Wild Irish Rover Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Am I the only rovers fan who wouldn't mind if Steve Coppel was linked with the job? All together now!! ......... I think we will do better than that
vintageadidas Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 RSC: Steve who? Get my agent on the phone! Agent: Hello SAF, Roque wants to join you now. We need someone who can keep the stars. I am not dounting Steve Coppell is a decent manager but keeping RSC is a must.
nicko Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Would i be correct in assuming the BFS's friends have been spreading lies, that we want him as manager....same probably could be applied to Shearer Allardyce has been lobbying for a couple of weeks. He tried to get himself linked in the papers to get a bandwagon going. Some fell for it, others preferred to wait to see what was really happening. Rovers were happy for him to stay in Qatar until today while they went through the process with Shearer and his camp. It is the same with Ten Cate who has been left on holiday until this becomes a real short-list and not just 'Shearer Plus the Rest.' I am well aware that Allardyce is shrewd and has let the club know he would come with a smaller staff - maybe only 31? - so he is desperate for it. I have to say that I don't blame anyone at the club for being misled by Shearer. But now the pressure is on them.
Bobby G Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Any chance of a Shearer u-turn a la Scolari from last week, or has his closed the casket on this with his TV appearance? Any chance of JW possibly going back in for him either?
promoted2001 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 All together now!! ......... I think we will do better than that Peter Reid?

Mc Love Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Rovers were happy for him to stay in Qatar until today Dont you mean a studio somewhere in London :D
EwoodGlory Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I think Coppell would be my first English choice, but Ten Cate and Laudrup head my list.
promoted2001 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Nicko can you please confirm that the board wont touch McClown with a 100Ft barge pole? Anyone but him and BFS, anyone else i'd be happy.
AggyBlue Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Any chance of a Shearer u-turn a la Scolari from last week, or has his closed the casket on this with his TV appearance? Any chance of JW possibly going back in for him either? Shut up. He's had his chance, feck him.

gumboots Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Well, I'm back again and I still don't want allardyce, but that's the only time I'll say it today. Promise!
Mc Love Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Gumboots what about Steve "Stan da man" Staunton, "the Gaffer"
broadsword Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Why does Allardyce need such a big staff? Is it because he himself is not much cop and needs a massive support network? So if he's promising not to bring so many staff with him to Rovers, won't he be less effective? Please please please, anyone but him.
gumboots Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 got to finish marking exam papers. too many other commitments to discuss the rovers job!
novella Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 based on the applicants, surely ten cate has to have the best cv now. If he doesnt get it then i might as well drop my cv in.

Eddie Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Why does Allardyce need such a big staff? Is it because he himself is not much cop and needs a massive support network? So if he's promising not to bring so many staff with him to Rovers, won't he be less effective? Please please please, anyone but him. Originally I was ok with the idea of Allardyce, I thought he'd be one of the best candidates to apply, but now that we have some idea of the list I really have to agree with you and say virtually ANYONE but him. Even McClaren I'd at least think got his team to play good football, there's really nothing to Allardyce apart from the fact that his team grinds out results. Now, I know I'm not a season ticket holder, but when I watch games I, first and foremost, want to be entertained. If we play great football but come away being beaten, it hurts but I come away fairly happy and the next day I'll feel pretty good. If we have to sit through 38 games of long-ball "get a win" stuff then every time we lose I'll wonder why we are doing it. Ten Cate Laudrup Lower League young guys depending on interviews McClaren (I'd include Bilic, but that one looks as if it has no chance of happening). That's my list.
AggyBlue Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 there's really nothing to Allardyce apart from the fact that his team grinds out results. What about all the diving, time wasting, crowding the ref and contesting every single decision. Who wants a team that plays with hatred etched on their faces, like notlob used to do. There's much more to BFS than the hoofball he likes to play.
Bobby G Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Forget about hoofball. I think for about 75% of the matches last season we played rubbish football... Im leaning towards McClaren more than Big Sam now... But I can see why the board would want Allardyce. He will keep the ship stable without spending much and we will continue being a top ten club until further notice...Gamble is minimal in terms of position in the table. But could cause fans to stop going for sure!
sussexrover Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I'm not even convinced that Allardyce will necessarily keep us in the top 10 (or even the Premiership itself). Whilst he did well on a small budget at Bolton, it was prior to the mid-table teams suddenly splashing ridiculous budgets about. If a few of those other teams suddenly hit upon the right formula then we could be enduring dull football yet still sliding down the table faster than you can say 'El-Hadji Diouf likes spitting'. I'm just not convinced he is the safe pair of hands he is portrayed as.
