Hopefully people won't mind if I do this, I have done mine.

SAY NO TO BIG SAM Campaign

Anyone who wishes for Big Sam NOT to be the next Blackburn manager, please send an envelope to.

John Williams

SAY NO TO BIG SAM

Blackburn Rovers FC

Ewood Park

Blackburn

They will get the hint eventually.

Even if it doesn't help, atleast I tried :(

My feeling is that rovers fans will be left a little underwhelmed by whoever the board chooses

Of the candidates even Fat Sam has his supporters amongst our fans so no appointment is going to please everybody. I'll be extremely happy with any of the supposed shortlist except 2 (guess which).

It WAS Shearer's job. If he said yes, it was his.

There was NO-ONE else talked to in the depth that he had been - all the others were basically left dangling and put off.

I'm not speculating as to whether or not he would have been given the job if he had been interested but he didn't actually say he was offered the job did he? Given the other applicants I would have been happy to appoint Shearer but he was never actually offered the job anyway, only asked if he'd like to be put on the shortlist along with other candidates being considered.

No, it was much more than that...check back and you will see.

Either that or accept the spin of someone who just had your drawers down...

Phew, we really dodged a bullet there. Problem is that really scares me that our board is that naive.

You might want to look at this quote from your chairman.

Note the use of the plural - and also the reference to advisers.

You would also spot that the talks have been going on for some time, not just a text and a decline.

You should also know that Shearer applied and not the other way round.

But if you want to think that it was just a polite chat and a 'no thanks' then that is entirely up to you.

This is the quote from LET.

Speaking exclusively to the Lancashire Telegraph, Williams added: "Following conversations with Alan and his advisers, he has decided he doesn't want to be considered for the position.

"He let me know his decision in a phone call yesterday afternoon and I'd just like to thank him for the professional manner in which he has conducted himself."

The board should not be criticised at all. Shearer - very much the ideal man - said he was interested. He encouraged them. Why should they think he was going to lead them on?

If you have a list of candidates and Candidate A [who was Shearer] says he is keen you would be some kind of idiot not to pursue it as far as you could and to the best of your ability.

Anyway, you missed out on someone who is obviously not cut out for management.

Move on.

I'm still unclear on, BBC aside, why he hasn't taken the job. The alternatives look far worse to me.

well either way, I hope BFS was never considered to be the alternative. On a side note, is Newell being considered? I'm not sure he's the right guy to manage us now but I remember him being fairly strongly linked to the job after Souness left and just wondered if he was in the running again.

Be afraid, be very afraid. Big Sam IS right in the frame here...Newell has no chance.

The 'wires' seem to be agreeing with one or two comments and snippets passed on here.

Someone came up with an interesting little theory (I can't even remember which thread it was on so sorry for not being able to credit to the original writer).

Shearer wouldn't mind taking over a "small" club provided they have a big kitty so that if he finds himself doing poorly by January he can buy his way out of it. At Blackburn, our finances wouldn't allow it and maybe being his first job he is a little apprehensive and he knows that if he took our post and failed (which for someone with no experience isn't unlikely considering how well Hughes did before him - big shoes to fill and all that) then it would near destroy his reputation as a manager and he would find very little work elsewhere.

Probably nonsense (but the only nonsense I've seen anyone come up with), afterall he does do an awful lot for the BBC doesn't he?! <_<

Nicko, I am not criticising the way the board conducted itself, more like I am criticisig them for wanting him in the first place.

On a lighter note...I wonder what the combined total of Scolari winnings was around here?

Not bothered nicko, but minus twenty quid - is it just me?

I thought I was following your advice on the Chelsea market and backed initially Hughes and then Ancelotti when I'm sure you stated it was a two horse race.

There is a real danger of SA being appointed our manager which will entail him bringing his own style. Expect BRFC to throw out some PR and spin the prospect, through their usual channels in order to persuade the fans. Andy ‘the puppet’ Nield will tow the party line with ‘it is understood from sources close etc...’

All this just adds to the disillusion of the current Premiership product served up to us supporters, which to be fair even last season with MH only had limited excitement with only two or three home matches whereby I felt genuinely entertained.

Should we accept the inevitable and survival at all costs? Or do we want more? Yet is that realistic for BRFC in the EPL?

Blimey this sounds negative, what chance BFS of coming in and surprising us with his total football?
