I agree but he is one of our main men, and he is younger, and I would say more potential.

£15m+ please.

Once a new boss comes in that one will come back into focus. I honestly don't believe that anyone will offer that dosh for him.

But it could yet be a crazy summer.

If i was interviewing for a business or rovers then one of the first things i would look at is experience. that would rule out anyone that hasnt had anything to do with premier league management. Next it would be what can you bring to the business, pulling power, past achievements etc. for me that leaves us with henk ten cate and sam allardyce and maybe at a push mcclaren. i think its between them three personally.

Most importantly for Blackburn, a player who is under contract is valued by the club he is currently at and it is upto to other clubs to match that valuation, otherwise the selling club won't sell. Bentley is under contract and if the rest of the world say he is only worth £10-12mil then I think he'll still be a Blackburn player when the summer transfer window shuts. It's hard to predict what can happen at the moment because clubs aren't chasing him up right now simply because they know we won't do any player negotiations until we have our manager in place. Maybe by next weekend we'll begin to see how much interest there really is in Bentley. I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised as I don't think more than one or two clubs will be making bids. Of those prepared to make bids I imagine he would only be tempted by 'pool or everton and possibly a reunion with sparky at citeh. I don't think he has yet caught the eye of any big European clubs (maybe a good thing England aren't in the Euro's).

Nicko,

it seems we have only talked to Shearer and Sam right now, so why is it that we havent even had a chat with Ince or Ten Caat if in fact they are on the shortlist? Does it mean if talks with Sam go well then he will get the job without having to talk to others...Or will we only talk to the others IF Sam isnt the man, as was the case with Shearer.

I'd favor Sam slightly, as he would probably stay a while and bring stability to the club, while Hank has a track record of not lasting long.

Christ, give me Ten Cate for 10 minutes rather than Allardyce for 10 years.

What is all this NONSENSE about "stability" being quoted all the time - Has everyone been in a coma for the past year??? REMEMBER NEWCASTLE.

What about all the diving, time wasting, crowding the ref and contesting every single decision. Who wants a team that plays with hatred etched on their faces, like notlob used to do.

There's much more to BFS than the hoofball he likes to play.

Fantastic post. The arrogance of this man is unbelievable.

How about this for a quote after leaving Newcastle:

"When you get sacked, reflection is a difficult scenario. The one thing you have tio evaluate first and foremost is how much of it was your fault,

I think you can accept it a lot more if you can come to terms with the fact that a good percentage of it was your fault - but that doesn't apply to me at Newcastle.

The usual rubbish that goes when someone like me is sacked from a club like Newcastle is that that job was too big for me. That's just not true.

If I'm honest the reverse is probably true. Newcastle probably wasn't big enough for me - it didn't live up to my ambitions in the short time that I was there. And because it didn't do that the club missed a chance to realise its own ambitions."

Cheers for the updated list of possible candidates Nicko. My order of preference:

LAUDRUP, BILIC - Ironically the "non-runners" would be my preferred choices by a significant margin.

TEN CATE - Stand-out candidate amongst the interested parties, but I fear the board won't be bold enough to dare to dream.

COPPELL - Of everyone else, he's the only one I'd be remotely satisfied with. Well-respected in the game, good football, already has good players.

INCE - At least he tries to play football the right way, but it's too soon. We're vying with LEICESTER for his services for God's sake.

MARTINEZ - No. What kind of "aura" would he bring to the dressing room?? Both he and Ince are managing at too low a level.

IRVINE - Too green at the moment, a few years down the line would have made an interesting appointment.

PEARCE - Can't think why he'd be considered by the board.

BOOTHROYD - Surely has no chance. Avoid

MCCLAREN - I wouldn't have thought it possible to want anyone LESS than McClaren for this post. But...

ALLARDYCE - It just can't be this catastrophe. I've said it before and will say it again - Fans will stay away, we'd play the worst football in Europe, be a laughing stock because of it, plunge towards relegation.. It would be the beginning of the end of Blackburn Rovers as a Premier League side. I'm not exagerrating with any of this - Mark my words.

SAY NO TO BFFS. (You can guess what the extra 'F' is for.)

Roberto Martinez has emerged as a shock contender for the vacant managers job at Blackburn Rovers. (Daily Star)

Found this on the BBC gossip page - not that I pay attention to the daily star - wondering if is worth you checking out

Yup, about three days ago...and he is the name on a few important lips.

Slowly warming to the idea of this Martinez fella. I am certain I would rather give him a shot over Wrigley's number one benefactor, Mr BFS.

Read a few things about him and for most of his footballing career he seems to have been quite a student of the game, may, just may, be a good appointment.

I agree he might just be worth a gamble.

Would he command the respect of players like Bentley & RSC though? Thats my main reservation with him.

It was really only Shearer until less than 24 hours ago...the Sam 'talking' was coming mostly from him.

There has been contact from and back to Ten Cate. Ince is still waiting but possibly unlikely. I think Martinez will have been contacted but nobody is going to admit that one...

As much as I want HTC, I have a very horrible feeling that BFS's interview will swing it for him

I can't believe they would just give the job to Sam after an interview. They must - and surely will - talk to other people.

This is a good opportunity.

I wasn't meaning straight away, this afternoon...

Although you do know the process much better than me.

Like I said yesterday - Shearer dithering, meant that thier No1 target had gone, so the next move, seeing that none of the other applicants was first choice, must surely be to talk to all of them.

It will take a day or two more, but that's not critical. Getting the right man is critical.

No, agreed, I think they have a chance to take a bit more time and be sure. Some people they want to talk to won't be around for a few days, so by all means a cram a few others in.

If you get the right man this is a process you won't have to do for another four years or so.

Sam talks a good game, but so do many others.

Of all the realistic domestic managers we have been linked to who would your choice be? I have to say Coppel would be my number 1 in Britain.

I do like Coppell, but you would have to look in his eys and see if there is still any fire in there. If he was keen, then I would consider him. I think he is a good man.

I still remember the sheer enthusiasm of his team at your place on the last day a year ago in one of the best games I have seen for some time.
