[Archived] Nicko's Thread Part 3

Recommended Posts

Gumboots, - JW and the board must go along with the man they think is right for the club, at this moment in time. They will speak to the candidates and only they can get any real feel as to the hunger of any of them. I suspect "hunger" is what they will be looking for.

At the end of all this, it's JW and the board who will have to sort things out if the new manager doesn't work out.

It would be rude not to talk to him...

But do you think the board actually will though Nicko?

It seems they were all set to offer the job to Shearer without talking to other people (had we accepted his demands) now suddenly that isn't happening. Won't the board be tempted to get someone in? (I dread to think of Allardyce as their second-choice, but for all we know he could be.) If Allardyce talks a good game in his interview, is there DEFINITELY NO RISK that he will be appointed before other interviews take place? If there's any danger of this happening, we really need to arrange some picketing.

How many candidates were interviewed before Hughes got the job last time round?

nicko do you know know if Advacaat has been mentioned, i think he would do a very good job for us.

I don't think he has been considered. But, like I said before, this is a changing scene if they don't like who they meet in the next few days.

so if JW and the board appointed [Allardyce], I think they'd have a real job on their hands to persuade the fans he was the best choice in the circumstances

I think there is a risk we are exaggerating the circumstances. Bilic and Laudrup seem to have a lot of support according to polls on here but neither has expressed any interested in the job and I do not think they are candidates. We may have had over 40 applicants but it seems clear that the board and JW have thrown a lot of those out the window. If Allardyce gets the job I will accept immediately that he is the best man available - he must have been or JW wouldn't give him the job. I will however have to presume I had no understanding of the true circumstances we are in or who the other candidates were (because at this point I cannot understand how Allardyce could be the man for us). We lost a great manager and whoever comes in next will not at first be a good enough replacement so I think it's important that we trust JW and give the new guy as much time until he either delivers or JW decides he made a mistake and sacks him.

I can't understand why the board will not be happy with Shearer continuing his BBC commitments, Hughes is quite often on the box, especially for champions league matches.

If that is the reason then its quite utter stupid by the board. I think the board are going to appoint BFS, which if they do will see me and and my follow 10 mates who attend Rovers not renewing there season ticktes

Speak for em all can you gazz? You must be leader of the gang down in your local kindergarten.

There is this love-in with Bilic just now but I recall that his cheating cost a good pro - Laurent Blanc - a place in a World Cup final in 1998. He pretended to be caught by an elbow. It always sticks in my mind.

Yep. Croatia aren't a very popular team in France at the moment as a result of it. His playing career was filled with things to make you like him less, since going into coaching he's obviously started to come across as more likeable, but he remains a big risk. Had Croatia knocked France, Italy or Holland out rather than England very few would know who we was (or at least, very few would remember him from his playing days in the Premiership and make the connection to the Croatian job).

The board will only PROBABLY talk to others after Allardyce?!?!?

I am officially crapping myself - This is LUDICROUS. Sam F'ing Allardyce is going to be our next manager and we're expected just to stand here and take it like IDIOTS.

I can't take this.

You mention four or five other candidates were "seriously in the picture" when Hughes was hired Nicko - Were they actually interviewed?

Croatia is his track record.

Unlike Hughes Billic got his nation to a major championship and do you not remember Wembley. Croatia were through no problem but beat a team full of stars in their own backyard, just because they could.

with that pedigree we should appoint him Chief Executive & PM too. the man is clearly the son of God.

From what Nicko says though (and I accept that he obviously doesn't know everything) there are a number of separate agendas here and i do worry that the person who just looks best on paper or on Powerpoint might just get the job without their necessarily being the best available. If you can't do the technical things it's very easy to be blinded by them and not ask the questions that ought to be asked. I'm not suggesting JW falls into that category but since we don't know again exactly how much input each board member has, and who will go along with whom I think we have every right to be nervous.

Choosing the Pope isn't this complicated.

When you see the smoke over Ewood give me a shout !

His holiness Pope Henk I

Yeah was just going to say, 189 users active in the last 15 mins.

All waiting for the puff of white smoke over Ewood ...................................indicating Allardyce has got the job.

I think the board are going to appoint BFS, which if they do will see me and and my follow 10 mates who attend Rovers not renewing there season ticktes

Grow up! JW and the board are going to appoint the man who they think is best for the club out of all the people they can pick from (which does NOT include Bilic no matter how many times people say he'd be good for us - he clearly isn't interested!). So start supporting the club! I bet you thought Douglas was crap when Souness kept picking him - did you stop attending games and withdraw your support from the other ten players? I'm sure you don't rate Mokoena so highly either but you implied that you attended matches regularly last season thus not withdrawing your support as a result of thinking one guy isn't right for the club. Besides the new manager, which may well be BFS, there will be eleven rovers players starting every game and another seven hoping they can make an impact so please don't act like a spoilt brat and show them all your support. And IF we find ourselves enjoying another good start to the season maybe you can eat your words and start supporting the manager too, whoever it is.

when i go out to socialise with my friends we tend to talk about things, and at the weekend we were talking what we would do if Big Sam took over at Rovers and we all had the same reaction. I think you are you are jealous because you are a very lonley sad old man!!!!

I'd give Ince a try, it'll be a struggle first season, but I expect that the squad will be strong enough to cope.

Good grief! Stupidest post of the year award already lined up for you Flopsy. Who the flerk wants to appoint somebody that will see us struggle all season?

It may heppen but lets not beg for it. A struggling team will see the best of the squad looking to leave! Thank God you aren't involved in the selection process.

yeah, and look at how Keane and Southgate have done, not great but improved towards the end. Getting Allardyce or McLaren will be a disaster, Ince might well not be the answer but he's better than those two.

Anyway I've still got a long way to go before my posts are nearly as stupid as the majority of yours.

Your comparisons with Douglas and Mokoena hold no water whatsoever. None. Zero. This is about a management regime. A footballing ethos.

Sam Allardyce would DRIVE ROVERS INTO THE DUST. He is a horrific, arrogant [insert expletive here] with a history of hideous tactics, bad transfer expenditure, corruption, inability to cope with crises, and failure. (REMEMBER NEWCASTLE.)

THE FUTURE OF THE CLUB IS AT STAKE HERE. If boycotting Ewood under an Allardyce-reign is the most effective course of action (which it is), then that's damned sure what my mates and I will be doing.

With the way we were playing towards the end of the season, the transition to BFS at helm (if it happens) and his style of play would be seemless anyway. :P But no matter who's in charge I'll still support the Rovers.
