gbax Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Faith Terim is a brilliant coach. Has alot of experience and I would love it if he became our coach...Im sure Tugay could be able to put a word forward. His loved and admired by every player he has ever managed including big names at Milan and Fiorentina. He sounds a good candidate! You should ask a few others on here and start a FaceBook petition to get him instated, as this is the future for getting things done. I'm looking forward to helping pick the team for the first game of the season :-)

gbax Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I don't know any such thing deep down, BFS is not the man(+ 30 assistants) for us! Crap football, allegedly bent and failed his last assignment, why should we rehabilitate him? Mark Hughes failed his last assignment before joining Rovers!
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I find the Fatih Terim thing impossible to believe because of his age and lack of English...he left Turkey and flopped too. Superb for his country and top clubs in Turkey but not for Blackburn. There could be twists as time throws up other names, but I think we have named the names here. Interview stage - Allardyce and Ten Cate deffo, Ince, McClaren and Martinez probably, Boothroyd maybe. Others possibly on radar - but not been picked up by me or anyone else yet. Very interested about the Mike Newell 'post' - the Shearer plan had really gathered a lot of pace behind the scenes.

tony gale's mic Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 nicko sorry if you've already told us, but this thread is so long and its hard to check back.. What was the exact reasons why Shearer wouldnt join? I remember you saying you'd reveal all yesterday. Very relieved he didnt join BTW, was dead against the idea from the start...
Bobby G Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Faith Terim was not a flop in Fiorentina or Milan...He left Fiorentina for Milan, where he played open attacking football, something that Milan team hadnt done in years, but was replaced by Silvio's favorite son, Carletto... He might not have trophies to show for it, but he was successful "enough" at the time to not be considered a failure.
Gav Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 He is NOT Liverpool's priority - that list is headed by Valencia and Bentley - both too expensive at the moment. Liverpool Echo said last week that Rafa isn't interested in Bentley at all and they ususally have the finger on the pulse. But you can't trust these bloody journalists!

I remember you saying you'd reveal all yesterday. Very relieved he didnt join BTW, was dead against the idea from the start... Wanted to stick with BBC and wanted merchandising cuts and the lot, besides other things which Nicko hasnt mentioned because I dont think those two reasons could suffice for him saying we dodged a "bullet".
gbax Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Liking the "Ten Cate - deffo " !! Yes,me to, but not the Brolly Mclown, I would rather have BFS. Vote YES for Ten Cate!!!

laughatthedingles Posted June 13, 2008 Author Posted June 13, 2008 Just been at Ewood, no sign of BFS yet, damn, wanted to give him what for!
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Liverpool Echo said last week that Rafa isn't interested in Bentley at all and they ususally have the finger on the pulse. But you can't trust these bloody journalists! Liverpool did make an inquiry and were prepared to pay £12 m. It wasn't my story, but it was right.
yoda Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Mark Hughes failed his last assignment before joining Rovers! How so? and besides we were in a different position then
gazsimm Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just been at Ewood, no sign of BFS yet, damn, wanted to give him what for! i doubt the interview will be at ewood it will be probably in a good restaurant were big fat sam can have one of his finest steaks.
gbax Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 How so? and besides we were in a different position then He failed to get Wales to the finals. That was his brief. He didn't do it. He failed. Didn't stop him from being a success at Rovers thou! Vote YES for Ten Cate!
Blue n White Rover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Liverpool did make an inquiry and were prepared to pay £12 m. It wasn't my story, but it was right. If Liverpool don't want Bentley then I don't see any other club he would want to go to. He wants Champions League football and United (Ronaldo), Arsenal (Won't take him back) and Chelsea (No chance with Big Phil) wont buy him and Liverpool aren't prepared to cough up the amount we want. Hope he does stay put as all other players have found out. Grass aint always greener on the other side!

I remember you saying you'd reveal all yesterday. Very relieved he didnt join BTW, was dead against the idea from the start... During the talks it became obvious that Shearer and his advisers wanted too many clauses and demands - all different kinds - and they put a few backs up. I'm not sure of the specifics, but the areas that caused problems included his media work, possible merchandising deals and the inevitable compensation issues if someone else came on for him. Funny, because it reminded me of when he was a player and spoke to both Blackburn and Man U when he was leaving Southampton. At the time I was close to Fergie - now that WAS a long time ago - and by chance spoke to him minutes after Shearer said 'no.' He was raging and ripped into him, saying his '****ing agent' just wanted to talk about clauses and his NEXT move. Sir Furious didn't like that at all. Shearer has changed agents since, but he is apparently still the same animal.

Vote YES for Ten Cate! He did not fail at wales, he got them playing the best football the people of wales have seen for many years and was very lucky not to qualify to the finals. If Rovers had not come in for Hughes, he will still be the manager of wales now i reckon

Shearer has changed agents since, but he is apparently still the same animal. The last bit is very odd as his next move after Rovers could hardly be described as a career move. Oh well, very relieved, but questioning the judgement of the board that they'd appoint him without even speaking to the other candidates. Is Ince not a candidate?
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Faith Terim was not a flop in Fiorentina or Milan...He left Fiorentina for Milan, where he played open attacking football, something that Milan team hadnt done in years, but was replaced by Silvio's favorite son, Carletto... He might not have trophies to show for it, but he was successful "enough" at the time to not be considered a failure. I've got nothing against Terim, I like his football and he seems like a character. But he walked out on Fiorentina in a strop and was having a 'mare at Milan when he quit there too. OK, it is far less political at Blackburn - but it just makes you wonder when he only lasts a few months. No doubt someone will say the same of Henk Ten Cate...and that is one area Rovers must establish when they speak to him.
Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 It wasn't a career move in terms of medals, but I'm sure it certainly was in terms of finances. Can you think how much money he could have made had he managed to negotiate a clause regarding merchandising or something like that?
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Is Ince not a candidate? He is being considered, but I'm not sure he will definitely get an interview - even an 'unofficial' one - and I am even less sure that he has boardroom support. There ARE better candidates in my opinion.
Blue n White Rover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Any idea when Henk will get interviewed?
gbax Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 He did not fail at wales, he got them playing the best football the people of wales have seen for many years and was very lucky not to qualify to the finals. If Rovers had not come in for Hughes, he will still be the manager of wales now i reckon I agree he did fantastic as Wales boss, but he DID fail his brief, he even said as so when I spoke to him at last year Players Awards. His goal and the welsh FAs brief was to qualify. They did well but missed out. He was very disappointed and said he'd done the best he could with the players he had to hand. Similar to how far he could take Rovers. All I was trying to say, whether it's BFS or someone else, is that just cause they might have failed yestertday, doesen't mean they will tomorrow.
