Heinz Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Cate's gone. Seriously, why else would Panathinaikos present him on their homepage. He's gone.

dellinsert Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 The FC Panathinaikos announces the launch of its cooperation with the Dutch coach, Chenk ten Kate. Mr. ten Kate signed contract 2 years and will go to Greece in late June, before the start of preparation, and we made a formal presentation. In his first statement as coach of Panathinaikos, Mr. Chenk ten Kate pointed out: "I am delighted to undertake as Panathinaikos coach. I used to work at the highest possible level of competition and this is one of the reasons why I think this new step in my career as a great challenge. The organisation, history and ambition of Panathinaikos, but also the general attitude of people towards the football is proportional to the larger football clubs in Europe and that is why I believe we will achieve our objectives. I look forward to come to Athens to meet players from around me. " Google translation...
Bobby G Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 If so then what a disappointing and less than inspiring next manager we are to have if he will be one of the people already on the short-list...

b12_simon Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Foxes thwarted in bid for Ince - Is he waiting for a call? Between the lines, Mandaric's comments sound like he's expecting Ince to go elsewhere (i.e. Ewood) and has the hump about it.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 If its 100% true this is turning out into a right nightmare.
alexanders Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Henk Ten Cate has NOT signed with Panathinaikos. He is in Barbados and returns this weekend. There may be an agent trying to push him to Greece, but the man himself wants to talk to Rovers. The what the (Please don't use that word again) is Phanathinaikos doing? robborover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Or it could mean we fancy a different manager? There's a lot of fabrication around at the moment. No point worrying as we know Williams will stay quiet until it's signed and sealed.
joey_big_nose Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I don't understand. Surely it can't be on the official webpage if it hasn't been confirmed?
Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 You can't just out and appoint a manager without a due process of selection. You have to go about it the right way. If he's gone to Panathaniakos, maybe he wasn't that up for managing us. Having said that, I'm incredibly disappointed. At the same time, we should have been: 1) acting faster. 2) making our interest appear serious enough so that our candidates wouldn't go elsewhere.

gumboots Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 If it turns out to be true, then ours wasn't the job for him. You couldn't blame him if the Greeks have got CL football and he's not at the top end of our short list.

Esulx Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I know it's not April Fools Day but it is Friday 13th... ...anyone think that a bit of stirring up might be happening here.
b12_simon Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 At the same time, we should have been: 1) acting faster. 2) making our interest appear serious enough so that our candidates wouldn't go elsewhere. How do you know we're not doing that? When does our club ever use the press to signal anythign that's not 100% set-in-stone? JW is a very discrete chairman and would indicate his interest in a potential manager by speaking with him, not by running to the press. You don't half talk out of your jacksy sometimes!
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Ten Cate had an approach from Panathinaikos over a week ago and has a two-year deal on offer. He applied for the Rovers job AFTER that contract was offered to him. He went to Barbados on holiday and has set up a meeting with Rovers for when he returns. He wants to talk to the club and is willing to be a candidate. Panathinaikos are desperate for him to sign, so hearing of Rovers interest is forcing them to act. This is NOT the first time that it has been reported he has signed. He hasn't...I know a very good reason why he hasn't...so leave it at that.
Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I can only go base it on end results. Personally I feel we should basically already had a manager at this point, if not we should have at least conducted serious interviews with everyone on the shortlist and be close to making our decision. As it stands it seems that over the past two weeks we got somewhere with Shearer, but apart from that we've managed to simply draw up a short-list, a short-list that is made up entirely of names that were instantly on any betting websites list. Not really much of an achievement.
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Question - What would be the smart thing for Panathinaikos to do right now to put everyone off the scent? Answer - Say they have got him.

Whats the "very good" reason Nicko?

Surely sticking a story up on their website that he has signed when he hasn't isn't going to increase the chances of him attaching himself to the club? Bizarre.
