Ten Cate had an approach from Panathinaikos over a week ago and has a two-year deal on offer.

He applied for the Rovers job AFTER that contract was offered to him.

He went to Barbados on holiday and has set up a meeting with Rovers for when he returns. He wants to talk to the club and is willing to be a candidate.

Panathinaikos are desperate for him to sign, so hearing of Rovers interest is forcing them to act.

This is NOT the first time that it has been reported he has signed.

He hasn't...I know a very good reason why he hasn't...so leave it at that.

I hope your right Nicko. I'm sure it isn't the first time a club has annouced a new manager and it has ended up as being untrue. But more often than not if its on their official website its hard to question it.

I can only go base it on end results. Personally I feel we should basically already had a manager at this point, if not we should have at least conducted serious interviews with everyone on the shortlist and be close to making our decision. As it stands it seems that over the past two weeks we got somewhere with Shearer, but apart from that we've managed to simply draw up a short-list, a short-list that is made up entirely of names that were instantly on any betting websites list. Not really much of an achievement.

I sort of agree with you. It is suprising that we have not interviewed more candidates by now. And I am amazed that Shearer was offered the job so readily. What the hell was the thinking there? He couldn't even have had a face to face interview as he is in Austria/Switzerland.

On the mitigating side a lot of people are on holiday at the moment and it is impossible to appraoch managers in contract talks without a formal process so it does take a while.

3 of our main targets are unemployed (McClaren, Ten Cate, Allardyce) as well as a few others who are more on the fringes. Now we live in a time of mobile phones, video feeds, web cams, emails, you name it and you are you are telling me that we can't conduct some form of an interview until people are back? I understand that you'd want to meet someone face-to-face before you appoint them, but you could at least seriously sound them out before that point. The in person interview could simply be the final stage.

Sunday?

Not even 10pm tonight?

Have some sympathy for us Nicko!

Sunday, b***** Sunday. It is a vital piece of the jigsaw and interesting too.

If you remember Panathinaikos were bragging they had Michael Laudrup signed up a few weeks ago...what happened to that one?

It is far better to meet them face-to-face and go through all of the questions both sides want and need to ask.

This is also a holiday period and the Euro 2008 finals, so football people are scattered all over the globe.

Relax. This is still being run properly.

There aren't any end results and won't be til a manager is announced. Your rant is based on a half-assed story on a Greek website that looks like it'll turn out to be a load of kronk!

The Euros mean the transfer market (including managerial transfers) is slow and there's a possbibility that some of JW's targets are managing national sides right now. The very least I'd expect of a future Rovers manager is that they'd have the courtesy and professioanlism to stay focussed on an important tournament rather than having job interviews in other countries.

If we appoint some doughnut at the end of all this, have a rant then by all means. I'll probably join in. In the mean time, don't spit your dummy out just because it's taking longer than you'd like!

This is all going on in the background. Just cos you're not reading about it on the Daily Star web site doesn't mean JW's just sat there yanking his crank!

Pure theatre.

I'm worried that I'm starting to enjoy all of this football drama!

Next episode: MI6 scupper Scolari's move to Chelsea as was being blackmailed by the Russian government, and he reveals he really wants the Rovers job!!

Spot on Niko. Not much is happening at the moment on the transfer front either and pre-season is still a couple of weeks away. Williams also has a week to meet his deadline.

Laudrup has gone quiet on all fronts (not just Rovers).

Just a thought on this Panathinaikos statement.

It's come out in the last hour...which is/was the early hours of the morning in Barbados where Ten Cate is.

Before Ten Cate went to bed he had just sorted out his Blackburn Rovers arrangements.

So he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night and said 'yes' to Panathinaikos?

What do you think?

I would have thought with the money City have Annan wouldn't feature as a target as they could look for more established players.

But then if they are looking to blow their wedge on Ronaldinho - a player I can't imagine Hughes would go for of his own volition - maybe it will conitnue to be bargain basement for the rest of the team?....
