RibbleValleyRover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I would have thought with the money City have Annan wouldn't feature as a target as they could look for more established players. But then if they are looking to blow their wedge on Ronaldinho - a player I can't imagine Hughes would go for of his own volition - maybe it will conitnue to be bargain basement for the rest of the team?.... Its making me laugh that Hughes is being linked to a lot of our players even though i would have thought with the money he has to spend at City he could buy better players. Doesn't anyone else find it odd that he left because he wanted more money to buy better players and yet if media reports are true he wants to buy ours.

I just think that it shows the he got quality for low cash when he was here. He knows how they perform and there is no risk that they will turm out to be a flop.
socngill Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 by all accounts City do not have that much money to spend on players. The media have blown there transfer funds way out of proportion. Plus if they buy Ronald McDonald and Jo he will have very little money left to improve the rest of the squad. What a shame

What a shame with those 2 in the team, he wont have to do much else to challenge for 4th / 5th
Torgeir Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 His managerial performance to date would suggest a great deal of maturity. Hence what I wrote in my original post: "I hope someone confronts him with the comments he made about us a few years back. What a phoney... Live and learn though, maybe two years of management has taught him the 'arte et labore'."
rebelmswar Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 http://www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadlines/Sh...over.4182877.jp Shearer to manage the owls?!?! Is this as much crap as the website appears?

Plus if they buy Ronald McDonald and Jo he will have very little money left to improve the rest of the squad. What a shame It depends I think on whether Frank gets his assets unfrozen. To be honest city have got a pretty decent team as it is with a lot of good young players. Not sure they need a raft of changes. Buying Ronaldinho seems like lunacy to me, he isn't a one man goal machine like Anelka who can slip into any side and beat teams on his own. He needs the right players around him to create space for him. Also he has an ego. And city already have a guy in his role in Elano. And finally enormous wages for him are going to disgruntle other players (primarily thinking Dunne, Richards, Bojinov, Petrov) if they out perform the Brazillian week in week out. Daft.
The Prof. Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Slaven Bilic needs to get finished with the Euro's before he is ready to take over Blackburn. Agreed - anyone who likes beating the Germans (and can) is OK by me. (Might be over there a bit longer than I can bear though)! It's a Rovers type team, no real superstars, works hard but is exceptionally organised. Just realised - somewhere in this thread said Newell and Shearer were drawing up transfer targets bu this wasn't the reason SHearer withdrew - sounds very promising.
Exiled_Rover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 with those 2 in the team, he wont have to do much else to challenge for 4th / 5th Have you seen the shape Ronald McDonald's in?
Iceman Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Ten Cate had an approach from Panathinaikos over a week ago and has a two-year deal on offer. He applied for the Rovers job AFTER that contract was offered to him. He went to Barbados on holiday and has set up a meeting with Rovers for when he returns. He wants to talk to the club and is willing to be a candidate. Panathinaikos are desperate for him to sign, so hearing of Rovers interest is forcing them to act. This is NOT the first time that it has been reported he has signed. He hasn't...I know a very good reason why he hasn't...so leave it at that. Don’t you think Nicko, that is just plain daft on the part of Panathinaikos?Surely,if that whole translation is correct, and Ten Cate said he is happy to have signed up,then what else is there to suggest that Ten Cate hasn’t signed? If the Greeks just posted that on their official website, for the sake of clutching at straws, and hoping then they could find themselves in got water, for making up things.
Jan Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Was telephoned today and asked if I wanted to renew my parking space. I said I'd hold off until we knew who the be manager was as if it was BFS I wasn't sure how often I'd be up. She sounded quite depressed and said I was by no means the only person saying this. I suggested she spoke to John Williams and she said the message was already getting through. Hopefully she's telling the truth and BFS will fall further down the pecking order.
Blackburn Ender Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 It could come down to who wants the job the most. I don't see Ten Cate as a serious possibility. His recent record suggests he like being in and around big European clubs and he doesn't stay anywhere for very long. There's a saying in business that crap people leave after 18 months, as that's how long it takes for them to be found out. The England-based candidates, currently looking for work, might well be the ones who want it most. As someone else has said, perhaps we should want the man who most wants to be Rovers manager?

It's possibly just a case of they can get away with it. While an English club would get a right slapping for pulling a stunt like that, in other leagues, who knows?
2PAC 4 Blackburn Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just a thought on this Panathinaikos statement. It's come out in the last hour...which is/was the early hours of the morning in Barbados where Ten Cate is. Before Ten Cate went to bed he had just sorted out his Blackburn Rovers arrangements. So he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night and said 'yes' to Panathinaikos? What do you think? I think it's true, they have posted on their official homepage that he's signed a 2yr deal. I quote... Panathinaikos announces the hiring of the Dutch Henk ten Cate as Head Coach. Mr. ten Cate signed a 2 year contract and he will arrive in Greece at the end of June for his official presentation from the club. At his first statement as Panathinaikos Head Coach, mr ten Cate said: «I’ m delighted to have reached an agreement with Panathinaikos FC. In my career I have been used to working at the highest level of competition and that’s one of the reasons why I consider this new step to be a great challenge. Panathinaikos’ organization, history, ambition and attitude towards football in general match those of the greatest football clubs in Europe, so I’ m confident that we will achieve our goals. I’ m looking forward to coming to Athens and meeting my players
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just seen Ten Cate's wikipedia entry...very amusing. Congratulations to that man.
Manchester Blue Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Nicko rarely admits that he's wrong.... And you do?
j166429 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just seen Ten Cate's wikipedia entry...very amusing. Congratulations to that man. Just seen it too. Like the bit about having a very long pen...!!!!

Blackburn Ender Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Jeez, and people seriously use this website to check their facts! Hugely worrying.
ebenrocks Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 bloody hell. This has all got very worrying now. Ten Cate has gone to Panathanaikos . I was hoping we'd get him
brian_gallagher85 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I did the Bulgarian one - not guilty this time Was thinking it was yourself ...don't have any inside info this time round?
