nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Sky Sports News are reporting Reuters who are reporting the Panathinaikos website which is [probably] a quote from an agent who wants him to go there to get his commission. Meanwhile Henk is having his first cold one in a poolside bar in Barbados. There is a very good reason why he CAN'T have signed for anyone...which will become apparent on Sunday [hopefully].

So you are saying that he didn't say........... i'm delighted to have reached an agreement with Panathinaikos FC. In my career I have been used to working at the highest level of competition and that’s one of the reasons why I consider this new step to be a great challenge. Panathinaikos’ organization, history, ambition and attitude towards football in general match those of the greatest football clubs in Europe, so I’ m confident that we will achieve our goals. I’ m looking forward to coming to Athens and meeting my players

Pre contract for us? Very well handled Rovers Or Post Contract clearance from Chelsea? Or he's lost both hands in a boat accident on the beach?
alexanders Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 There is a very good reason why he CAN'T have signed for anyone...which will become apparent on Sunday [hopefully]. He doesn't have a pen?
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 So you are saying that he didn't say........... I don't believe the quote is his. When did he say it? The middle of the night in Barbados? Or last night while he was sorting out his interview with Blackburn Rovers? There's no doubt the Greeks want him - that was the case about ten days ago the last time he 'signed' for them. You have to remember that there are large sums of money in commissions and one of his agents may want him to go to Greece where he is guaranteed a payment. Right now Ten Cate is ONLY a candidate at Rovers. There is NO job offer. So the Mr 10 Per Cents are getting a bit sweaty. My info is that Ten Cate wants to talk to Rovers and that hasn't changed.
Mc Love Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Ten Cate had an approach from Panathinaikos over a week ago and has a two-year deal on offer. He applied for the Rovers job AFTER that contract was offered to him. He went to Barbados on holiday and has set up a meeting with Rovers for when he returns. He wants to talk to the club and is willing to be a candidate. Panathinaikos are desperate for him to sign, so hearing of Rovers interest is forcing them to act. This is NOT the first time that it has been reported he has signed. He hasn't...I know a very good reason why he hasn't...so leave it at that. You took a few mins to reply there, although just reading through it now, i nearly had a fooking heart attack

Fair play. Just find it crazy that they would publish such a statement on their official homepage if it wasn't true.
ebenrocks Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Is that tongue in cheek, ebenrocks, or haven't you read the last 20 or so posts? haha, nope, im just an idiot. I was watching SSN and heard he'd been announced so i replied. Apologies!
tony gale's mic Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 All of this is pushing out ten Cate's odds further on betfair... He's 33/1 on Ladbrokes'... I know you say not to bet on anything on this market, and we understand that he's only a candidate, but worth a flutter do you think?
Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 OK, so there is a reason he can't of signed anyone... Was there a clause in his Chelsea contract that prevented him from signing for another team for a certain period of time after its termination?
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Fair play. Just find it crazy that they would publish such a statement on their official homepage if it wasn't true. Panathinaikos must have been told that he is coming/signing by the guys doing that deal. I presume they are under pressure to deliver over 10 days since he 'agreed' to join them.
PAFELL Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just a thought on this Panathinaikos statement. It's come out in the last hour...which is/was the early hours of the morning in Barbados where Ten Cate is. Before Ten Cate went to bed he had just sorted out his Blackburn Rovers arrangements. So he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night and said 'yes' to Panathinaikos? What do you think? He had a nightmare and saw BFS in his dream outside of ewood park

Some questions for you Nicko: - 10 days ago, when Ten Cate was supposedly "signed" for the first time by the Greeks, was this also announced on the club's official web-site? If so, did the announcement include quotes from Ten Cate himself? - Is it common practice in Greece (or anywhere else in Europe) for a club to make a formal statement on their official web-site about a new manger, incluing quotes from said manager, only to withdraw it again later as the information was wrong? - Do you think the Rovers should emply a manager who has managed to get himself mixed up in such a mess? - Is it possible that your information regarding Ten Cate is just plain wrong?

LeftWinger Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just had a tenner of Ten Cate at 33/1 with Ladbrokes - couldn't resist.

If so, did the announcement include quotes from Ten Cate himself? THE STORY WAS BROKEN ON DE TELEGRAAF. - Is it common practice in Greece (or anywhere else in Europe) for a club to make a formal statement on their official web-site about a new manger, incluing quotes from said manager, only to withdraw it again later as the information was wrong? DON'T KNOW, YOU ARE THE EXPERT. SVEN SPRINGS TO MIND, MANY MORE BESIDES. MAN U SAID THEY WERE SIGNING RAMSEY JUST LAST WEEK. - Do you think the Rovers should emply a manager who has managed to get himself mixed up in such a mess? IT'S NOT A MESS, TWO CLUBS WANT TO [A] GIVE HIM A JOB AND TALK TO HIM - Is it possible that your information regarding Ten Cate is just plain wrong? NO. I SUPPOSE ALL THE OTHER PAPERS CARRYING THE ROVERS INTEREST IN TEN CATE ARE/WERE WRONG TOO.
alexanders Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 But Nikco, that wasn't on the official page. I have a heard time understanding that the Greeks can put up stuff like that on their page without it being true.
Cocker Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just had a tenner of Ten Cate at 33/1 with Ladbrokes - couldn't resist. Those are some good odds. He is 10/1 at WillHill
ebenrocks Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 But Nikco, that wasn't on the official page. I have a heard time understanding that the Greeks can put up stuff like that on their page without it being true. Never trust a Greek bearing gifts. History is telling us they're lying... HISTORY
Heinz Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Dutch media are diving heavily into the Panathinaikos official statement both the Telegraaf (again) and VoetbalZone are having it as their headline at the moment. Surely this is based on what Panathinaikos published but can Ten Cate back out on this... I don't know.. Barbados sure looks a lot like Kreta or Zakinthos
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 For the conspiracy theorists, a taste of Ten Cate in the papers over the past few days. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/ju...n.premierleague http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...rk-hotseat.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtm...3/sfnbla113.xml Got to confess, we're all bang at it...get a grip!
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 But Nikco, that wasn't on the official page. I have a heard time understanding that the Greeks can put up stuff like that on their page without it being true. There has been many examples of an official site getting it wrong. Whether thats down to the arrogance of the club thinking the deal is all but guaranteed, the left hand not telling the right hand what is going on, or miscommunication down the line. Look at Spurs saying they signed Bostock on their official site, which has proven to be premature. Or the Ramsay transfer to United.

I have seen agents pull stunts like this before and just lie to push things along or get themselves off the hook. I suspect that is what this is about.
PAFELL Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Just seen Ten Cate's wikipedia entry...very amusing. Congratulations to that man. Putting aside all speculation and hope etc - But if Henk Ten Cate does become Rovers manager, why do you think he would be a good appointment for Rovers? What could he bring to Rovers? What is good about him compared to other possible candidates for the job? If you had to write a profile for and against potential managers such as Henk Ten Cate Laudrop Billic Maybe this should be asked by others on this board why they prefer particular candidates over others. As it is very easy saying we want this or that person - but not saying why. Though the why we don't want BFS has been said over and over. Just a thought fpr you Nicko and others who may care to answer, who are maybe interested in a sensible debate.
