Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 did you watch rovers play under hughes? it was not much better, but apparently he is God. why not try sam? Exactly - we witnessed the long ball game for most of last sesason under Hughes and it was tedious as hell. Why on earth would you want to take on a bonafide long ball merchant?

Hi Mack Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I'll be extremely relieved if reports linking HTC with Panathanikos are true. His appointment would be a disaster waiting to happen in my book. Re: the poster who says he met one of the players in Clitheroe last night, if indeed we do already have a dressing room of fed up players unhappy at Hughes' departure who want a British manager, would it not be wise to take heed of that? He did seem a little pssd off to be honest! The sooner its all sorted the better! I think HTC would have said No ones leavin unless i say so! he seems a strong character doesnt he? Nicko,i believe you about HTC and pana due to the sheer fact that im sure you'd have conceded by now that you cocked up but what is it you have up your sleeve? ps did aliens really abduct HTC in barbados?
hawkiiz Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Nicko,u dont have to many fans on the official board.so for your sake,i hope u right about ten cate.i know those guys on the official, and they are a hard to please bunch.but they do talk alot of sense.i cant believe after nearly a week,we have only interviewed bfs.that despite over 40 applicants having supposedly applied for the job. you dont just call the day after you got the applications and ask "good day sir, we want to talk to you tomorrow. come by ewood at 4 o'clock. we need to get interviews going." you have to prepare yourself. set goals. what are we looking for? what will they ask of us? and you have to let the person in question get some time to prepare. have you ever applied for a job and expected to get a call the same day or the day after, and then be interviewed the 3rd day and be offered the job the 4th? this is business and there is no rush since the players are on holiday and the transfer window arent open yet.
Spansterkid Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 did you watch rovers play under hughes? it was not much better, but apparently he is God. why not try sam? There was some pretty bad stuff with Hughes, and some pretty good stuff too. Think of the worst of Hughes and imagine it every week, add a few more punts to the corners, even more wasted long throws from Pederson, Jason Roberts the focus of all our football, further BBC's documentaries about Fat Sam's family's alleged dodgy dealings, Fat Sam refusing to speak to the BBC, having to listen to one of his hundred minions speak on his behalf... Yeah, Sam'd be great!
John Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I think there is quite a lot going on behind the scenes at the moment. Even Nicko said he is not completely sure. We are quite good at keeping our business quiet when we have to.

Why on earth would you want to take on a bonafide long ball merchant? then why aren't we all celebrating hughes' departure? we had success under hughes, whos style is much similar to sam, and everyone went into depression the day city came calling. what on earth is wrong with finding a manager who can build on what hughes started? if we appoint a man with a total different philosophy we wil have to sell a lot of players anyway because they dont fit in his system. welcome big sam!

We are quite good at keeping our business quiet when we have to. Good point, particularly when considering the way we handle player transfers - and I feel like there's a lot more at stake here. So I 'spect things will be kept well under wraps.
Hi Mack Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 According to two guys on 606 Laudrup has flown in. This is definate bull!cant see them just suddenly thinkin oh we'll try Laudrup! someone on 606 once said we were getting Henry on Loan! is 606 a board for special people?
Gumbi Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 According to two guys on 606 Laudrup has flown in. Has he been drinking Red Bull?
Blackburn Ender Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 One sobering thought for those, like me, who like to think JW is playing his cards close to his chest ready to pull out an ace.... Is the current ownership situation, looking for a buyer, clearly reluctant backers, etc, forcing JW to look to appoint someone who will accept the reality of little enthusiasm from the Trust? If so, he's probably not even bothering to go the extra mile to convince someone like Bilic, when he knows he can't guarantee the commitment of our owners. Which means JW will see his best strategy as appointing the safest pair of hands he can - BFS. Might not bring pretty football, but experienced enough not to get us relegated. And, as chairman, JW will have done his job.
ebenrocks Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 according to OddsChecker.com Ten Cate is now the 3rd favourite after BFS and Ince.

Personally don't know many fans that were that disappointed Hughes left. Towards the end it was getting like the end of Souness's reign. He'd clearly taken Rovers as far as he could. Under Souness we played some super stuff when we had Duff, Dunn, Jansen, Cole, but towards the end it was shocking. Ditto Hughes. The season with Bellamy and Pongolle up front we played some superb passing football - no doubt due to the size (and pace) of the front 2. Last year it reverted to pass around in our half, run out of ideas and hoof to Cruz or Roberts. It depends on your view on how football should be played. Personally, I enjoy watching players take the opposition on using skill and pace - not kicking it over their heads and hoping for the best. If it means selling alot of average players to do that then so be it. But 3 players who could certainly play it on the deck are Bentley, Cruz and McCarthy - our most saleable assets.

He'd clearly taken Rovers as far as he could. Oh come on...under Souness we were in the relegation zone when he left! Hughes took Rovers about as far as ANYONE could IMO, with the resources he had anyway. Well, maybe a master manager like Sir Alex or Wenger mightve done better with us, but thats a moot point.

nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Oh come on...under Souness we were in the relegation zone when he left! After FOUR games...and a mishit/foul injury-time equaliser away from beating Man U or you no doubt would have been challenging for Europe in the table at that point in early September.
hawkiiz Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 not disappointed? why are the boards filled with "cant believe he left for ######" "clearly there is no loyalty in him" and "this is the beginning of the end. next is bents, then santa and samba, then relagation" i dont think i need to look up the actual quotes. hughes could have taken us further but an oportunity presented itself for him and as a professional manager he took it with both hands and left. after all he want to be the best, and for that to happen he need to test himself at a higher level. now i dont remember blackburn playing sexy football ever. as a fan i did like it when duff was doing one of his raids and ripley/gillespie the same, but for the most part whe have been a bunch of stoppers with tugay playing a great pass to bentley/gamst who crosses to cruz/benni who bang them in. these players wont suddenly suck just because its sam who tell them to do these moves rather than sparky.
martmitch Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 cant believe shearer stayed with BBC, their commentary is as cringeworthy as watching the office, they cant stop talking over each other, poor martin o'neill cant get a word in, have fun al...
Brownie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 After FOUR games...and a mishit/foul injury-time equaliser away from beating Man U or you no doubt would have been challenging for Europe in the table at that point in early September. Nicko, when do you think the news organisations will realise that the announcement was premature and doubts begin to surface ?
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Oh come on...under Souness we were in the relegation zone when he left! Ok, we weren't in the bottom 3 when Hughes left, but based on last season's performances can you honestly say the football we played was better than the previous season? Hughes took Rovers about as far as ANYONE could IMO, with the resources he had anyway. Well, maybe a master manager like Sir Alex or Wenger mightve done better with us, but thats a moot point. I am not knocking Hughes, I agree he did a super job rebuilding from the Souness era, I just feel that he was beginning to run out of ideas. Therefore I am not overly upset he left. Remember, a couple of months ago, there were plenty of comments about Rovers' lacklustre performances on this board.

We werent that far from being relegated the previous season either.. Don't get me wrong I think the Souness tenure is viewed harshly by some but its a bit unfair on Hughes to draw comparisons. He had less money to spend and even in such a short space of time the league has arguably got harder, with so many mid table clubs suddenly coming into money.
