I agree with the comments about who wants it most.

Im only interested in the most determined manager who is determined to prove himself with our club and therefore make us a success. But i agree BFS or McClown are probably most gagging to put a few people in their place.

nicko.

my friend in athens says Henk was in greece two-three days before and made the PAO deal. could it be that he talked to rovers yesterday night, and agreed he did not fit the bill. then called his agent/PAO and said go!?

i know what you have said about the situation but this seems utterly weird.

I have yet to meet one fan who thinks the departure of Hughes will be beneficial to the club. Hughes played the type of football that got results and took us into Europe twice without spending any money. It wasn't always pretty but then again, we didn't always play great football when we won the title. Results were viewed as the most important factor.

Some of the most boring football I've seen at Ewood Park was played during the two seasons that Howard Kendall was manager. How he loved to nick a 1-0 win and yet attendances improved because we were winning and we won one promotion and only missed out on a second on goal average.

The new manager is going to have to improve on 7th place without any real financial backing if he is to improve on Hughes - or are we all happy to be relegated as long as we play football on the ground with skill and pace. Do you think Ewood Park will be full if we are on the way out of the Premier League no matter how attractive the football is? Are we really serious in thinking that selling Bentley, Santa Cruz, Samba, Warnock etc is really going to improve the team? Ultimately, these are the only players the new man can sell if he wants to raise a transfer fund. Or do we think there are mugs out there who are going to give us untold riches for the likes of Roberts, Gallagher, Peter, Rigters etc?

Football is a results driven industry. I don't care how attractive the football is if the new man doesn't get results the fans will soon get on his back. The reality is that Premier League football is essential for the Rovers to survive and how that is achieved isn't going to matter in the long run. If we can't find a buyer for the club while we are 7th in one of the World's top Leagues we ain't going to find one if we drop into the Championship.

If the quality of football no longer matters, then what's the point?

I am Blackburn born and bred, but supported rovers because I liked playing/watching FOOTBALL. Call me an idealist, but if survival of the club is to be achieved by any means then it is against the whole founding pricipal of the club- with SKILL and hard work.

Over the years I've followed Rovers home and away, seen the likes of John Beck's Cambridge get results, Wimbledon, Bolton etc and it was awful to watch. If that's the route Rovers end up going down just to guarantee survival I won't be on the terraces watching it.

Do you think Ewood would be full under Allardyce, just because he's keeping Rovers in the Premiership? The fans will drift away en masse, but that's ok because the cash cow of the Premiership will keep the club alive. Will the likes of Bentley, Santa Cruz, Warnock et al want to stay and be associated with a dour style of football?

What I would argue is that appointing a manager that tries to play entertaining football will retain what you may class as the 'part-timers' or 'purists' and you never know - it might not end up in us getting relegated, but actually become more successful on and off the pitch. Opting for a dour, points at all costs approach will most definitely alienate sections of the support.

Give it a rest eh ...

That's interesting - are you speaking as a moderator or is that just your personal opinion? Or has the board got so sterile that any questioning of Nicko is now deemed a breach of the guidelines?

If you don't like what Nicko writes then don't read his thread.

Nicko has to make a living, that’s why he is probably wanting until Sunday for it to be published. You have to respect his decision if and when he wants to release any information, he doesn't have to tell us jack ######, its his choice if he wants to keep us informed in anything Rovers related.

Nicko may be right about HTC and then again he might be wrong. The world of football is a ever changing one, some of the most unpredictable things happen like managers in seemingly secure jobs and are doing well suddenly get the sack, or a player makes a surprise move to another club.

I can only speak for myself when I say I greatly value his contribution to this site. I get the feeling that the majority of users of this forum feel the same.
