Interesting you say that about Laudrup.

Heres a question for you. If both Henk and Laudrup were available and interested in the post who would you pick and why?

I must admit i would pick laudrup purely on the basis of him having sucess at a similar sized club.

Talk about chuck enough mud! PadihamPedro you need to get away from the land of the Dingles, you are adopting their skewed brand of siege mentality! Your post is just another example of the unresearched shyte that is to be found from some quarters whenever Allardyce is mentioned. Lies lies and damned lies! Boltons attendance only slumped after Allardyce left. The Nazi's were amateurs at propaganda compered to our own 5th columnists.

Free from emotive crap these are the FACTS that our board will have in front of them.

since both teams were promoted.....

---------------- BRFC --- Pos -------- BWFC --- Pos

2007/8 .......... 23944 ... 7 .......... 20901 ... 16

2006/7 .......... 21275 ... 10 .......... 23606 ... 7

2005/6 .......... 21015 ... 6 .......... 25455 ... 8

2004/5 .......... 22315 ... 15 ......... 26006 ... 6

2003/4 .......... 24376 ... 15 ......... 26795 ... 8

2002/3 .......... 26226 ... 6 .......... 25017 ... 17

2001/2 .......... 25976 ... 10 .......... 25097 ... 16

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story eh Pedro? <_< Anyway I'm sure that other members are as keen to hear your comments as I am.

The crowds were dropping under Allardyce though as your post demonstrates. They dropped 2k and then another 2.5k the season after he left. If the club seriously want to keep the current trend of our attendances increasing they won't appoint Allardyce.

Actually that wasn't a founding principal, the motto was taken on sometime after the creation of the club and you sound like a Geordie in claiming quality of football is more important than results.

Then I accept the history lesson. Not a geordie, but I do agree with the majority of Geordies who accept they are unlikely to win didly **** so are happy to watch entertaining football.

I wonder if you've even seen Blackburn play much in the past decade? Assumedly you'll have missed quite a few games given your claim that you "won't be on the terraces watching" if our style of play isn't pretty enough because let's face it, we have played a lot of boring football for a number of different reasons at different times. Sparky had us playing it at first to keep us in the premiership but of course you didn't see that. It was, undeniably, poor football (which lead to poor results) which saw us get relegated from the premiership to begin with but of course I guess you didn't see that either. I mean let's face it, we didn't start playing good football again until the last 6 months before we were promoted once more and then we reverted back to boring (but often effective) football to grind out results and stay in the league. It was always interspersed with matches in which we passed the ball beautifully and we were a delight to behold but this wasn't regular and as such was very much enjoyed and appreciated at the time.

In a nutshell Roverich I attended virtually every home game (and many away) between 1980 to 1995. Since then I have attended sporadically. If that makes me a 'casual fan' or 'part timer so be it (though I could argue that as one of the 5-7k regular attendees during the 80's, that we now have 15000 casual fans) I have probably attended 5-6 games per season since 2003. Which, with the odd exception have been awful to watch.

As I said previoulsy I loved football as a kid, the best place to see it (as there wasn't the tv coverage back then) was live at Ewood and so the attachment to Rovers began.

Older and wiser now, I still love football but have my views on how it should be played. Due to satellite tv etc I can take my pick of watching any game in virtually any European league or even South American.

I want Rovers to do well and have a great affinity for them, but I'm not prepared to attend games that bore me rigid.

So would I watch Rovers play continuous long ball football in the Premiership - No! -would I still look out for the results and hope they do well - of course! -would I wacth them play attractive football in the Championship - Yes.

If I get slated for this opinion then so be it,

[

Nicko.

Paul Ince is evs, Ten Cate is 45/1, Laudrup is 45/1 and Martinez is 80/1.

Do you think Ince is 45 times more likely to get the job than Laudrup or Ten Cate and 80 times more likely than Martinez ???

That is not a valid argument imo Manc. Our crowds were mirroring Boltons in dropping too despite the popular Mark Hughes being in charge and performing minor miracles on a regular basis. We only showed an upturn when we slashed the cost of ST's to below those of even our neighbours in the lower divisions.

Odds like that and I'm gonna have to put more money on Ten Cate, must be worth a punt if he's still got an interview to come!

Someone will slate you but not me. I'm desperate we stay in the premier league but I want to watch matches where I feel a sense of anticipation before the game, not a sense of resignation to watching my team possibly grind out a boring one nil at best. I don't believe along with the Geordies that it's better to play exciting football and lose than watch one nils. there are some games where you have to accept that one nil is as good as it gets - I'd take one nil over Man Utd any day thanks. It's about the height of your ambitions though. Rightly or wrongly Hughes has raised the bar. Rovers fans, despite knowing that we're a small club with limited resources, expect better than just survival. That takes us back to what Souness offered. ( I know we did better than just survive but it's waht he said about getting to that 40 points mark) We've moved on a bit, and I want to keep that forward movement. I'm not unrealistic, despite what others may try to say. I know we have precious little cash and few fans especially outside the area. I know we'll still end up last on MOTD every week barring a real BBC change of heart. I know we can't attract really top class players or a real big name manager, but I want a guy with a real vision of what he could do here given the chance. I want a bit of excitement. I want to win but I also want a bit of style when it's appropriate.

Yeah I spent it on Bewleys Berry!

Oh yeah. That's where my money for a PS3 went.

The annoying thing was that if I'd backed it on the day it was the same price as antepost and I would have got paid out on 5th place. But we'll not talk about this anymore.

Err, what about Peter Reid anyone?

Can I ask if you were around in the late sixties early seventies when the Rovers plunged from top of the First Division to the lower reaches of the Third? In the early sixties we had a team capable of playing the most attractive football you could ever wish to see. However, one bad season and we were out of the top flight and as long term decline set in the fans deserted the club in droves. It took 25 years to return to the top flight. I, for one, never want those days to return and I honestly believe that if we are ever relegated it could prove a one way trip to oblivion. The funding that Jack provided when we were relegated last time won't be there. That's the reason why I say that survival is vital not only for the Rovers but for most Premier League clubs.

No I wasn't around in the 60's or early 70's but take your point. As a club, the club must go on and it has to do what is needed to ensure survival.

As an aside the founding principal of the club was not skill and hard work. That was the town motto and certainly not adopted by the club until many, many years later. I seem to remember the club wore the town badge on the shirt in the 1960 FA Cup Final. When the club was founded the Rovers played a robust type of game and paid under the counter payments to pay Scottish players at a time when professionalism was illegal. The early pioneers of the club did whatever was neccessary to be successful.

Personally however, as someone who enjoys football, I feel no committment to pay and watch football I do not appreciate.

It is almost endemic of society today that most people want success at all costs. As a teacher, I see kids growing up with this attitude and they are not bothered if they have to do illegal things or ruin nice things to achieve that. BRFC do alot of work with schools in the area. On the above basis, are football clubs the best role models for the youth of today?
