Altidore is a big hard working lad, very young (turns 19 in the fall) and could very well be the attacking foil for the American attack (along with Adu) for years to come.... Big = 6'1", 175 lbs, but looks more muscular than that.

It would surprise the heck out of me if we were to go in for him, not because he isn;t talented, but becuase he's a striker where I didn't think we would look.

Only question in my head - work permit problem... since he's 18, and the USA team is trying to find their attacking options, not sure he's got the 75% appearances "rule" covered, unless they give him credit for the U-XX internationals which he's featured in for years, or the olympics.

Good scoring return, both club and country:

club - 35 games - 24 starts - 14 goals 5 assists

Full NT - I think its 3 games 1 start, 1 goal, and I know he drew a pen once that he didn't take.

I'm quite certain he'll be in the olympic squad, unless Bradley senior decides he's needed for the WCQ match played during the olympics (how's THAT for scheduling).

Nicko, do you have any way of finding out how Wayne Brown is coming along in training for Hull City, as he hadn't trained all week, yet the club havn't said anything other than "50-50", but that was a few days ago.

Hull don't have any defensive cover, so could make a crazy team selection for Wembley (well, no defensive cover, unless you count Simon Walton... but, not a lot of people class him as a footballer, nevermind defensive).

could hughes be looking at eidur gudjonson again , he quite fancied him before moving to barca , his ability to play in different formations

might suit if we were to go 4-4-1-1 or 4-3-3 something hughes has experimented with this season?

Yeah I thought that and am pretty sure the man himself has said he'd stay at Wolves.

I think Carson to Villa is on - the fee has been slashed. Villa would only have to pay £4 million now. They already paid £1.2 million or so in loan fees last season.

The trouble with Gudjohnsen is his wages. He was looking for a fortune a year ago. If he has dropped his demands he would be an asset for anyone. I can't imagine the fee will be too high.

However as Gudjohnsen is a bit of a jet-setter I think he might look down his nose at Rovers. It would be worth asking all the same...

Incidentally Arshavin is available at Zenit. The fee is around £10 million. Man City trying to raise the dough as we speak.

If only...

re: Altidore

MLS/Red Bull New York turned down Villareal's offer of $8.5M (4.3M pounds)

(and in January apparently Reading offerred 2.5M pounds for him as well

BUT, the reports (from a number of US footie blogs) were that if someone met the valuation for 5M pounds (about $10M US) then they may let him go

Lafferty...what's cryptic about that. Big Irish lad, plays for your nearest and dearest. Wolves and Celtic into it too. Big time.

Come on big man, you're sharper than that!

Juan Pablo Angel recommended Villa to him...god I loved Angel, legend. Ironically I don't think it's an area we should be looking at as first priority really.
