Blue n White Rover Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 He is, however, quoted as saying that he has signed. "I’ m delighted to have reached an agreement with Panathinaikos FC. In my career I have been used to working at the highest level of competition and that’s one of the reasons why I consider this new step to be a great challenge. Panathinaikos’ organization, history, ambition and attitude towards football in general match those of the greatest football clubs in Europe, so I’ m confident that we will achieve our goals. I’ m looking forward to coming to Athens and meeting my players" Not signed but reached an agreement!

hawkiiz Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Could he not have supplied the quote before he had his nightcap and went to bed? he could. but if nicko is right, he talked to rovers late that night and planned an interview. why would he go to PAO right afterwards?
T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Oh you brown-nosed tease. I now see why Nicko does this, having us all jumping through hoops. In all seriousness, if anyone wants the PM, I suggest you ask him, not me. One of us will definitely say no, the other might not.
thenodrog Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Meanwhile in Barbados Henk Ten Cate was in his bed, well aware that his Rovers chances had just soared before he had his nightcap. No doubt "Dreaming of Rovers"! btw speaking of Dreaming of Ajax, the links 2 years old but young Laudrup is pictured bearing more than a passing resemblance to his Dad. http://english.ajax.nl/web/show/id=154814/contentid=61267

At least I have something to look forward to tommorow or tonight whenever Nicko is going to reveal. Exciting/Worrying times
Scotty Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Why would he take a job he was offered a week earlier and been stalling on waiting for Rovers to come into view...a couple of hours after they just had? Why did he not sign for Panathinaikos when he met them originally a week before rather than go on holiday and leave it unsigned? The fog may lift eventually. And you call me the conspiracy theorist! Every major news agency and sporting web-site in the world is saying that Ten Cate to Pana is a done deal. Only one person doesn't agree - and so far he's put nothing into print. I'm looking forward to this story tomorrow, it's gonna shake the world (assumming The People can squeeze it in ahead of their usual gossip and propaganda).
thenodrog Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Got the PM Nicko, thanks for that. Got the PM Tugay4England, thanks for that.
T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 As much as I like you Gordy, you'd be well down the list
mac Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Could one of you kind people please send me the PM Ta !
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Perhaps it's us teachers who are the only idealists around. I want success for my kids but I also want them to enjoy learning and finding out about things, whereas the kids see success in terms of how much cash they can get their hands on, by whatever means possible. the only value of learning something is "What will it get me in economic terms?" However, don't knock Rovers' education programme. they do a very good languages day and a lot of the work they do with the kids is about trying to get them to see the value of learning. I am not belittling the Rovers education department Gumboots, they do a great job. The club as a whole must take responsibility for doing things the 'right' way and show kids that winning at all costs is not what sport is about -though this mindset seems predominant through the fanbase as well. Let's just appoint Van Basten and buy the entire Dutch side - Job done I know this has gone completely off thread - so I'll get me coat!
Hasta Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 You do now realise that in 5 minutes Nicko's story will probably be plastered on the Betfair forum and that'll be the end of his participation on this site.
nicko Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 And you call me the conspiracy theorist! Every major news agency and sporting web-site in the world is saying that Ten Cate to Pana is a done deal. I'm looking forward to this story tomorrow, it's gonna shake the world (assumming The People can squeeze it in ahead of their usual gossip and propaganda). If I didn't know better I would say you were bitter and twisted. There's no conspiracy in this, just a normal managerial chase. You have already climbed down from 'done deal' to 'reached an agreement' after 24 hours...and based it all on ONE quote. While you work through the statement again I'll just keep sniffing around to find out what's happenig behind the spin.

Alternatively two weeks or so ago that could have read.......... !Why would he (Mark Hughes) take a job he was offered a week earlier and been stalling on waiting for Chelsea to come into view...a couple of hours after they just had? Why did he not sign for Man City when he met them originally a week before rather than go on holiday and leave it unsigned? The fog may lift eventually. What goes around, come around eh?
Pugg Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Every major news agency and sporting web-site in the world is saying that Ten Cate to Pana is a done deal. Only one person doesn't agree - and so far he's put nothing into print. You're very closed minded with regards to Nicko aren't you? Any particular reason? I am genuinely interested. You are just repeating the same things over and over again. You've made the point a couple of times now about why Nicko would be sitting on this story. Surely you've made your point by now. Ten Cate could be a done deal, ie reaching an agreement. However, you have said yourself that he won't actually sign until the end of June. People do accept the terms of one job while still having interviews.
T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Hughes never got a call or an offer of an interview from Chelsea. We've been told that HTC has. Big difference.

Not bitter and twisted at all Nicko, just trying to get at the real news regarding our manager search. And I haven't climbed down anything - I've mearly put up links to a number of web-sites and quoted Pana's official site. You don't like being questioned much do you? Why is that?
thenodrog Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Hughes never got a call or an offer of an interview from Chelsea. We've been told that HTC has. Big difference. Did he not Toogs? Then why sign for City in a London hotel just after a board meeting at Chelsea where allegedly Abromovich would not be swayed by Buck, Areneson and Kenyon into signing Hughes? Seems a long way to drive simply to sign fot a team 25 miles away.

bob fleming Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Nobody send me the PM! I don't want to know. I want to buy the Sunday People tomorrow as I always do but with an element of excitment this time . I want to read that Henk Ten Jobs has reached an agreement with Paraffinikos but wants to speak to Rovers first before deciding on whether to sign for them or not. I don't want that ruining by any of you lot thank you very much!

People do accept the terms of one job while still having interviews. I'm only questioning Nicko on this particular issue as I don't believe Ten Cate has ever been in the running for the Rovers job, which leaves me to wonder why Nicko is pushing him so hard. So far I would say that the evidence seems to back my opinion up. As for Nicko's contributions in general, I'm all for them and enjoy reading them as much as the next fan.
T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Did he not Toogs? Then why sign for City in a London hotel just after a board meeting at Chelsea? Seems a long way to drive simply to sign fot a team 25 miles away. If I remember correctly he was hoping to be well positioned if Chelsea made the call. They didn't. I'm not really sure how you think this is comparable. Are you saying that Chelsea did come in for Hughes, but he signed for Man City anyway? Or that HTC hasn't had a call and neither did Hughes? Sparky waited for a call. It didn't come. He went with the backup. HTC waited for a call. It did come. That makes it different.
