T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Well, according to nicko it did, but even if it did, acording to the rest of the sporting world he nevertheless turned us down and agreed to go to Greece instead. I would say the point is that none of the reports of Ten Cate to Greece mention him turning down or even having considered Rovers. If it did say this I'd be more likely to believe it. However the information here is that he is in the Rovers frame, which makes a difference to the Pana story. I guess we'll see. I too will be very impressed if Nicko is correct.

brian_gallagher85 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Nope, but I've got a funny story about her. She recently split up with her boyfriend (okay, that bit's not so funny) and Caleb Folan, the Hull striker, was quickly onto the scene, texting her and asking her out. With him being a Premier League footballer she was interested naturally, but when she googled him and found a picture, she was less inclined! Not sure about Nicko selling it to the People. but I wonder if the journo on the official site would be interested in getting that one into the Sun on Monday or NOTW tomorrow
TugaysMarlboro Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Oh Oh Oh Oh, Can I have that PM pleaseeeeeeeee?
nicko Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Well, according to nicko it did, but even if it did, acording to the rest of the sporting world he nevertheless turned us down and agreed to go to Greece instead. HE DID AND HE HAS NOT Meanwhile, back to the Mirror, they seemed quite adamant today that Ince was on the verge of agreeing a three year contract and would be appointed next week. NOT STRICTLY TRUE, THEY ARE TO INTERVIEW AT LEAST TWO MORE BEFORE MAKING A DECISION. And that we would try to give him as much as we could from the sales of Bentley (valued at 10m) and RSC (valued at 15m) in order to keep the team "competitive". DON'T BELIEVE THAT AT ALL. Nicko, if there was nothing at all in this story and they had an alternative version sat on their desk from you, one of their best contributors, why would they run it, knowing it to be tenuous at best? I'M SURE THEY BELIEVE IT. Is it not possible a lot of the nitty gritty could have been sorted out behind the scenes with Ince's agent etc? NO. Does this not indicate the 10m mooted to be available to Hughes to freshen up the squad has mysteriously vanished into the mist? Could it be a reason for Shearer and HTC distancing themselves from the role? ANOTHER REASON TO DOUBT THE CONTENT OF THE STORY. TEN CATE HAS NOT DISTANCED HIMSELF AT ALL. Can I ask anymore questions in one post? POSSIBLY.
gumboots Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Since the main person to be criticised for objecting to allardyce was me it was a case of if the cap fits .... I did appreciate that you were trying to be humorous but just because one candidate makes my flesh creep I find it very patronising that you should suggest that I'd object to other candidates for tenuous and illogical reasons. I'm quite prepared to give a chance to whoever the board decides to appoint as long as it's not the ex Bolton and Newcastle manager. I've heard the reasons why several posters think he'd be a good choice, and on some of those reasons I can even find some measure of agreement. I want, like all on here, what's right for Rovers and what will bring continued success, and possible improvement. I want to suport the club. just can't stand that one man.
tony gale's mic Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Yeah for me the giveaway in that story was that we'd be so willing to give up RSC and Bentley together.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 And that we would try to give him as much as we could from the sales of Bentley (valued at 10m) and RSC (valued at 15m) in order to keep the team "competitive". If thats is true then it does pose an interesting question to think about. Would you trust Paul Ince to spend £25 million wisely? We all know what BFS did with his £26m at Newcastle. I agree with Revidge about selling our best players would have a huge impact on our season, unless of course they were replaced with quality players with the money available. I've resigned myself to the likelyhood that Bents will be going, Roque i think we should fight hard to keep. Its not just his goals that are vital for the team but his workrate is immense.
American Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Ten Cate hasn't distanced himself from the Pana story either. It's been out there a full 24 hours now, so I'm sure he hasn't been sleeping this whole time...

brian_gallagher85 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Yes, but if he did and then didn't get the Rovers job do you think they'd still offer him the post?

Scotty Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Another quick question before I go out for the day (I'm sure you'll all be very relieved). I don't want to come across as teaching my grandma to suck eggs, but presumably there are thousands of Pana fans in Greece (and elsewhere) currently labouring under the misapprehension that Ten Cate is defiantely going to be their next manager. As you seem to know different Nicko, shouldn't you be trying to sell your story to someone in Greece? I can see that the whole story isn't that newsworthy over here to anyone other than Rovers fans, but I'm guessing it would be big news in Greece. Oh, and you seem to have forgotten to send me the mysterious PM. S'not fair.
hawkiiz Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 if he deny the PAO story, then he risk not having any job at all. of course he dont deny the story. he has untill the end of june to find something better.
RevidgeBlue Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 What I don't understand is WHY the Mirror believe the Ince story if there is in fact nothing to it. Are they just completely fishing on the off chance they get lucky? To be fair haven't seen a run of It's Shearer/It's BFS/It's HTC type stories every day before now.
T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 What I don't understand is WHY the Mirror believe the Ince story if there is in fact nothing to it. I am also struggling with that. Perhaps they know the shortlist, have info that BFS's interview didn't go well, don't see much hope for Martinez and think HTC has gone to Greece, so have got to Ince by a process if elimination. There's smoke, which means there must be a fire.......somewhere......
Iceman Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Rite iceman wants that pm,from nicko.then again,im just going to wait for Tim Sherwood to be announced as the new rovers boss.watch this space.
RevidgeBlue Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Yes, but if he did and then didn't get the Rovers job do you think they'd still offer him the post? Even if he doesn't deny having agreed to go to Greece at this point, then goes for a Rovers interview and doesn't get it, that's hardly going to go down too well with his Greek employers.

T4E Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 David Craig on SSN has just said that MK Dons have said they've not had an approach from us for Ince, and his information is that it's nowhere near a done deal. Also says Sam Allardyce hasn't had an interview, but expects one on Monday or Tuesday (Surely he'd have a date by now?) Thoughts on these points Nicko? He been talking to Stroke Boy?

Probably why he's so interested in the Rovers job, as we keep things like this on the QT and are very good at doing so OK hands up who is the plant from the Pana boardsroom on here?

There's smoke, which means there must be a fire.......somewhere...... No, it's the same 'Ince is going to get it' that the same reporter wrote about ten days before. There's no more homework than that. Mind you the chap also wrote 'Ince for Wigan' on the day Bruce got the job. There WAS a Shearer's going to get it and a Sam's going to get it too...I wouldn't worry there will be more before it's over.
deftangel Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Something that did occur to me was that at the beginning of the week, I was under the strong impression there was an interview process with several candidates only to subsequently find out the Board had gone a reasonable way into having exploratory talks with Shearer. It could be the same scenario with Ince. Hope not mind.

Point one - would you tell David Craig anything? Point two - he made two absolutely huge mistakes in his 'piece' that undermined the rest. Nobody in the running will say anything at the moment. You've got to remember there are some big egos out there who won't want to be overlooked...
