dring1 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Considering Ince is now the bookie's favourite I wouldn't worry too much.. all that has to do with is the mirror story saying he has the job and now is favourite.
nicko Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 OK, fair's fair. Many thanks to those who kept the lid on what was told to them earlier. Good to know... You can discuss the Sunday People tale now. It won't make a rival paper, so go for it.
tony gale's mic Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 all that has to do with is the mirror story saying he has the job and now is favourite. Yeah but either way, doubt they'd stop taking bets on BFS unless there was major news to suggest otherwise. Presty's explanation would probably cover it.

nicko Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 HERE IS THE STORY AS IT SHOULD APPEAR...DO US A FAVOUR AND BUY IT ALL THE SAME...OR I WILL GET MY JOTTERS... Chelsea are trying to block Henk Ten Cate's bid to bounce back into management with Blackburn Rovers in a sensational twist. The Dutchman - also wanted by Greek giants Panathinaikos - is due for talks with Rovers about their vacancy on Wednesday after he finishes a holiday in Barbados. However the Stamford Bridge outfit are trying to stop the highly-rated former Barcelona number two and Ajax chief returning to the Premier League and coming back to haunt them. Ten Cate has not finalised pay-off terms at Chelsea after leaving when Avram Grant was removed - and part of the negotiations include a demand for him to sign away the chance of working in England for a year. Tough-guy Ten Cate does not want to agree to that ban and plans to speak to Blackburn. If they offer him the job he will say 'stuff Chelsea' and take them on for his cash. Ten Cate is still a live runner along with Sam Allardyce, Paul Ince and Steve McClaren as Rovers take their time on the appointment after Alan Shearer's shock snub. The contract pay-off wrangle - worth a small fortune - will also stop Ten Cate from being able to take the Greek job. He won't give up that much money easily according to sources close to him. Ten Cate was only at Chelsea for under a year and this would cost him dearly, but he is a hard customer in more ways than one. He has told Greek side Panthinaikos that he will join them soon - but has yet to put pen to paper. The Greeks claim he is joining but friends confirm he would rather come to England after stalling for a week until he was formally invited for an interview with Rovers which came after Shearer said no. Rovers want to talk to Ten Cate to find out if he is cut out to be a number one. His CV is superb after his success at Chelsea where he was the 'brains' of the outfit. Ten Cate also won the Champions League with Frank Rijkaard at Barca and their slip since is seen by many as being down to his departure from Spain. Blackburn want to see Ten Cate face-to-face after talking to other candidates they know more about. If he impresses he may well get the job. Allardyce is also desperate for the post. He has met Rovers and told them his plans in a special 'presentation' and significantly would take just a handful of backroom staff with him. The former Bolton and Newcastle chief is famed for his large managerial teams, but he will compromise to get back into football - with the aim of proving some of his old clubs and critics wrong. Rovers may also talk to Ince, Roberto Martinez and Aidy Boothroyd as they take their time over the appointment following the shock Shearer decision. Officials at Rovers even asked the Premier League if they could name Shearer as their new manager - before the bombshell news that their old hero was turning them down. Shearer's appointment was 'close' as insiders revealed he and his camp had spent 72 hours discussing the post and several other issues about his first start in management. And Rovers took the step of getting approval from the League about the potential coup, ironing out the problem of his lack of qualifications. Shearer - like Gareth Southgate and Glenn Roeder before him - does not have his full set of coaching badges. But he is in the process of doing them and would have been allowed to work. The collapse of the talks was a blow for Rovers, but there were worries within the club about his desire to carry on his BBC career and also demands for commercial deals as part of his contract.

RevidgeBlue Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 As one of the message board lepers who didn't get the p.m. what tale is this? Ooops, beat me to it - cheers nicko. This Ten Cate stuff is all very puzzling. Can't understand why he would want to commit to ANY job until he had sorted out his Chelski payoff really, but you'd have thought a job out of the country such as Panathanikos would be more likely than one in this country.
Hughesy Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 I said at the time when nicko sent me the PM that HTC should just forget chelsea, sign for us and make them pay. They are obviously worried about what he could do with another club, which suggests he cant be all that bad!! Just hope he isnt using us to settle his compo dispute with Chelsea before heading off into the sun.

tony gale's mic Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 The one thing I thought was strange when I got that PM was why are Chelsea so bothered about him not signing for us? You could understand if one of the big 4 wanted him (more realistically as their assistant), but surely meeting us twice a season isnt that big a worry for them? Still, is all very interesting...
Saf Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 chelsea know wht ten cate is capable off. all his experience dosent come from nowhere
S15 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 53?!? Tell you what, a couple of days in Barbados has done him no harm. Aaaaalriiiight.....
Saf Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 having ten cate as rovers would not alo be good beacuse hes got experince of big thing but his ability to attract. i mean someone like gudjohnsen maybe fancy coming to rovers if ten cate is in charge rather than BFS or ince sim[ply beacuse u dont be assitant t chelsea and barcelona if ur rubbish lets put it tht way. he must hv something good about and i no doubt he does. Com ON MR CATE WE WANT U AS OUR NEW BOSS
dring1 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 chelsea know wht ten cate is capable off. all his experience dosent come from nowhere they did do the same with jose but i cant understand why they would stop him coming to rovers. not as if were going to win the premier league or champions league any time soon
Saf Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 they did do the same with jose but i cant understand why they would stop him coming to rovers. not as if were going to win the premier league or champions league any time soon yeh but if he was to take charge in the ewood hotseat and was to bring in a few big name players and take us into top5/6 few people may look back and say were chelsea right to sack him
my_name_is_Earl Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 I thought as much. Thanks Nicko, il be purchasing a copy as a token of my appreciation. I don't understand why on earth Chelsea would be so worried about him managing Rovers, particularly as we don't have the resources to currently challenge Chelsea's position. Is there any more to it Nicko as in, do you think they are genuinely worried by his ambition at Rovers or do you feel they're just throwing aaround their muscle?
dring1 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 yeh but if he was to take charge in the ewood hotseat and was to bring in a few big name players and take us into top5/6 few people may look back and say were chelsea right to sack him might be true if big phil doesnt work out
Mozzer Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 henk ten cate is certainly the standout candidate for the job-and the fact he wants to manage us makes it better.. i bet he has some good contacts around the game..so players like saviola and gudjohnson could possibly want to come to us if he signed.. rovers might decide to go for a british manager tho..
S15 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Henk Ten Bob Short Cate more like. Eh.... Eh..............
philipl Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 I'm no employment lawyer but as an employer I wouldn't like to defend a situation in which I fired his boss, publicly stated that his position is secure, fired him two days later because of a shift in internal politics then started to negotiate a pan-European restraint of trade clause into the compensation agreement for a straightforward employer's breach of contract. HtC is 53 and unlike the Special One is more likely to disappear off the radar if he doesn't get a top footbal job quickly. If you look at his wide and various experience, the one thing HtC has never done is sit out any time without a job- football seems to be the reason he wakes up in the morning. Chelski are really screwing Rovers around this summer one way and another. No doubt Rafa will be straight into Ewood Park for RSC and Bentley when Chelski prise Torres away from Liverpool as well.
tony gale's mic Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Anyone think that if we steal ten Cate from under the noses of Panathinaikos it could be quite good for our image? Panathinaikos are a much more famous team than we are, bigger club by far (even if they are in a much inferior league) and I'd imagine more money to spend. But if ten Cate came to us after seemingly agreeing to join Pana then it would definitely send out a good message to potential signings about our club.
bats Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Nicko, did you say that you had some small takeover news?
