Just a few thoughts...

It is quite a compliment to Ten Cate's ability that Chelsea want him as far away as possible. Maybe Rovers should realise they have someone pretty special within their reach.

I was amazed when I heard this was part of the negotiations in his pay-off wrangle.

Anyway, let's state what is certain.

1 - He hasn't signed for Panathinaikos because he has to sort this out first. That is one of the reasons why he did not sign for them originally and why he can't commit just yet. He has shot himself in the foot with the news that he could go there by the end of the month. It won't help him negotiate a pay-off with Chelsea - a foolish move by his camp. That makes him or his advisers a bit thick in my eyes.

2 - There is a window of opportunity here for Rovers. If they want to step in, talk to him and offer him the job then there IS still time. It's up to them. Maybe they like someone they have already talked to. As far as I am aware he is still down to meet Rovers on Wednesday...but a lot can happen between now and then.

3 - The compensation issue can be got round, obviously this would cost Rovers as they might have to pitch in to help out of he loses out on his pay-off. But they just got £4.6 million for Sparky an his chums. So, come on, that should not be a problem.

4 - Shrewd operators could get this done. If this obstacle proves unsurmountable then neither Ten Cate or Rovers are committed enough to the idea.

The next few days will be very interesting.

And, finally, DON'T bet on this market!

I don't want HTC here anyway, but to play devil's advocate, if we were frightened off by Shearer's demands for a cut of merchandising rights etc., I can't see us wanting to get involved in a legal wrangle with Abramovic.

It's not a legal battle with Abramovich. It's about Ten Cate's money.

He can just walk and wave goodbye to his dough.

But Rovers have to want him first and make it worth his time.

Don't give up easily.

What if MK Dons say you can't have Ince? Run away and hide?

I'm going to throw a tantrum if we don't invite Henk over for an interview and opt for someone like BFS or, even worse, McClaren, instead. We've got one of the best footballing brains in the game wanting to be our manager - and considering our less than impressive wish list, I'd be furious if we don't grab this excellent opportunity.

With Chelsea having broken HtC's employment contract, presumably he is effectively free to write "Inside the Bridge" as the gagging clauses will have fallen away as well. He might need a ghost writer Nicko....

The quote ascribed to HtC re Panathanaikos is easily deniable given he can presumably produce his Barbadan hotel bills and phone bills and bar bills and frankly it doesn't say anything that the Chelski lawyers could get their teeth into. The quote (even if he admits to having said it) says he has agreed but not signed anything and the timing on going there is 100% Panathanaikos say-so.

If Rovers offer HtC a job, eyes open, I don't see what the Chelsea scrap has to do with Rovers other than being a distraction. Garden leave isn't exactly a common practise in British football so I'd think Rovers would be able to muster a pretty powerful coalition against Chelsea if we wanted to.

As things stand, HtC's severance has not been sorted and its headed to the Courts. Big deal- that sort of thing happens all the time other than HtC's argument for hardship would be removed as he would have found employment quickly. However, Courts try not to disadvantage enterprising plaintives who actively seek employment and succeed in getting it. Unfair dismissal could be the route for HtC to go in which case Rovers wouldn't get involved at all.

He can just walk and wave goodbye to his dough.

It's not that straightforward if HTC doesn't feel he should be agreeing to a clause not allowing him to work in the Prem for 12 months.

He's either going to be tied up in legal wranglings with Chelski for ages or is going to expect us to stump up the pay off he would have had from Chelski.

Neither situation is ideal but I'd certainly rather we saved that money for our transfer budget.

What's the issue?

If he is willing to go on gardening leave, Chelsea have to cough up. If he is getting employed elsewhere, Chelsea don't have to pay for gardening leave and he'll hardly be penniless earning E2.5m in Greece or whatever proportion of Sparky's salary he'll get to start off with at Rovers. He will have been well paid at Chelsea as the assistant but I would be suprised if he were on more than Panathanaikos or Rovers would offer.

But all the more normal elements of a football dismissal are there in this case and HtC will still be in line for a handsome pay-off if he agrees not to disclose what was going on at Chelski.

Nicko, Could Ten Cate be using Rovers in the same way that you said Hughes tried to use City. Would Chelsea be more willing to sign off his money if they thought they could stop him from joining a us & possibly taking 6 points off them next year!?!

If they rated him that highly, surely they wouldn't have sacked him?.

Leave the Rovers betting alone.

Back the Russkies to win Euro 2008...35-1 plus.

This lot can run all day.

Holland have been great, but they are an old team.

This mob will go all the way.

I put money on them at the start of the tournament - Only got 22-1...

Personally, all of the comments on here reflect what JW was quoted as saying in the Telegraph today. We have several interviews and we'll choose the best one. If Henk is the best then the club will get him, its as simple as that and lets hope he is the best candidate because he appears to prefer an attacking style of football and his contact list must be immense.

Regarding BFS on ITV today, if we have learned anything from the Shearer saga, BFS has clearly been in touch with Rovers. He obviously doesn't want to discuss this as many of you have already pointed out i.e. he doesn't want to appear to have been overlooked in the national press.

My own knowledge of football suggests that BFS will not get the job clearly as his success at bolton came at a price (large wages and long ball football). even if he did manage to get results, his image is not how the club are looking to present themselves either to the fans or the rest of the football world. I feel it would have been negligent not to have interviewed him out of curiosity but I feel this was simply to establish whther he could be considered a serious candidate or not. Referring to JW's previous comments, I doubt that Ince will get the job unless the process starts to collapse. His lack of experience is his main problem and analysing what JW has said, this would appear to count against him, certainly if there are better candidates available.

Does anyone else share similar views?

Yes, no way he could have made those quotes on the phone. The article never said he was in Greece at the time...

Agree with the second sentence though, but would be willing to bet that as of July 1, he will be the manager of Pana.

Awesome Nicko, thanks for sharing. To be fair, without you input, this messageboard would be full of wild speculation nonsense and premature coronaries (i.e. pre 18 June 07). And rubbish for it, no matter what the likes of 'Rover6' and 'Scotty' may wish to rant on about.

And BFSam earlier live on the ITV, extolling the virtues of Sweden successfully stopping Spains 'creative' players from functioning, as if that is the be all and end all of competitive football. Great stuff. I'll still support oRvers if BFS was manager, I just won't bother to go watch them.
