Tom 1 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I think Carson to Villa is on - the fee has been slashed. Villa would only have to pay £4 million now. They already paid £1.2 million or so in loan fees last season. Oh (Please don't use that word again).

Exiled_Rover Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Altidore is a big hard working lad, very young (turns 19 in the fall) and could very well be the attacking foil for the American attack (along with Adu) for years to come.... Big = 6'1", 175 lbs, but looks more muscular than that. It would surprise the heck out of me if we were to go in for him, not because he isn;t talented, but becuase he's a striker where I didn't think we would look. Only question in my head - work permit problem... since he's 18, and the USA team is trying to find their attacking options, not sure he's got the 75% appearances "rule" covered, unless they give him credit for the U-XX internationals which he's featured in for years, or the olympics. Good scoring return, both club and country: club - 35 games - 24 starts - 14 goals 5 assists Full NT - I think its 3 games 1 start, 1 goal, and I know he drew a pen once that he didn't take. I'm quite certain he'll be in the olympic squad, unless Bradley senior decides he's needed for the WCQ match played during the olympics (how's THAT for scheduling). If he's quick he's exactly what we need upfront.
nicko Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Checked out Altidore...he won't get a work permit, so he is likely to go to Spain for a year or two. Villarreal are the current favourites.
joey_big_nose Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 If he's quick he's exactly what we need upfront. Yup. looks like a Roberts replacement. I can see this one having wings.
joey_big_nose Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Checked out Altidore...he won't get a work permit, so he is likely to go to Spain for a year or two. Villarreal are the current favourites. Oh. Maybe not then. But I thought if the player is considered exceptionally talented then you can appeal against the decision on the work permit?
Exiled_Rover Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Oh. Maybe not then. But I thought if the player is considered exceptionally talented then you can appeal against the decision on the work permit? That only works if you're Utd, Chelski et al.
jprover4life Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 The trouble with Gudjohnsen is his wages. He was looking for a fortune a year ago. If he has dropped his demands he would be an asset for anyone. I can't imagine the fee will be too high. However as Gudjohnsen is a bit of a jet-setter I think he might look down his nose at Rovers. It would be worth asking all the same... Incidentally Arshavin is available at Zenit. The fee is around £10 million. Man City trying to raise the dough as we speak. If only... Nicko, that Arshavin lad is quality, cant believe Zenit will let him go.do you know why? would love rovers to go in for him, i wud be more that happy for our budget to be spent on a player of his quality!!!

Agreed. I know that £10 million is the price both Man City and Everton have been told will get him - I think he is worth the money. The only reason Zenit can be selling must be because the player wants to go. He has been there for ten years and might fancy a change. It's a lot of cash for Rovers, but you just wish they had it. He would be a joy to watch.
Cocker Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Dam it. When I saw that you had posted Nicko I thought you were bringing the good news that the Ghaly talk was a load of ol tosh
roversmum Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Never mind, Cocker, the sun is shining and there are only 101 days until the transfer window closes (and it isn't even open yet................. )

He would be a joy to watch. Maybe we should stick a £7-8million bid in and test how serious the others are? Would love us to make a real signing like that, selling off some of the dead wood would raise some funds for other areas of the squad. What sort of wages would he be loking for tho??
Cocker Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Never mind, Cocker, the sun is shining and there are only 101 days until the transfer window closes (and it isn't even open yet................. ) Yes I know - great fun isnt it

nicko Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I think I nailed that as tosh last night...but it was a long evening. Just checked - I did at 20:47. It was wrong then and it's still wrong now.
LeftWinger Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I'm actually disappointed we're not looking at Ghaly. He's exactly the sort of players Rovers should be looking at. He's really talented, and just needs the right manager to get the best out of him. If he already had a top class attitude, then we'd have no chance of signing him. We took a chance on Bentley - another who had question marks about his attitude, but always had talent, and that's turned out very well.
PLZ Blue Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Just checked - I did at 20:47. It was wrong then and it's still wrong now. And we all breathe a collective sigh of relief... thanks Nicko. Incidentally... and I know this has been brought up before; but any news on Farfan?

It's all fairly quiet just now. I think several key employees might be taking a holiday before it all kicks off.

nicko Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Interesting stuff from Fergie regarding Giggs and Scholes and being slowly phased out. This was touched on a month or so ago. I wouldn't be surprised if your boss had a sniff around that one. He said he would if they became available - and I think they just have.

b12_simon Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Juan Pablo Angel recommended Villa to him...god I loved Angel, legend. Ironically I don't think it's an area we should be looking at as first priority really. That "there's only Juan Pablo Angel" chant really used to do my head in! Can't deny he was a fantastic player though.
allrovertheworld Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 That only works if you're Utd, Chelski et al. or if you're Jack Straw
Cocker Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Wonder what FFan thinks of this one - I never saw this coming - click
