If Rovers get to the point of employing HtC, they will no doubt take advice from a barrister on the likelihood of Chelsea seeking a High Court injunction to stop it and their ability to resist such an injunction.

Surely we can not run that risk, no matter how slight the chances of Chelsea being successful.

Dont be so harsh philipl, Hughes probably jumped ship at the right time the cracks were appearing early season for me, and in the end he got a few things wrong especially the substitutions in the final game at Brum. Resigning MaCarthy and Tugay

In football its probably very common to find this kind of thing happening at a football club with players wanting leave, i know your one of the most positively pro Rovers fans there is out there philipl, but John wouldnt post drivel without substance to back it up judging by the amount of times hes been on the board.

This is a great moment in time for Blackburn Rovers football club and as Nicko says possibly a step change in history so lets hope for a new dawn, and a fresh start for an eager manager looking to make his mark on British football....come on Laudrup.

I am beginning to warm to the idea of Laudrup. It may not be him but I would rather have Laudrup than Ten Cate

The thing i'm most worried about is that the interview is only slated for Wednesday! That is a ridiculously long time away in my opinion, and if we (ie: the rovers board) really do want him, that is no positive signal at all. In my reading, the board does not really want ten cate. Surely we'd have pushed the boat out by now if we did want him. Going by his cv, ten cate should be the first man that we speak to (probably alongside shearer), and i would only consider the rest if one of them dont meet the mark.

Me too Cookie.

I've been in the Advocaat camp all along. However my order of preference from the names currently linked are:-

Laudrup,

Ten Cate,

Martinez

Fat Sam

Ince

....

....

....

....

McClaren

He's in Barbados until Wednesday.

For what it is worth, I favour Sam or Laudrup.

Sam gets tainted badly on this messageboard, but he has a proven record with minimal funds. He also brought in some top quality players to Bolton. He would be a nice, safe option for us.

I have never liked Ince, but from what I have read and heard, he has changed a bit since becoming a manager. However, I just could not see some players enjoy working for him.

Which is why I made the point that being "owned" by lawyers means Rovers will know whether they would be wasting their time even before interviewing HtC. If the legal opinion is there is an unacceptable risk, the club will bin the interview before it happens.

Two interesting points nobody has picked up on:

- Nicko lists Steve McClaren amongst the people Rovers are likely to interview

- the piece on BFS after his Rovers interview lists Bilic amongst his competitors for the Rovers job.

On the other hand, Laudrup seems to have dropped out of the names being mentioned by the media in the last 48 hours.

So Martinez rules himself out,bfs indicates he has had no contact, shearer said no,ince waiting on an approach, mcclown's name doesnt seem mentioned much recently, ten cate is in barbados apparently.so my question is what exactly is going on? My order of preference would be Mancini, laudrup, advocaat, ten cate.that should be our short list, and NOT mcclaren, bfs, ince, shearer, martinez.im getting realy tired of all this deafening silence coming out of ewood.i would understand if we keeping a potential player under wraps, but a manager?especialy when a few of those are out of a job.

Sam does talk a good game doesn't he. I almost want him after reading that piece.

Without disrespecting John, I find it pretty unbelievable that a bloke goes out, gets bladdered, talks to a pundit of sorts and comes back saying 6 players want out and people start screaming DISGRACE, OUTRAGEOUS, WE'RE DOOMED etc.

If Laudrup and Bilic are genuine candidates I would be very excited, but if we are talking about end of next week, that may rule out Bilic. Though I suppose it hasn't stopped Scolari.

Thanks bats, thank god he's out of it. I would have been very unimpressed with him and I'm easily pleased. I cant believe the board are looking at Ince and were apparently looking at Martinez. Even BFS would be a much better appointment.

Regarding Iceman's last post, I totally understand where you're coming from. I fteverything was to be believed we'd be struggling to hire the janitor. I wish they would reveal at least something to keep the fans onside.

That's because the media doesn't have a clue.

From the way things are developing and from what nicko has said, we don't seem that much nearer ourselves.

Unless Martinez suddenly ruling himself out rather publicly is an indication that someone else already has it in the bag.

If not, it's rather worrying we hold no attraction to the Swansea manager, and that Shearer would seemingly rather manage Sheffield Wednesday.

Well just thought I'd throw my opinion into the mixer.

The new manager - Some people are getting a bit too excited by all this, when in reality not a lot is happening. What will be will be, and I trust JW will choose the right man for Blackburn Rovers once again. My personal order of preference would be:

1. Ten Cate

2. Laudrup

3. Allardyce

I sincerely hope it isn't McClaren, but I'm suspicious we'll end up with BFS. Now I have actually joined the anti-BFS Facebook group, but on refection I feel he could probably do a job for us. I feel sometimes he may be criticised for the football his teams play, but maybe this is more to do with the actual quality of players at his disposal. He had hardly any money to play with at Bolton and yes, whilst we aren't rich either, it is generally perceived that he will have a fair bit in the coffers at his disposal this summer. I know he spent a bit at Newcastle, but to be fair some of the signings he made were simply unlucky and the money spent was relatively similar to MH's spendings on risks (when looked at as a percentage of their respective transfer budgets). To summarise, there would be managers I would rather us have, but BFS could probably do a decent job.

The want-away players - well call me an optimist but I actually think our John is telling porkies. Not only do I believe the players are on holiday and haven't got any contact with each other to come up with this feeling of general unrest, but why would the Chelsea players know this anyway? I've said it before, I can see us recovering from the sale of 2 or 3 of our better players. I firmly believe Friedel, Cruz and Nelsen are committed to the club, whereas the likes of Bentley, Warnock and Pedersen would command millions. If those three players were sold I'd say even at a conservative estimate you're talking £25m easily. Then you're talking £35m ish (if we already had £Xm to spend plus £Xm from Hughes compensation) for our new manager to invest. That's nearly £9m a piece for four top quality players, and even with a manager such as Sam Allardyce (who's team once finished 5th by spending sod all) then you have got a potentially a stronger squad overall than we did last year - which will do me.

Relax people. We don't have indispensable players, we can look forward to a fresh batch with a new manager that COULD be better than Hughes, we are going to have money to spend regardless of what happens, AND our season-tickets are cheap as fking chips! The future's bright - the future's Blue and White.

i think we will have problems getting cate no matter how much we want him.

this is from my friend in greece. i have told him about the chelsea situation. (hes a fan of AEK Athens, Pana rival #1)

i really don't care if cate signed to pao or not, but it's weird that he has already spoke as a trainer of pao. by the way: the owner of pao was since 1979 the familly vardinogiannis. one of the richest familly in the world with oil companies and not only. this year they accepted some partners.

mr. pateras: one of the bigger ship owners in the world.

mr. giannakopoulos: he has the biggest pharmaceutical industrie in greece and already owner of pao basketball. everybody in europe knows what means pao in basketball.

and mr vgenopoulos: one word MIG.

JUST CHECK THIS OUT

now they are stronger than abramovich and they offered a mythical contract to cate.

ten Cate would know all of this, but why would he still be holding out for a move to Rovers? If he wanted to go to Pana he would have formally signed about 2 weeks ago.

Most of the players are away on holiday.

I am actually, for your information, well connected with the club, due to fact I am friends with one of our former manager's son.

Fact - some of our players are unsettled at the moment. Hardly a surprise.

Let's leave it at that.

Agreed. Also, and I know that I've already said it, it is rather worrying that we appear to have made no progress. We're fast approaching crunch-time for the appointment and we've yet to have serious interviews with several of the candidates. That really isn't good enough.

Well someone is convinced Ince is the man.

On Betfait a punter is requesting 1.98 (evens) and wants to bet just short of a grand

Question is, would you take a grand bet and give evens on Ince ?

Thought Top Cat would have been shorter this morning with the People in circulation

The maximum pay out for a case brought for unfair dismissal last time I checked, is 50K.

I don't think BFS's walked away with 2 weeks wages/50K after his dismissal after 6 months at Newcastle, nor indeed did Avram Grant from Chelsea ;)

I presume the thinking would be that it would make things difficult in employing future managers.
