Most of the players are away on holiday.

I am actually, for your information, well connected with the club, due to fact I am friends with one of our former manager's son.

Fact - some of our players are unsettled at the moment. Hardly a surprise.

Let's leave it at that.

John,

I have no reason to doubt what you say but it doesn't really matter if players are unsettled. They are contracted to play for Blackburn Rovers, not Mark Hughes or an incoming manager.

If the club decides it is best to allow a player to leave then it will do so otherwise the player stays until his contract ends. It is not the players decision in spite of so called "player power".

Having said that, there will inevitably be some comings and goings during the summer but lets not worry that we won't have a strong squad for next season because the likelihood is that we will.

"worst" case scenario playerwise is we lose two of our top players. for example bents and santa or bents and samba. we will not sell bents, santa and samba. or warnock samba and santa. no way. two regular first team players no more. JW wont allow it. that simple.

Chill, eddie.

We are a week away from the date that JW has said he would like to make (not would or will) the appointment and three weeks shy of the time it took Chelsea.

I will just re-post this link to the BFS interview in the People.

My reading of that is it is a half-heated attempt to woo the Rovers' fans and is really about putting BFS in the window for the next EPL vacancy.

From Sam's standpoint, Rovers appointing HtC would be a disaster as old, ugly and experienced BFS would be beaten by old, ugly and experienced HtC. Whereas if Rovers opt for Ince or Bilic (the names mentioned) he could point to a Rovers policy decision to appoint another young up-and-coming manager.

The only thing to be read into the Martinez withdrawal is that

1) Rovers have not approached any club to speak to their Manager, working through unemployed candidates first and

2) Martinez found himself unable to hold out Swansea pressure in the face of no approach coming from Rovers.

3) If Rovers ring up Marinez and tell him the job is his, of course he'd take it.

I would guess that Ince is now a rank outsider for the Rovers job as well. MK Dons were very uncompromising in their statement blocking Leicester. Rovers are interviewing, not appointment and Ince is hardly likely to jack in his current job for an interview.

The thing i'm most worried about is that the interview is only slated for Wednesday! That is a ridiculously long time away in my opinion, and if we (ie: the rovers board) really do want him, that is no positive signal at all. In my reading, the board does not really want ten cate. Surely we'd have pushed the boat out by now if we did want him. Going by his cv, ten cate should be the first man that we speak to (probably alongside shearer), and i would only consider the rest if one of them dont meet the mark.

How do you know that the interviewers are not on holiday and do not have other busines commitments? Also what is the rush?

1. We do not know who else may become publically available...... Bilic / Advocaat maybe?

2. there will be little action anyway, anywhere til the footy is over.

3. Why pay someone 25k pw or whatever simply to sit of a lilo?

Not arguing with your reasoning but the fact that Ince is now 1,75 (8/11) on Betfair makes him odds on as opposed to a rank outsider.

For what it is worth, I favour Sam or Laudrup.

Sam gets tainted badly on this messageboard, but he has a proven record with minimal funds. He also brought in some top quality players to Bolton. He would be a nice, safe option for us.

I have never liked Ince, but from what I have read and heard, he has changed a bit since becoming a manager. However, I just could not see some players enjoy working for him.

There really isx no comparison between the two's record can there?

Jesus wept !

Having been on this forum for a couple of years now my take on its members is that we have some really intelligent people who regularly contribute some fantastic views and thoughts.

This morning, I got up nice and early, did the garage painting thing, had a brew, did some washing, read the papers, walked the dog, washed the back down, watered the plants you, know the general Sunday morning thing and all this on Fathers Day. I can honestly say that whilst doing all those little things early in order to watch the cricket, I didnt give Rovers one thought.

Now with the cricket in full flow and England appearing to struggle, I thought I would have a look at how this thread had evolved from overnight.

There is some tripe been written when people are not using their noggins.

Sam has quite obviously been spoken to.

HTC is obviously still on holiday and potentially still a candidate.

Ince and Martinez plus Advocaat are all under contract and have clearly not been approached.

McClaren is still a candidate.

Laudrup was nowhere near the Dunkenhalgh over the weekend, in particular Friday as he was on Danish TV and Eurosport commentating on the Euros.

The players are scattered all over different parts of the world. Ooijer is in the Euros. Brett is away with the Ozzies, Bentley is in Ibiza with Frank Lampard, Brad is in the USA, Samba and Mccarthy are both in Africa, Nelsen is at home and doing remedial work at Brockhall, as is Derbyshire and Dunny, Roberts has turned down the chance to go to Cardiff and RSC is away in South America playing World Cup Football. Tugay was on Turkish TV commentating on the euros last week and is probably still there. So as Nicko mentioned, 6 players voicing unrest is total trash, there is not 6 of them together !

J Williams has said he is on track to appoint the manager by Friday of next week, I believe him.

People, lets take a wider view of the whole scenario instead of reading and believing everything that is said.

Use your noggins and think about the logistics of what is being typed, its UTTER SPECULATION thats all

If not, it's rather worrying we hold no attraction to the Swansea manager, and that Shearer would seemingly rather manage Sheffield Wednesday.

Makes absolute perfect sense to me if I take of the blue and white tinted specs. His ego wants a. Newcastle and b. England jobs imo. Failure is a huge black mark on anybody's cv, so to do a KK, Coppull or Roy Keane etc with a lower div team (sleeping giant even) with plenty of funding raises ones profile much higher that taking on an already overachieving Prem minnow. Both clubs being likely to move in opposite directions.

I'm sure someone posted earlier that Sam's "cheap" players commanded a fair amount in wages.......

Only the going rate though. He might be fat and ugly - but he's not daft, by a long chalk! :)

Fair enough.

If Rovers talk to BFS. HtC and WwB (Wally with the Brolly) assuming Laudrup is not a runner for some unknown reason and conclude none of them are ideal, which currently employed manager's employer would you ring first?

The Croatian Football Federation or MK Dons bearing in mind the compo to Croatia will be a great deal less and that CFC managed to contract Big Phil without Big Phil going anywhere near Stamford Bridge or Cobham in the past several weeks?

nicko did. But then thats simply the going rate for players who have run their contracts down and for whom no transfer fee would be required. Macmanaman and Campbell being high profile players who expolited this situation donkeys years ago to maximise their personal terms.

I really hope WwB doesn't get it. We are already almost completely ignored by the national press, if he got it, they probably would eat us up for being a small town club with a **** manager!! deary me, how humiliating.

On another note, is anyone else impressed with the current feeling amongst the football world that Rovers fans are very tight-knit. Im loving it, makes me proud

No to the first, yes according to nicko to the second.

JW said he hoped to be able to appoint by next week-end but there have been signals that the process could take longer.

1864's post gets the Grooby award on this thread. Bang on!

Here's another candidate if I may be so bold...........

Most of the shyte being posted originates on that Betfair site. Never been on it but the crap that comes on here originating from it makes it sound like the gambling version of 'Whacky races'.

Anyway, m oving on I'm getting a bit stalled with all this now so anybody BUT Ince and Maclaren will do for me. But my top 3 would be ...

Allardyce is the best qualified for out situation, Nicko tells us that HTC is quality and I like the cut of him, Bilic is exciting and might bring half the Croatian team and U21's with him cos I imagine he is held in God like esteem iover there. National player of repute, national manager and plays in a rock band he's got everything and no doubt a line of adoring women too.

Don't think it is that shocking that some of our players are unsettled - media reports alone recently would tell you that Bentley, Santa Cruz, Samba and Oiijer could be off for pastures new (if they get their way).

And those are only the players you know about.....

He might even get a gig at the Colne Blues Festival!
