surely its just a case of he's free at this moment in time and in the country, might as well give him an interview.....

yeah exactly. He took the time to apply for the job and show interest (even if it was unwanted interest), so the decent thing to do is atleast interview him about the job. He isnt going to get the job, i can assure you he wont, the board arnt stupid, they are all English and know what an idiot McClaren is, but he's managed premiership clubs and the national side and so in theory we have to interview him.

The interviews are decided totally by the appications people put in, and although hes been a total flop, McClaren has the kind of CV that we are looking for. He has to have an interview but he wont ge the job so stop worrying.

Neither does Mclaren!

You might as well give Carlton Palmer an interview, he's probably knocking around somewhere.

And now the purpose of the prayer room becomes clear ...

missed.....the....point!

when has calton palmer managed at international and in the premier league? yeah mcclaren is rubbish, i dont want him. but hes been there and is free. they might as well at least give him an interview.

I'd say the order is probably.

1) Ince

2) Allardyce

3) McClaren

4) Henk Ten Cate

5) Group of others

So McLaren is rubbish and has experience at being rubbish at the highest level; whereas Palmer is rubbish, and has only been rubbish at Championship level.

Sorry, what must I have been thinking? You're right of course, we must interview him since he has nothing better to do at the moment ('cos he's rubbish). It's a subtle distinction, I have to say.

from the boards point of view, they will be wanting to interview as many candidates as possible that have experience. just because you dont like him, dont take it personally.

can we keep some perspective here?

One of the great things about rovers, is the way we try to conduct our business behind closed doors.

Yet, we have countless fans on here spouting off about whether the board are doing their jobs properly.

To date, we know the board assembled a list of about 40 people, which they then narrowed down.

It contains a former England manager and also the manager who narrowly lost out to him for the job. There are also some young up and coming managers on the list.

Keep the faith people - let them at least do their job of having a full interview process and listening to the detailed plans of the managers that are going for the job.

Where they see the role of the acadamy. how far they think they can take the club. What type of football do they want to try and play. etc etc etc

Let them do their jobs without the mindless whinging on here - its so depressing reading it all!

Just have a feeling that the board are going to totally surprise us with this appointment. Possibly one of the names on the periphery of this thread will get it or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Truth of the matter is I'm pretty much non-plussed by all the names on the 'list'. I think we've gone from an opportunity to move forward to 'a safe pair of hands' and that's hardly getting the juices flowing for the new season.

That makes two of us, but only two so far. I don't think our new manager's name has been mentioned yet and fully expect JW to come up with the right man rather thanone of the obvious ones!

I'd agree with the shift in what we are looking for, but for me that is why it has to be Henk ten Cate. He is the only name on the main list that still has that x-factor about him. Bilic or Laudrup would be interesting, but their appointment appears unlikely at this point. I just feel that if we go for McClaren or Allardyce the board will have bottled it.

Hmmmmmm, ---

Ince. Don't like him as a person, never will. I just can't see him having the presence needed to move rovers forward. Proved nothing yet as a manager. What reason is there to think he'll do well as a manager in the Premier league? Can't think of any. Don't imagine that transfer targets will see him as a drawing power.

Henk Ten Cate. The only thing I know about him is what I've read on here, so thanks Nicko and Le Chuck. Your arguments weren't in vain. Is he really the man for us? Well his teams have apparently always played great football. So did Brian Kidds'. Heart of hearts, I couldn't imagine someone like him being around in 3 or 4 years time. It's all simply an impression I get.

McLaren. Is he really applying because he has suddenly taken a real interest in Blackburn Rovers, or is he simply looking for ANY opportunity to get back into the game. I know what the answer is to that.

Allardyce. Assuming that we know the full list of contenders, he would be my choice. I'd rather have Ferguson or Scolari, but that's fantasy land, we have to look at who's available. I've been slowly moving towards Big Sam for about a week now. I can't see anyone else on that list who will come into our club, at this moment in time, take the situation with Bentley and whoever else and lay down the law. and from that list of candidates, he comes across as having the hunger for management, and IMO, that's VITAL.

Hopefully JW will do his own thing and appoint the best candidate in his opinion. By that I mean I hope, if he sees Allardyce as the best man, that he takes no notice of the hostility against him on the internet. To do so would be folly. If the new manager comes in, be it Ten Cate or whoever, he'll be hounded by the fans who want him here now, if performance aren't up to scratch.

Totall agree Andy ! In JW we trust, but you know some people, never happy !

He'll choose the right man for the job and we'll get behind him as we alway's do.

This is a real possibility. If there really was 40 names on THE LIST then there is plenty of scope for a suprise name. Rovers could be doing a first class job of misinformation.

Are you serious about Laudrup? Apparently he was on Danish TV from Austria at the same time was dunking in the Dunk.

I hope to god they are as i am pretty low at the moment with regards to the Rovers.

Players wanting to leave, MH has taken loads of people with him, no manager (poor list in my opinion), no money.......argh, i will stop there......

Without wishing to harp on, some candidates you can eliminate at the CV stage.

Just because someone has experience, doesn't make them suitable. And just because they're available for interview, doesn't mean you have to interview them.

McLaren was so hopeless as England manager, it should be as clear as a bell that he's unsuitable. He was out-thought on many occasions. Similarly at Boro, where he spent a fortune, beating Bolton in a cup final and getting a lucky run to the UEFA final (where they got ripped to shreds by the first decent team they met) doesn't make him a good candidate. Speaking to him face-to-face is unlikely in my view to draw out any amazing hitherto-unseen insights into his ability as a manager.

I'm worried that my club will appoint a half-baked turnip as manager, I think I'm allowed to be concerned, sorry if that upsets you ...

so john basically the players would only be happy with sam allardyce or michael laudrup??

im guessing these chelsea players are close friends with a blackburn player and been told.

Why would any of our players know any more than the rest of us what exactly is going on? Do you really think that JW or anybody in the know keeps the players up to date with current thinking? Get real!
