Ronin Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Why would any of our players know any more than the rest of us what exactly is going on? Do you really think that JW or anybody in the know keeps the players up to date with current thinking? Get real! Plus with some players (mentioning no names) always ready to spout off to the media, it's probably best that JW keeps his news to himself!

dellinsert Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 it was pointed out to me in the pool, that the tanned guy was danish and managed a spanish team,as for macbrolly i just told him in no uncertian terms,he must bring 'the guy who ran on the pitch and threw his season ticket at him'as his no2 Surely pre-interview they'd be preparing rather than splashing about in a pool?
novella Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Without wishing to harp on, some candidates you can eliminate at the CV stage. Just because someone has experience, doesn't make them suitable. And just because they're available for interview, doesn't mean you have to interview them. McLaren was so hopeless as England manager, it should be as clear as a bell that he's unsuitable. He was out-thought on many occasions. Similarly at Boro, where he spent a fortune, beating Bolton in a cup final and getting a lucky run to the UEFA final (where they got ripped to shreds by the first decent team they met) doesn't make him a good candidate. Speaking to him face-to-face is unlikely in my view to draw out any amazing hitherto-unseen insights into his ability as a manager. I'm worried that my club will appoint a half-baked turnip as manager, I think I'm allowed to be concerned, sorry if that upsets you ... you havent upset me, i was just making the point that the board are going to interview people based on experience. whether or not he's been terrible in the past. we would be annoyed as fans if the board didnt exhaust all avenues available before making a choice.
dannyboy1206 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 how about waiting for bilic/van basten to get knocked out off euro 2008 I thought Van Basten was going to Ajax after the Euros
joey_big_nose Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I thought Van Basten was going to Ajax after the Euros And to be honest he is out of our league. Bilic is looking increasingly unattainable too with every Croat win.
broadsword Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Last time: - You have a pool of candidates - You eliminate those who would obviously not be any good (ie McLaren) to leave you with a shortlist - You interview those on the shortlist, and select the winning candidate. You do not compile a shortlist based solely on the amount of experience someone has (experience without performance indicates a lack of talent), nor do you compile the shortlist based on who might be knocking about that week and available for interview. I just don't think he should be on teh shortlist, it's a waste of time seeing him and God help us if he actually did get the gig ...

Does that make the board inadequate in your opinion?

I agree, for example novella should JW give me an interview just so he's "exhausting" every possibility? Time is money is a famous business mantre and as someone I respect as a good businessman JW will be wasting a lot of both by even entertaining the idea of McLaren.
The Prof. Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 You know rovers might just not appoint any of those interviewed or shortlisted - it happens here when candidates are just not up to it.

vintageadidas Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I think Nicko is out and about today! He will be hiding behind bushes and climbing trees. Good lad.

novella Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Turan now theres a talent and a half, 30 goals in 110 games for galatasaray, only 21, full international. would give pedersen a run for his money on the left.
RevidgeBlue Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 thank god macbrolly is only the 3rd fav, just been swimming with him in the dunk, but no sign off laudraup this morning Did he wear a transparent skull cap to protect his little tuft of hair? God help us if he is appointed. Hope the Allardyce facebookers are proud of their efforts if that happens.

Going to us (Newcastle) though Since our new owners came in, we've been good at keeping genuine news away from the British press, for instance the first anyone heard of one of our transfers was confirmation of the players departure on Villareal's Official Site. As such, we've found foreign sources more reliable, and the latest from Turkey and Russia is that we're the onlyplayers to make bids for Turan and Arshavin, and that our Arshavin bid has been accepted with Dennis Wise talking to him in Austria.
den Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 MK Dons owner still saying they have had no approach for Ince. That must mean he's not being interviewed then. Or am I being naieve in this modern world of pro football? Seriously, can't see how he's being interviewed with no approach being made to his club.
Hughesy Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Nicko said yesterday that he had been interviewed though - however with no approach surely Rovers wont of tapped him up!? Can we have a poll on who wants mclaren please or maybe a poll on who you would rather have - BFS, McLaren or Neither? Its ok the fans putting the board off BFS, but we really need to put the board off McLaren.
