Interesting stuff from Fergie regarding Giggs and Scholes and being slowly phased out.

This was touched on a month or so ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if your boss had a sniff around that one. He said he would if they became available - and I think they just have.

I presume there is nothing new with regards to the take over of Rovers - hence the thread being removed from this board.

I'd take Scholes, not Giggs, which means we'll get Giggs

Fully agree with Scholes (the thought of Scholes and a fully-fit Dunn in midfield!). I think both players tick the "improve the team" boxes. Giggs is still a great player and would provide that much-needed competition for MGP.

If we sign either I'll find a season ticket very hard to resist.

I can't believe that you mention Dunn in the same sentance as Scholes and Giggs....

Reading that article to me doesnt suggest that they could be up for sale at all.

Seeing as Ferguson is not a manager in the style Benitez and is not an obssesive tinkerer he will only end up playing them when other players are unfit or suspended. He is implying that the young lads are now good enough to take their places.

If a sensible offer comes in Fergie would probably discuss it with the players and let them decide if they want to be a bit part (what Fergie would prefer) or move on for more regular football elsewhere.

Absolutely. The manager did say before that he would be interested if they became available - and what has been said would certainly allow him to make a phone call. Fergie might even be in a good mood just now... ;)

As for 'offers' I suspect Man U would let them go after the service they have given. But it will be down to whether either player fancies the idea of leaving - and that is another story,

Pretty decent keeper.

Schwarzer? Not at all, he makes some decent stops but is pretty gaffe prone and when he has a bad game it really shows (UEFA Cup final). He'll only get more gaffe prone so I don't think Woy's done himself any favours there at all.

Scholes has always hinted he would like to end his career with Oldham Athletic, him being a mad keen Latics fan.

He still can...... in about 3 years time. :rover:

2 very very professional players. So refreshing in comparison to so many of the current lot. BUT beware as far as I am aware Fergie is not renowned for parting with anybody with any mileage at top level still in them. In fact quite the opposite.

Alan Smith and Nicky Butt obviously spring to mind; although Neville has done welll at Everton - still think 4.5 million is quite expensive for a full back.

Cole did alright for us.

Ferguson has released an entire team worth of players who have continued to have success at the (in some cases very) top level.

Kanchelskis, Ince, Hughes, Cole, Berg, Pallister, Van Nistelrooy, Stam, Poborsky, Howard etc etc etc.

Lots of cross currents in the press reports re Scholes and Giggs leaves me completely in the dark as to whether they might move on or not. I wonder if the great controller (RFW) sense of omnipotence might extend to bestowing some additional credence to Sparky's claims to the OT seat eventually by giving him the means to start winning things where he is now? A purely fanciful thought.

If we can get either or both we should. I'd have no problem with having a squad which had an age profile of AC Milan of two or three seasons ago!

As if the EPL is already having enough problems with the world's best young talent forcibly by-passing it, the rules for bringing in non-EU players are getting tougher still. Of course the top 4 can argue they are going for players who enhance the game almost by the fact they are signing them but again the pain will fall disproportionately on clubs like Rovers.

Rovers have Hoilet (a Canadian) and another youngster out on loan in Germany and both have had decent seasons but the club at the moment has no way of bringing them to Brockhall.

One phone call sorts the whole thing out... I will be surprised if it is not made at some stage soon.

Two top players, just wages, no fees, live locally, fill the ground, raise the profile.

Hmm. Can't see the appeal. ;)
