It's being reported that Chris Mort has left his post at Newcastle.........can we read anything into this regarding the Chris Ronnie potential take-over?

No

Chris Mort went on secondment to Newcastle for a year from his position at Freshfields. He's just going back to them. He's a bigwig in their leisure sector group.

OK, so we've got Blackburn Boro, Spurs, Liverpool, Bolton, Villa, Newcastle and Everton. Anymore guesses? I think I can name about 12 more teams who it could be.

I strongly suspect it's Newcastle, they've been linked with him for months.

Edit: Please hurry back Nicko - We've been reduced to nattering about some big, lanky horror-show of a striker moving elsewhere!

Ok I'll level with you although Nicko will probably tell me I am wrong.

The guy who told me this is the same guy that told me Fulham had sacked Lawrie Sanchez and John Collins was flying his way down from Scotland to take the job. We all know how that turned out. So the guy isn't the most reliable but here is what he told me.

When Newcastle were looking for a new manager, the went over to Spain to Santander to talk to manager Marcelino. Then after talking to Marcelino a Newcastle representative found his way to Valencia where they made tentative inquiries about Zigic. I am told that they have resparked their interest and have tabled a bid or have at least made serious inquiries about Zigic.

DSTM.

It's a swap, with Deidre Barlow going to Valencia

Valencia appear to be losing quite a few of their squad this summer. If they think Barlow is the answer, well the mind boggles. It would be like us getting Steve McClaren in as manager.
