Unrelated, and I don't know where to put it, so please feel free to move it around as the mods see fit.

Just for some casual reading... (to take our minds off the manager issue for a minute) I don't imagine the city fans will be too happy... and it gives a great indication of what Hughes has got himself into... http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/06/17...rt_30075749.php

From that article, the thoughts of some sad manc

"No one can believe that a chairman can just come in and change our badge," a Man City source was quoted as saying in the British tabloid. "What about the club's tradition? The fans aren't going to like this. Just because somebody owns the club does not give the right to change everything."

Yes it bloody does! Just ask Ffan

I am finding this a bit like torture. You know the announcement is going to come soon, and you know you are not going to like it.

Everytime I look at the supposed short-list, it makes me "cringe".

ps - wonder how Incey's got on with his coaching course today. Hopefully he will be upto scratch soon...

:(

Don't you find the prospect of JW flying to meet a candidate in Europe a little exciting?

Anybody know the situation with Gareth Barry?

Our director posts on the main big Villa fans forums, and he told us whats happening, know its a Blackburn thread but just answering his question.

We've set a price and we're definitely under no circumstances going to budge on it, Liverpool have bid 3 times but haven't met the price yet. The price hasn't been mentioned in public but it's either 18m or 20m and director says manager has been told by the board he is under no pressure to sell so we're holding out for a good deal. I thin it's fair (our stance not the price), 18m comfortably strengthens the team and being as we're losing our captain and someone that's just captained England...why not milk them for all their worth, after all the tapping up they've done.

To be honest mate, I think its about a 10% chance he will stay now, most of us don't want him to anymore either, he's on holiday at the moment I think and the rumour is someone else has been put on the transfer as O'Neill doesn't want to speak to Rafa at all.

I did intially, but depends who he was seeing I guess...

JW's comments today was as if he is expecting a fans backlash when the new manager is appointed.

Well it's a fair enough comment for a chairman to make but I don't believe for one second it won't be a consideration - attendances etc. But at the same time they want to make up their own mind, hence them interviewing McLaren.

But I can't think of anyone we'd object to who JW might want to fly to Europe to see...whereas I can think of a few choice names.

I really hope you get the 18m Tom - I hate the way Liverpool pinch players on the cheap and then inflate their values when selling them on - like Bellamy, Crouch etc.
Hang on i'll show you the quotes from the director if any of you are interested, being as we're in the same Barry/ Bentley boat.

1. I am sorry that the Barry saga continues but.....as I have said and MON reiterated....we are no longer a Club that sells at any price because a "big" Club comes courting. All of this will eventually come to an end and the result will be positive for the Villa which ever way it goes.
Liverpool knows EXACTLY what our price is...and has yet to hit it. We have not set a deadline as yet. Your assumption about disruption is way off. It may be a big deal for the media and for the fans but the Squad is not distracted...our Coaches will not let that happen. These are pros and they see this sort of thing often...maybe not with Villa but this is not a surprise to them.

I hope we get the money as well mate, I want them to have to pay over the odds if they're going to do what they do each year. I know theres a food chain and Liverpool are far higher than us on it, but if holding out for a huge fee is something we can still do then all of us should do it.

Anyone know Dunny, personally? (certain I've come across a few on here who do?)

...just someone on a Hull City forum yesterday said they'd seen him in Hull. I very much doubted it, but just thought I'd ask on the off chance, lol. I think the only reason he'd be looking at leaving now is if he knows the new manager is going to be either Allerdyce of McLaren

Correct! Some silly sods on here think we should accept peanuts for Bentley. Quite the opposite imo AFTER the cheeky barstewrads profited out of Bellamy whilst denying us and Prem crowds his abilities and disrupted Lucas Neills commitment. If you get a chance then pull their bloody necks out over Barry. After all the Lpool / Gerrard fuelled media talk you should be quite able to as having to back down will not sit well with the scouse hordes.

btw My mates a scouse red and when I said they were hoovering up all the players with contract clauses that they could get on the cheap, he said that it was a conscious decision by the Lpool board to exploit the new foc rules after Macmanaman stiffed em over his move to Real Madrid and on his way to mega bucks.

hi guys

has nicko re-surfaced yet? or has the mystery manager been unveiled? i have to admit i am a little intrigued as to why JW has had to fly out to me this guy rather than he fly to us, i suspect its because he may be occupied with other things? ;)

If betfair is anything like an accurate measure the top six candidates currently look like this:

1. Allardyce

2. Ince

3. Mcclaren

4. Laudrup

5. Ten Cate

6. Bilic

Suddenly the list looks better than it has done.
