BRFC1995 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Need a manager that has been there and done that as a player, not in awe of being around people with actual talent talking down to the manager....as that will always be McClowns problem

ABBEY Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I have asked myself that question a good few times lately... TWICE IN AS MANY MINUTES IT SEEMS
G Somerset Rover Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Trust Sky sports to get me excited earlier: "there are unconfirmed reports that it could be Laudrup that John Williams has gone to interview", and now by the sounds of it, he was interviewing somebody so bad that Nicko daren't mention him. Did JW have a few spare air miles to use up or something?
Hasta Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 So basically there has been no development today, nick, what are the chances of a manager being appointed by the end of the week. Whilst Nicko is excellent at letting us know what his sources say the club are doing, I do think sometimes that some members think he works for the club with some of the questions he gets asked. Nicko - have you got any ideas what the price of pies and a programme will be next year?
Alanf Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Don't fret...it's just Nickos' amusing scottish wit.....and he'll be on in a minute telling us that the last hour has just been a wind-up and that Billic is in the bag.....!! Well, I can dream..........
BRFC1995 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Zola....would be amazing, even just letting imagination wander with zola as manager is the tonic needed to get over the deprssion setting in with the p1ss poor quality of candidates, we should really be willing to pay compo and go for someone in a job abroard rather than settle for the dregs!
imy9 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 How can people compare Kidd with McClaren? McClaren took boro to a FA Cup semi in his first season. Took them to 7th (their highest EVER PL position) and a UEFA Cup final. The guy has a win to loss record of 38%, Hughes? 43%, so he had a poor time as England manager but as a club manager he would do well for us
Mc Love Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Ince, Allardyce or Maclaren... What an utterly depressing state of affairs. Add to that Bentley and seemingly half the squad wanting out and this summer has been the most depressing since our relegation season. Add to that probably horrible jerseys And the fact that we spent a good load of money going to see some rubbish ;) manager in Europe. I bet you Nicko is just saying that to see the reaction from people....i am thinking its a joke and JW went to see HTC or Laudrup
Saf Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 good point there can anyone get a list of signingsa tht mclaren mades during his time at boro, interesting to see how many succses and failure, and how well he spent money.
malk Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 What was Hughes' record when he arrived at Blackburn? Almost took Wales to a major finals... and? Did he have experience with spotting players, purchasing etc? We have: Ince: Got a club promoted and won a trophy. Did an impossible job by keeping Macca up. Fair enough and Ince would be ok for me. McClaren- Won the treble with United as No2, Boro won a trophy for first time in history AND got to UEFA Cup final, youth set up used well too. Spent a fair whack at 'boro and was deeply average at best in the league. The UEFA cup run was a complete fluke and, whilst fun for 'boro fans it shouldn't be used to reflect McClaren's prowess. Carling cup win is a feather in his cap but again, are a couple of cup runs enough to indicate he is a good manager. BFS- the man took Bolton to PL, then kept them in the top 8 on a shoe string budget, he left them in FIFTH place and took them to a final. His league finishes were good but can we once and for all get rid of this shoe string budget rubbish. He spent a fortune on wages and probably had a similar budget to us. Didn't he drop 8 million quid on Anelka? Still, his league performance means he shouldn't be dismissed out of hand... except for his potentially being bent... and his rubbish football. Cate- Won lots of trophies as a no2, won titles in Holland and plays good football. Bit of an unknown for me, if the reports about his influence at Barca and Chelsea are true he could be very good. I'm not normally inclined to believe such things but his moving from Ajax to a no.2 role at Chelsea, combined with Grant's inexperience, leads me to believe he was offered a substantial role. How is the above a depressing list when you compare what we got in Hughes? Aside from BFS, I am happy with any of the above. It's not depressing but when exciting names like Bilic and Laudrup don't even seem to have been considered it must make you scratch your head. For me, even putting aside my personal dislike for Allardyce, him and McClaren are known to be average and should therefore be discounted. Ince and Ten Cate are riskier propositions but at least have the potential to be great so should be viewed more favourably. Still, as I've only just mentioned, I hope there's a bloody good reason why Laudrup and Bilic haven't been sounded out as they look to be the stand out candidates to me.
promoted2001 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I dont care who get the job now. Ince, Big Fat Sam, McClaren... Sounds like a party invite that i'd turn down. Just pick one out a hat and be done with it!
novella Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 with everyone on holiday at this time of year, i would love the board to take another week and see what happens in europe first. they probably wont though.
Hi Mack Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Trust Sky sports to get me excited earlier: "there are unconfirmed reports that it could be Laudrup that John Williams has gone to interview", and now by the sounds of it, he was interviewing somebody so bad that Nicko daren't mention him. Did JW have a few spare air miles to use up or something? Ha no joke i sent an email to SSN saying JW was meeting laudrup just to see how easy they are! what time did you see it i sent it at about 4! That is bad if its true!
my_name_is_Earl Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I do appreciate the information that Nicko provides as Im sure most of us do. Looking back through this search, he has provided some information that has come true as everybody can clearly see. So Nicko, barring some serious wumming, I honestly dont think this candidate who is so depressing makes any difference to the current state of affairs. We are unfortunately looking at a very poor list of candidates and therefore my argument is that if you did reveal such a 'ghastly' candidate, at least the fans could try and warm up to McClaren and BFS. If Nicko's not wumming, I'm thinking Christian Gross
brfcshabba Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 If Nicko's not wumming, I'm thinking Christian Gross Don't be daft
John Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Just to make you feel worse: At least someone is excited and seems to be enjoying themselves.....
my_name_is_Earl Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Don't be daft Thats the only name I can think of outside of the UK who would be terrible and interested in the post. Does anybody have any other names that could seriously have been considered?
cn_barlow Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 maccaronne£8.5m, christie.....fantastic In fairness, Maccaronne was the hottest prospect in European football at the time. Its always a risk bringing foreigners in and it didnt pay off

That "bloody good reason" would be cold, hard cash. The parsimony of the trust/board is killing the club.
