I liked Souey. I know there were loads of bad issues esp. before he left but you cant deny that our time with him at the helm was exciting?! We had Duff, a fit Dunn, Cole etc. and we won a piece of silverware. Glad to see the back of him eventually but at least he was interesting to watch in a press conference rather than robot Hughes. All Souey ever wanted is for the fans to enjoy their pints after the game....LEGEND!!!!

Just heard Shoot magazine has shut...a moment's silence please.

I blame the internet.

Why dont some of you wait until the club makes an announcement ?

May as well. 400 odd pages of rumour, brilliant advise, and occasional sarcasm down the drain I reckon, I can't see the Board reading this to be honest.

I mean you turn your back and there's another 10 pages to read of "Where's nicko?", "What's he doing now?" - he's probably trying to save his marriage. 900 odd posts in this thread.

I'd be surprised if it's anyone other than Big Sam.

Eddie - why do we look a "third rate outfit right now"? I thought you of all people would be pleased Hughes has left? Who do you suggest we appoint from the seemingly bottomless well of managerial talent available to us? Of course it's probably that obvious to you you'd have someone in two weeks ago.

Always a 'Match' man myself.Better posters.

God I had one of Neil Webb (who is now a post man) for some reason.

It wasn't Neil Webb JW was going to see was it? Just staying on that topic I still don't see why JW has flown out to see another candidate. Most job interviews you go to see the potential employer. Unless you really can't make it for some reason, like you are leading your nation to a quarter final in a football festival.

What I cant fathom is why are we only attracting such dull names. We finished seventh in the EPL last season, we have a good squad and we are potentially going to be bought out to compete at the highest level. I cant understand how any manager who is worth his pennies could not be interested in this job. Hughesy never completed the job, it is perfectly set up for someone to make a name for themselves............

Btw, if Ince, BFS and McClown are reading this, it doesn't apply to you :D

Maybe Nicko cant reveal the name, because he would expose his mole.

When misinforming, an old trick is to feed different false stories to different people.

When the falsehoods are eventually revealed, the trail of tretchery[sp] can be traced.

Maybe he's mad becaues he realises this

McClaren and Allardyce were the two leading candidates for the England job not so long ago - and Paul Ince is one of the highest rated young managers in English football.

Of course Ince won't get the job because he's black - or that is the line he'll be using when he doesn't get it anyway

The best thing about getting Allardyce in is that he won't see us as a stepping stone.

If Big Sam gets the job - and does well - I imagine this would be his last job.

Get someone like Laudrup, Bilic, Shearer or Ince - and they'd be gone in 12-18 months if they did well.

Sam has already performed miracles with a club of our size. How anyone can say he's a disaster waiting to happen is beyond me.

I'm not unhappy with him being gone.

Had I had a say in matters then serious interviews would have happened at least last week. We're losing time, we're being made to look foolish.

Nicko,in all seriousness what is the hold up in appointing a new manager?if jw,wants a local guy,he would appoint one.it doesnt make any sense to fly all over, having perhaps already decided on either bfs, mcclaren or ince.

Are you not answering your own question there?

Obviously the hold up is because JW isn't sure if the people he's interviewed are the best people for the job. Like any job, JW needs to interview everyone available so he's sure who the best candidate is. It's no good appointing Allardyce on the back of a nice powerpoint presentation and ending the search there when it turns out Laudrup wants the job, is mad keen on the idea of managing Rovers and has loads of great ideas.

Rovers are also in a decent position in that most of the managers, with the possible exception of Ten Cate, are probably prepared to wait for an answer as well.

However we have to face facts that it may well be a case of, after Williams has spoke to everyone, Big Sam or Ince is the best person available who is willing to work under the contraints Rovers have to operate under.

On a personal note, I've never like McClaren. Just thought he was way too weak and pally pally with his players for me. BFS did a good job at Bolton but was openly exposed at NUFC even if it wasn't all his fault, his ability to take some of the blame makes me question his attitude and Ince doesn't even have any qualifications. I know they dont necessarily mean anything but the license must be there for a reason. Besides which, I don't think either of these three will provide a highly respected backroom team. With this in mind, I can't see how we can attract decent enough players to keep us in the top ten.

I will openly support whoever gets the job as ive already mentioned previously but i am genuinely concerned by the lack of top drawer european managers who seem to have passed the opportunity to manage in the current 'best league in the world' according to some.

I'm afraid that camp are not talking to me right now. Something to do with a little bit of old Glasgwegian advice about 'get off your ****ing fat ***** and sort it out ya ****** bam ye.'

I can't understand why the line went dead... ;)

I will check again tomorrow. Which, after all, is Wednesday.

Part of me hopes his agent can't sort out the Chelsea pay-off and won't even get to Greece.

But, then again, I'm a bad pig.

Apologies if I've misunderstood this, but are you saying that you have been trying to persuade Ten Cate's agent to push his client for the Rovers job?

Eddie - why do we look a "third rate outfit right now"?

I would say "third rate" is a little generous to describe the names being linked with the manager's post.

FORTY applicants, and the unholy trinity of BFFS, McClaren and Ince are the front-runners?!? I genuinely believe "big time" managers would be interested in the post; what really worries me is that the board may have decided against following up their interest with interviews...

It makes me chuckle that we have on the one hand a lot of people saying that the shortlist is really poor, then on the other that people like Laudrup wouldn't even consider coming to Blackburn.

Who exactly do we think should be applying for our job?

I'll just be glad when the search is over and the new season starts. I have faith in JW to pick the best who he and board thinks will be the one to carry on where Hughes left off and potentially take us forward. Whether its BFS, McLaren, Ince or whoever, as long as they're a Rover they'll have my support.

Roll on August.

Posted that, on the official board, at the beginning of this saga. However, the latest makes me feel that he may actually be in the frame

Really think that Nicko missed a trick be not leaking this "new man" at around 9pm tonight just to see how many papers would carry it in the morning and if SSN would run with it ;)

Well lets just say if we had over forty names and three of the best include Ince, BFS and McClown then you do wonder who number forty was on that list, I mean lets be honest here, we're not the dingles for christ sake!

Its very true, what with the list of candidates that everyone has such open access to we're a total laughing stock. That list isnt fit for a Championship side, let alone a top half Premiership side. The board have made some funny old decisions as to the final candidates, i just hope they wind their necks in and make the fans and club proud.

At the moment i'm keeping me head down as a Rovers fan, this whole situation has made me an easy target for banter.

It's virtually the same shortlist England had a few years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The list of candidates is probably better than last time the Rovers job was available - and we did pretty damn well picking a manager then!
