[Archived] Nicko's Thread Part 3

I see they've also put another £3,000 up behind it at bigger prices. Someone obviously wants £7,000 on at 7/4

Hmmm.........................

If it does end up being Allardyce, I won't be that unhappy but can't help thinking that we've wasted two weeks and that the whole selection process has been a bit of a charade.

We were told Sam was JW's clear choice when Hughes left and he was 1/3 with the bookies back then.

Yes but a good reason for that delay might well have been the reaction from some of the fans to the rumour of his being the favourite. That might well have been the a reason for Williams to step back and take time over it.

It looks like it will either be Ince or BFS now unless someone else flies in off the radar.

This doesn't make any sense. At a critical time for the club the chairman flies out to speak to a candidate who in Nicko's eyes is so bad it's not even worth mentioning? I'm not sure I'm buying that. Surely, if he was such a stinker he would be presently unemployed and/or have no grapes about flying over here to have an interview. Beggars can't be choosers (though our current search for a manager might prove that wrong).

The only countenance to that would be that it's someone currently involved in the Euro's but I'm not sure who there would qualify as "stinker" either. After all, they've *all* done a better job than McClaren in actually getting there.

I think either;-

a ) JW has given Nicko and is chums the proper run around and has interviewed a decent candidate which nobody knows about (I can't see why he'd leave the UK otherwise). Remember, even Nicko was convinced Dowie was getting the job last time.

or

b ) It's perfectly feasible given that the only people reporting this news about JW leaving today are sources linked/suspected of pulling Nicko's information off of here and this is a deliberate bum-steer. Frankly, I wouldn't blame him either.

John Williams has done a top job for this club since he's been here and is held in the highest regard. We've been excellent in that period in doing business on the quiet. Until I see concrete evidence he's undermined that good form by appointing a complete plank I see no reason to not believe he won't deliver for us again.

Well said. In Williams we trust.

The only reason that JW should of gone to Europe was to interview a candidate who is part of the Euros.

Anyone else should have to come to us, otherwise straight from the off they dont have the desire to be our new boss. They have to put the effort in.

I think Rovers are being very clever as usual and not giving the media anything - as normal.

A good reason to reconsider altogether maybe, but just delaying the appointment a week or two won't change anyone's opinions significantly.

Thus far, Rovers have been looking at people who applied- even Shearer had applied apparently.

Other clubs take the approach of deciding whom they would like and approach them.

If the current trawl does not work, I am sure Rovers have a plan B and will go direct to the employers of someone they want and ask to talk.

My gut feel is that the Euros are getting in the way one way or another.

No but perhaps the delay was to see if there was anybody else up to the job. From looking at the list of those linked...there are not too many other choices meaning the possibility of then having to go back to square one.

The club seemed to be quite adamant last time that Hughes was the man they wanted. It doesn´t seem to be like that this time...unless they did think that about BFS and have had to change their mind due to all the negativity.

I think a lot of people have talked with JW because he makes himself so accessible and have formed their own views about him- I'd say he is extremely professional and desperate to get the very best for the Rovers.

But he is one of 6 Directors. Anyone know the characters and personalities of the other five?

For instance, it has occurred to me that because of Rob Coar's postion within the FA, it would have been almost impossible for Rovers not to have met Steve McClaren for political/ good faith reasons.

I might be completely wrong in this guess but I could imagine Rob Coar favouring an English candidate.

I would be amazed if it wasn't Billic or Laudrup that JW flew out to speak to. The candidate is obviously of a sufficient calibre that we would go out of our way to incorporate him, and as has been mentioned, it appears that Nicko realises this and for the good of the all of us, he is keeping it to himself.

Billic and Laudrup have BOTH come in significantly on betfair, and I would say that is were the smart money is at the moment.

Not given up on Henk yet.

Still being supported on Betfair and as far as we know from Nicko, it is not yet a dead duck.

Here's hoping the 'wednesday interview' goes ahead.

Is that the only place he is still on?? Paddypower have forgotten about him.

I dont think Boylesports ever took bets on next bburn manager...fecking sunderland ######.

Bet 365 have him at 14/1 but you can get 22/1 on Betfair

PaddyPower think he is out of the running
