Exactly. Apply it.

Ten Cate put in for the job, got an interview date and the club - the club to repeat - decided not to take on that battle. Ten Cate also has to answer for that, so I am not blaming anyone specifically.

However if some agents I could think of had been in charge of the operation Ten Cate would be in the dug-out at Ewood being photographed right now.

Sadly, that was not the case.

"Look at what you could have won."

God this is depressing.

I see you've cunningly swerved this question a few times now Nicko...

- To the best of your knowledge, was the Switzerland interviewee part of a management team in Euro 2008, or an analyst/pundit with the media?

Common sense is the last thing being applied in this thread. If it was people would ahve realised a long time ago that Ten Cate was never in the running.

I repeat Nicko - tell us all why you were pushing him so hard.

Oh, and apologise. ;)

You say Williams was in Switzerland on tuesday, can you confirm if Steve Maclaren was in Switzerland on Tuesday aswell.

Cheers nicko.

No, McClaren met Blackburn Rovers official at the Manchester Airport Hilton hotel between the hours of 10 and 11.30 on Monday morning.

At the same time a sweaty Scottish hack was driving round Blackburn's finest hotels, missing his target, and could not even get a pint in Hordens.

Did I miss anything out of that? Apart from McClaren...

May aswell give Newell the job!! Everyone seemed more happy about his coming than Shearer...

He did an amazing job at Luton untill the club, behind his back sold literally the whole team.

Would love to see Newell involved in some capacity if my worst fears are confirmed, it would definitely help to soften a mighty blow.

Did he sit on the end of the bed during the interview or in it. Cheers Nicko.

I pushed him very hard because I felt he was a great candidate. I 'declared' for him when Shearer said no.

I was overjoyed when he got an interview time and date...and disappointed that it could not be seen through.

You may recall that I kept Ten Cate's name secret until he blabbed about the approach to de Telegraaf - or weren't you watching at that point?

Forgive me for pushing a few people along to make this happen, I feel it is better than any alternative I curently see.

On second thoughts, don't.

Unfortunately you only find out about people when the pressure is on. Shearer proved a letdown and Ten Cate appears to put money before anything else. I think the club could have solved that snag, but that's not down to me.

You may note that several other learned newspapers caught up with the fact that Ten Cate had NOT signed for Panthinaikos when you said he had.

I don't mind you getting it wrong, but I do object to inferring something else - possibly criminal - instead when I was busting my buns on this particular issue.

That's good thinking.

:tu:

I still think Newell is a potential manager in waiting.

One problem maybe with Newell being back in management could be that after him outing agents and dodgy deals, would there be any agents willing to work with him, as he didn't really have much support from people in the game after that?

to be honest Mcclaren could bring the entire Premiership winning squad and it still wouldn't stop us being the laughing stock of the nation. This guy is so despised that if he won the league with us (and of course I know it's not possible) we'd still be the laughing stock of the nation. Fans here might be happy but who wants to be the club that gave him another chance?

But hopefully, he'd be dealing with more high profile and 'respected' agents...(maybe, i dont know, maybe they're less dodgy than lower league ones)

We all have our opinions on who should and should not be the next Rovers manager.

However, once the vacancy is filled EVERYONE must give the new manager their FULL support. It could be a tough season if we have people booing our new manager.

BRFC.

It's going to be a tough season anyway and i won't boo but if it's you know who I won't be there.

Spin the clock back a year...David Bentley was booed everywhere for turning down England under-21s. He now plays for England is seemingly wanted by the good and the great.

Spin the clock back two years...Ronaldo could NEVER play in England again because he was so hated for getting Rooney sent off. He has won Player of the Year awards galore and is about to become either the best-paid or most expensive player in the world.

Spin the clock back ten years...David Beckham could NEVER walk the streets after being sent off. He won 100 caps and was England skipper for most of the time.

People forget.

I never said he'd signed for Pana, I simply quoted a number of news stories who said he had.

And I'm not wrong.
