b12_simon Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Out of a shortlist of 3? If it's 3: Ince, BFS and McClown then was JW nipping over for some Toblerone?

nicko Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I believe - only believe as I have it from one source that's all - that Rovers met Leo Beenhakker, the veteran Dutchman who is in charge of Poland. His team went out on Monday night. He has a good CV but is older than you might want. DON'T bet on this, it may not be right but I think it is. Anyway, I can't believe he would get the job. The only interest I have in this is to see how many times it appears in other outlets. I wasn't going to say, but it stops guessing about wrong names. That builds up unnecessary optimism. There is and will not be a change in Shearer's stance. And it's probably better that way. By the way, David O'Leary applied too...I don't know at what stage he was 'cut.'
b12_simon Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Cool. I want that job. Not just the media. Lots of companies have staff who do nothing but read this site
Zulu Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Laudrup's odds are shortening, I wonder if he is a pundit for Danish TV ? I do hope you're right Danny. I would love to take some money off Paddy Power for a change! I still reckon it's between Sam and Incey though.
Ronin Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 By the way, David O'Leary applied too...I don't know at what stage he was 'cut.' Cut from the list? Well, that's good news for a start.

F***n wasting money on a flight for a bloody grandad!!! Stupid!
dellinsert Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I believe - only believe as I have it from one source that's all - that Rovers met Leo Beenhakker I was right!!! Woohoo, must be the first one I've guessed.
herbergeehh Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 By the way, David O'Leary applied too...I don't know at what stage he was 'cut.' JW: Okay, I'll just get your name and number, Mr. What did you say your name was? DOL: David O'Leary ......

He's to the top of the queue as far as I'm concerned, and (most importantly) another barrier between BFFS, McClaren and the manager's office!
RevidgeBlue Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 By the way, David O'Leary applied too...I don't know at what stage he was 'cut.' Probably as soon as they recognised the writing on the outside of the envelope. If you're right about Beenhakker, you're also right about what a poor name it was. Why on earth bother trailing out there to interview him?
Bobby G Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Beenhakker has a CV second to none or have people forgotten his success with Ajax, Real Madrid, etc...? Granted its been a while! But he is known for his good football...
herbergeehh Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 From Beenhakker's Wiki site: "Because he has been active in Spanish football he has the nickname "Don Leo". He is famous for his fondness of cigars and his dry humor." Just when I thought I was out....
Eddie Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 JW: Okay, I'll just get your name and number, Mr. What did you say your name was? DOL: David O'Leary ...... JW: So that's T..W..A...

Maybe JW has a "dream team" of Beenhakker and Ince in mind?
Eddie Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 From Beenhakker's Wiki site: "Because he has been active in Spanish football he has the nickname "Don Leo". He is famous for his fondness of cigars and his dry humor." Just when I thought I was out.... We'd have to run out to the Godfather music. His age makes him an interesting one, maybe if we appointed him along with a younger candidate? I'm not as against him as I am some of the other names.
USABlue Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Wake up guys, it is obviously a manager currently still involved in the Euros- no way would Gross do anything but fly to see the Rovers if he were interested as he'd have no excuse. I am afraid it is Dominech for nicko to be so underwhelmed. Mmmm, wondering if it is Gross. nicko said the name was really bad well here Gross can be used as bad or disgusting, a play on word by nicko the riddler perhaps???
deftangel Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I can't believe we'd fly out to talk to Beenhakker at this stage. Poland were knocked out Monday, there's no reason, if genuinely interested he couldn't get to us and if he is behind the other three candidates, I don't see why we'd waste our time making the effort. If Nicko's not even sure who we talked to yesterday then basically we nor anyone else have no idea either which fits in pretty well with how our previous business has been conducted.
joey_big_nose Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Maybe JW has a "dream team" of Beenhakker and Ince in mind? You don't put two managers who don't even know each other in charge of a team!
AggyBlue Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Not just the media. Lots of companies have staff who do nothing but read this site I'm on gardening leave but it's raining
A cup of beans Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Leo Beenhakker! if (AND IT IS A BIG IF!/ AS NIKO INFERS ) that's true, JW has lost all credabilty, with me (has dwindled by him even granting interviews with FAT SAM and steve mcc). i'd take ince over them! I'm still clinging to the hope that the media are being thrown off the scent, so rovers can concentrate on credible candidates. fingers crossed!
dellinsert Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Beenhakker is not a bad option. When will his name appear on betfair I'd be more than happy with him.
jny Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Why can't we just have a good manager (say laudrup), i mean for gods sake we finished 7th in arguably the top league in the world. Rather than a green haired goblin (beenhaker), a wally with a brolly or a wannabe eastenders character (BFS)
