One hell of an important time in Hughes's career if this is indeed the case. The chance to manage at the very top with all the wealth in the world only comes by very rarely. Don't want to see him leave but good luck to him in his efforts to land the big one...... as long as our compensation package is in context.

Because of his rolling contract I doubt that our compensation package would be huge.

Surely he would make more sense for Roman though? Big name, European experience, more recent Chelsea connections...

I would take Sparky ahead of the Diddy Man any day of the week.

Your problem is if the Chelsea branch of the Mark Hughes supporters club persuade Roman that he is the man. And that is what they are trying to do.

It comes to Roman in the end, but he was persauded to axe his mate Grant, so he is not the great dictator people might imagine, He listens - and that may be very bad news for you.

Been browsing some Chelsea forums to try and check out the opinion of the fans on who they want to see.

Hughes seems to be winning in terms of fan forum polls and general fan comments on who the next manager should be.

This could end up being a pivotal point in both our short and long term future, losing our most creative player far more importantly our manager/backroom staff could lead up to an absolute disaster.

Another point that that could in my view be affected by the uncertainty of our manager's future is a possible takeover. We will lose a great deal of attraction from investors if Hughes goes.

Let's be serious, so far as this coming season's transfer activity is concerned there is no takeover. Nothing will happen in time for the summer window and the winter window is likely simply to be an opportunity to buy over-hyped dross.

As for backroom staff, Hughes would be suicidally mad not to take his team with him given the history at Stamford Bridge. The fratricidal in-fighting there already has all the incumbents more than half out of the door so the vacancies virtually exist!

Exactly Nicko, Abramovich listens and there are no adequate glamour puss candidates for the job either. In my view Sparky is now the favourite to get it.

its mancini v hughes....

Who's to say he'll want Mancini or that it's so clear cut? He wants more entertaining football, Mancini doesn't provide that kind of football. Mancini is a poor mans Mourinho.

As a neutral I think Hughes' team this season plays quite good football, and he's good at managing difficult characters, I think he handled the McCarthy situation well. I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea went for Hughes. Their fans wouldn't be against it either as his an ex player.

Do we lose our backroom staff? Surely if Hughes goes then Bowen has to be one of the front-runners for the job? I'm not sure if he'd be my first choice, but he'd have to be looked at.

First team coach: Eddie Niedzwiecki

Goalkeeping coach: Kevin Hitchcock

Are both ex Chelsea players.

It all depends if Bowen sees himself as a Manager or an Assistant Manager. Wasn't Bowen linked to the Norwich job a while back?

Bentley can go for me, 15 million is plenty of cash to be able to replace him with and then some.

Hughes to Chelsea seems to be gathering pace and you can't blame them for taking him. I'm sure he'll jump at the chance if offered the job so it looks like Big Sam to Ewood before the start of next season........ :(

Are you sure Abro was persuaded - or did he want to get rid of Grant? It was quite obvious that, whilst Grant did a so-so job of succeeding Mourinho, he was not a great manager capable of uniting his team to play melliflous football.

Abro knows what he wants andI am convinced that Abramovich wanted to get rid of Grant, friend or not.

So as things stand right now, Blackburn Rovers' summer is on the point of completely falling apart.

I wouldn't put it like that, things have been exceptionally quiet as regards us being linked to any quality players, so there's not really any good work to be undone as it were. Things haven't even got off the ground yet.

Rumours of Bentley's probable departure can hardly come as any surprise, it's been obvious he has been eyeing the exit door ever since he penned that Sun article claiming that can't fully focus for games not directly affecting the Championship etc. I think by his standards he was poor for us last season and I'm fairly indifferent to him leaving for the right sort of money. The main worry is as to whether the other players are unsettled by his departure.

The speculation involving Hughes is a different matter entirely. Initially I would have thought Roman would have wanted a more "glamorous" appointment but I bet if he canvassed the opinion of footballing men within the game Hughes would figure prominently. Part of me would be pleased for Sparky if he landed one of the top three or four jobs in world football, in many ways he deserves it after being starved of funding by the owners here. The only downside to the Chelsea job is that it will surely lead to the sack inside a five or six year period, but any incumbent should be able to leave with a number of honours to bolster their CV and with their bank balance swollen considerably.

Come on Peter and Roman - Sven is available. You know it makes sense................................

Enough play time for me- meetings to go to!

Three pointers

- sending Kenyon up to collect the losers medals in Moscow is an indication that Kenyon's star is in a favourable position within the Roman cabinet so if as seems likely, Kenyon is arguing for Hughes or Keane, he will carry some weight.

- Hughes is probably about the 20th= highest paid manager in the football world on his current Rovers package. There will be no shortage of very good Managers letting John Williams know they could be interested were there to be a vacancy at Ewood and the field will include contenders from outside the UK.

- the Chelsea job is a much better one than the Man U job.

Five or six years is a lot of time in today's football.

A thought: If Hughes goes, do you think our owners would give the new manager more to spend than Sparky has in his transfer kitty this summer?

Abro knows what he wants andI am convinced that Abramovich wanted to get rid of Grant, friend or not.

Abramovich told Grant in Moscow last week that he was safe. A few days later, after the 'hawks' at the club told him he had to get rid he followed their advice.

Remember, this guy is no mug. He does listen and then acts fast and hard.

The problem here is that he is being pushed to go for Sparky by the same people who wanted Grant out.

And as Abramovich can't find a sexy name he will probably agree...

I know one very live front runner dropped out yesterday. It's not even in the papers. So the field is officially very small now.
