I cant believe people would want Bowen in charge if Hughes left, appointing the departing managers assistant never works.

agree with that!

Whilst my immediate thought about Shearer is a no no no, the interesting thing would be who he would get in his backroom team. He's still an England legend afterall, so the players would respect him, as he's been there and done it as a player.

If he could pull together an amazing backroom team, he might not be so bad!

As for Big Sam - i'd actually be quite happy with him too. He performed wonders at Bolton on a complete shoe string budget and lets be honest - we don't have a whole lot more. He made a few mistakes at Newcastle, but show me a manager who hasn't. He embraces all the new techniques in the game his only possible criticism is his use of the long ball tactic at Bolton.

But wasn't this down to the players he had available to him?

Would Hughes want to go to a team where the owner (allegedly) picks the team by fax?

Wouldn't that gig be more suitable for a continental manager, used to political interference?

Nothing's happened yet (admittedly) but it's the not knowing that's difficult.

Nicko - Michael Landrup

Resigned earlier this month from Getafe after doing so well and has been linked with some big jobs. Is he in the run and if not what about him as a replacement because Getafe are like us on a shoestring budget and i thought he did well there.

He's already turned it down once

It was more of a chance to move into management at a later date towards the end of his career. At the time he was at the peak of his playing prowess and it must have seemed a very long way off. Completely different situation now when he could walk into a post immediately.

I wouldn't want Shearer. I don't think he likes us, he's been slow with his coaching badges and I don't think he's that clued up on the game.

I'd be going for Ince, Advocaat or Van Gaal.

Anyone who doubts Hughes would turn down Chelsea must need their head checking...

Is that not part of the unwritten job description when you're working for a fabulously wealthy individual?

I remember reading Uncle Jack used to have a sign on his desk saying something like

"Management rules"

1) The boss is always right

2) Please refer to rule number one!

:)

Yeah, I think that was in the book "The Club that Jack Built", I'm sure.

Kenny wanted to sign Geoff Thomas, but Jack said "no". So it's not always a bad thing. :-)

Whether Jack told Kenny what team to pick I don't know. But obviously the decision to go with the title-winning team the following year was enforced on Kenny.

But would Jack have been as meddlesome as Abramovic reportedly is now?

What chance alan shearer for rovers manager?

I'd wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, first time Newcastle come calling he'll be away AGAIN..........and I thought I was over that

Big Sam ticks all the boxes at the moment, proven record on a limited budget......

Yep.

He's also a big name, so it would probably satisfy are current playing staff and he'd be able to bring new players in. He failed at Newcastle (who hasn't?), but what he did at Bolton was very impressive.

I would hope after the very good experience with Hughes we would go for a up and coming manager with a great understanding of the game, new ideas and who possesses real authority.

Tony Adams would seem to me to tick all the boxes although he hasn't had any actual managerial experience yet (although working alongside Redknapp will have given him a good introduction). He would certainly give it his all and be a bit imaginative.

Allerdyce seems to me a bit tired of the game and out of ideas. He pulled of some amazing deals at Bolton, and did extraordinarily well on the budget, but we would be looking at the whole shape of the team changing. Lots of players wouldn't want to play for him due to his reputation as well. Every manager in the league knows how he sets up a team, so it would not be rocket science for them to pick up on the weaknesses.

I could see big sam coming in a bit jaded and having a very very bad time of it.

Ince is a good shout though.

I don't think Huhges would take the job lightly in that he would want talks to find out exactly whether he would be given a free reign on choosing players/teams etc and all that kind of stuff. Given that he knows some of the Chelsea folk he would get a fair idea of the way things are run. On the surface it would be a dream come true for him, all the money for transfers he could want, a good chance of some silverware and a title next season, BUT if things did not work out quickly he could be out of a job sooner rather than later. In spite of that, I can't see him not wanting to give it a try, and in all honesty I couldn't blame him for that.

I hope Hughes will stay at Rovers but the day will come when he will leave as we all know.

I remember talking to John Williams after Souey left, and he said that they had received (if I remember rightly) about thirty applications with several very highly rated contenders - it is common knowledge in the football fraternity that Rovers is a well run club and there will be no shortage of those eager to offer their services.

Adams has had management experience at Wycombe and was pretty poor. Think he has found his role as a decent assistant, a bit like Bowen really.

Don't want to think about the possibility of Hughes going but guess Sam Allardyce would be an option. Effective with limited resources at Bolton but not the atractive football we've become used to I guess.

Just hope Chelsea go for someone else otherwise Hughes will be off. It's a club he's played for and supported as a youngster so who can blame him. Just remember though that we took a gamble when we appointed him as he had no club experience and it worked out pretty well. We could do the same again and take a gamble on an up and coming manager.

Just a couple of thoughts....... where does this leave Tugay if Hughes leaves?... Did Chelski spurn Jose bad enough that he might "replace" whichever Chelsea cherry picks and come in to try and show up Roman? That would be nice....

Allardyce did a good job at Bolton but I don't want him anywhere near us. Expect to see our gates go down pronto with him in charge. The Bolton thing was as good as it will get for him. Everyone's caught up with the scientific stuff he was doing now and he's lost his edge...

Did he mention my application? He never wrote back...Still interested.
