Silencio Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Make that another 'NO' for Big Fat Sam. The man has no class. Yeah he has, he writes for "Nuts" magazine....
joey_big_nose Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Oh yes he has, and he made a right cock-up of things at Wycombe. Definitely a very bad idea. Fair point. His stint was so short I forgot it. Still strikes me as the type of individual we should be looking for though, but I am willing to conede that he particularly should not be first choice. Lots of quality names being bandied about - Van Gaal, Hiddink etc. - but what I always worry about is whether veteran managers like that are going to come into a club like Rovers without much money and in a precatious position in many ways and really have the hunger for it. I suspect not to be honest. In my mind we need to speculate with the manager to accumilate. Luckily the board does seem to know what they are doing on this front which is better than about 50% of Premier League clubs so whoever we get it should (hopefully) be thoroughly vetted.
bubblerrovers Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Reading this has really cheered me up, so Bentley is off, Hughes to follow, No one wants to buy the club, Happy days indeed.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 We could always go for Owen Coyle... Don't tell nicko - he'll be lumping on us for the domestic treble!
pick32 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 worse case scenario bentley leaves and pennant ( most overated player ever) comes in, and hughes goes to chelsea and we line up a shock return for souness.
leftfooter Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Can't believe we're all indulging in the management speculation games so early in the close season. Oh well. I'm surprised that Simon Grayson's name hasn't been mentioned though. The ONLY silver lining if MH were to leave would be that it would probably lead to a bidding war for that other MB man of the moment...DB
den Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 We could add a poll for our new manager, - or is it just a little early for that?
modes98 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Frank Rijkaard's odds have shortened into 2/1 and below. Are you sure he is out of the race Nicko?
joey_big_nose Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 We could add a poll for our new manager, - or is it just a little early for that? I think it might just be smidge too early. But there is nothing like a bit of honest to goodness pessimism to brighten up a tuesday.
b12_simon Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 We could add a poll for our new manager, - or is it just a little early for that? It'd be a good one if only because I'm certain Groobs would have better popular support than Fat Sam
RevidgeBlue Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 We could add a poll for our new manager, - or is it just a little early for that? Yep, let's not wish him out of the door. Just a thought, can we not appoint Eddie as Roman's special advisor on finding a new boss?. He can brief him as to his Sparky's tactical naivety, poor substitutions, etc. etc..........................
broadsword Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I think it might just be smidge too early. But there is nothing like a bit of honest to goodness pessimism to brighten up a tuesday. Absolutely!
USABlue Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Well I suppose Bentley is off if we get fifteen million then. Interesting that Liverpool started the bidding so high at 12m. I thought it would be lower than that considering how idiotic Benitez has been. Have they actually tabled a bid then? I would now be officially concerned. Why Eddie been telling us for some time he is not good enough for us. Do we lose our backroom staff? Surely if Hughes goes then Bowen has to be one of the front-runners for the job? I'm not sure if he'd be my first choice, but he'd have to be looked at. So you would like to see Hughes leave and be replaced by his assistant. Fantastic.
Blackburn Ender Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Well, well, well... If Hughes went, we could finally have Eriksson many years too late. Or Avram Grant? Or, if he's so highly thought of at Ewood, why not take a punt on Tugay as player manager?
Liam0001 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 hughes wont go to chelsea considering the managers available, such as rijkaard im sure chelsea would approach one of them the unfashionable tag that comes along with rovers may be beneficial when it comes to incidents like this but bentley is probably off ha oh, and when hiddink rules himself out of the chelsea job i would be amazed if he then went to rovers ha
waggy Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 i'd really like hughes to get the chelski job, because i think he would do brilliantly well, and then utd would be up ###### creek when fergie leaves.
Tom 1 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Reading the earlier posts about Arshavin for 10m...god i'd love Villa to bid for him at that price! Our last 10m man Ashley Young was a brilliant buy, Arshavin would be just what we need, we're after a playmaker as well. Doubt it'll happen tho...we don't usually do signings like that. As for Hughes to Chelsea, could see it happening but not worth getting worried until its actually officially looking very much on, I know a lot of Villa fans who worried over Martin O'Neill going to England earlier this year who fretted over nothing.
vyeo Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Mourinho. Ok i'm having a laugh. On the other hand, our sales pitch could be "you'll prove that you are the special one if you win something with us".
Earlydoors Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 When did Shearer turn down the job? 96..when he left.. Jack offered him Player Manager role.. or for that matter any role he wanted. He chose the no silverware option.
modes98 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Oijer - another cheerio? Just read that myself. I would be annoyed to lose Andre i thought he was probably our best defender last season. Very consistent and did a decent job at right back. But he can't spend all his career on our bench.
