James Harper would be a very very good signing in my opinion. Think he has all of the attirbutes to be a very good player.

Completely agree with that. He's got the engine and the aggression to bring something back to the midfield which we lost when Savage went. When Sidwell was still at Reading, apparently most Reading fans considered Harper to be the better player of the two but Sidwell was getting the headlines for some reason.

I'd very happily sell Reid if Harper was coming in to replace him.

Nicko, do you think clubs will be holding their cash back until later, this year... what with Euro 2008?

I can foresee a whole summer of transfer speculation about Bentley, Joe Cole breaking his leg on 23/4 August and Bentley being gone on 26th.

Been rather busy - and in order of relevance.

BENTLEY - Definitely not a Chelsea priority...yet. Top source. He should sign the contract and give us all a rest.

WALCOTT - No way he's moving.

RELEGATED PLAYERS - No thanks, they went down for a reason.

EURO 2008 TARGETS - It may come to that, but I believe the names mentioned to me are not involved anyway...and there IS a clue.

GOMIS - Bolton not given up yet, but might as well do if Newcastle flash the cash.

Now that should really get the amateur detectives rolling.

Cue masses of British, American and African names on the following two pages.

When you "believe" these players to be "not involved" - we could be talking players from countries not in the competition OR players who Nicko believes are unlikely to be taking part - ie. they could still be Italian - but unlikely to make the squad.

What's going on with Richard Dunne? Will he stay or go?

I think he will leave - and might have a few choices. Newcastle favourites, but others will try. Decent, but maybe on the wrong side of the hill.

i hate having to guess cant you just tell us nicko? :D

That would spoil the fun... ;)

And, to be fair, the names I have are only being watched - no further than that as yet.

I would expect they will be watched again in the coming weeks.

If somebody gets watched by the manager and chief scout at this time of the year it usually means it's a live one for summer.

Which game did he go to again? I remember the teams being listed on here - but can't remember (or find) who it was.

Was it Getafe and Athletico?

RELEGATED PLAYERS - No thanks, they went down for a reason.

I find that a strange statement Alan, some very good players have suffered relegation over the years, I wouldn't mind Joe Cole or Jermaine Defoe in our team.

Also what about Kanoute, Milner, James, Carson, Glen Johnson, Di Canio, they've all been relegated at some stage in their career but still not bad players.
