One step at a time. But what an excellent thought.

Maybe and excellent 'thought ' but he would not accept the job after the booing he received when playing for newcastle at ewood park. He publicly stated that he has washed his hands of blackburn rovers.

If Hughes does go to Chelsea then good luck to him, He has done a fantastic job at Rovers.

I wouldn't want to see him leave, but he will eventually, so it may as well be now, then we can move on while we have enough time to prepare for the upcoming season.

I would like to see Eriksson in contention if he did go, it would have to be someone who is a fairly big name to attract quality players. A manager, who players we want here, i.e Saviola etc would want to play under. I don't want to se us go down the Bolton route, assistant manager fails & then we end up with an unproven manager, no disrespect to Megson.

i've been reading this on the Teamtalk, your say :

"I for one am happy the Saviola rumour has still got legs, MH has been keeping tabs on 'the little rabbit' for a while now" True ? ??

You can't blame him really, he was our best defender last season but bizarrely ended up being on the bench.

However, like Revidge said, he's getting on now. It's quite similar to the Savage situation, whereby he could be useful if he stays, but realistically we let him go if we get offered a decent fee for someone his age. We could put the money towards getting a proper right back, then just give Zurab more games next season and bring in a cheap fourth-choice defender as back-up, I'm sure there'll be a few without contracts this summer that'd be happy to warm the bench of a Premiership side.

Although it appears Allardyce wouldn't be wanted by most on here, he's still ticking all the right boxes.

He managed to attract some big name players to Bolton in his time, when they were even less fashionable than ourselves (Anelka, Diouf, Okocha, Campo, Hierro) so he could probably do a decent job of getting some to Ewood. One thing I always liked about Big Sam was that he'd have a try for any player if he was available, no matter how big the player was. If Allardyce was Rovers' manager and players like Saviola were available, you could be almost certain he'd at least try to get them.

I must admit that he's not ideal, but who else is there? There seems to be little managerial talent around at the moment, which is why there have been some strange appointments in the last year or so (Keegan to Newcastle, Megson to Bolton, Hodgson to Fulham).

Rovers could not afford Ericsson's wages - even though the greedy git has more money than Rovers in his bank account.

exactly what i was going to say... we couldn't attract a manager with as much prestige as sven has about him without offering a highly lucrative contract :(

Nicko,

If Hughes were to leave to Chelsea, how much compensation would Rovers be entitled to?

I would imagine there is a clause written into that new contract he signed.

And when it comes to Chelsea that's never a major issue...they just pay.

I would guess/estimate a compo figure of around £2 million.

Panic over, we have completely de-railed the "Hughes to Chelsea" bandwagon by placing a modest wager at 8/1. Should jinx it completely.

(Only 4/1 at Ladbrokes though and Hawksbee and Jacobs were talking it up on Talksport earlier.)

I'd have liked to see Chris Coleman come in if Sparky left, but having joined Coventry only a few months ago that seems very unlikely. Ticks the right boxes though; connection with the club, young, knows how to manage on a small budget.

I'm listening to talksport now, they seem convinced that Hughes will be given the job.

If the call went in doubt that Ranson or Coleman would turn it down. Coleman will do well with Coventry, mind you he can't do much worse.

Ten Cate assured of future

Ten Cate to become a director of football at Chelsea like Grant was?

or:

Chelsea have already been linked with a number of high-profile managers but Ten Cate believes there is a chance he could be asked to succeed Grant along with fellow assistant boss Steve Clarke.

He explained: "There are three options: Whether there is a new coach who takes his own technical staff. Or Steve Clarke and I take it over. Whether there is a new trainer who keeps me involved."
