On a bright note, if there is any time in the season to lose your manager and make big changes to your club. now is the best time.... much rather we lose hughes at the beginning of june than at the beginning of a season etc.
I personally think it's swings and roundabouts. If he had left at the start of the season, he would have already completed his summer spending and there would be no danger of our best players following him.

As it stands now, any players he was planning to buy to strengthen Rovers will more than likely be strengthing Man City instead (presuming he goes there - if he goes to Chelsea I'd presume his targets to be different).

A new manager coming in has to now decide which players are best for Rovers and then attract them to come, as well as persuading our best players to stay.

But, if MH goes to City, wouldn't that contradict his statement that he'd only manage clubs he's played for?? (or have I missed something?)

MH would be doing more than contradicting previous statements. He would be dancing on the graves of people crushed to provide the blood money supporting his future forays into the transfer market. His paymaster

1 Presided over extrajudicial killings during the notorious "war on drugs". Human Rights Watch says 2,500 people were killed during one three-month period at the start of 2003.

2. Has been investigated in Thailand over the sale of Thaksin's telecommunications firm, Shin Corp, to Temasek Holdings, an arm of the Singapore Government, in January 2006 in a deal worth $1.88 billion (about £910 million). The sale attracted criticism because Thaksin's family did not pay tax on the deal. The controversy played a major part in his ousting as Prime Minister last year.

3. Embarked upoin a vicious suppression of the media

I cannot believe there has been no backlash against Hughes for this disgusting dance with a corrupt devil. Has money really damned us all where the size of the transfer budget manages to blot out all morality? From everything I have read on here and in the press it would seem so. And it is that, not a moderately talented football manager leaving a middling football club, that is the really sad thing.

When he is cradling his Carling cup in his new Barratt built faux Hollywood mansion, he can think about all those people robbed, killed and maimed on his footballing behalf. What a legacy. What a man.

Not if it means we are without a manager for a while but I get your point.

As with Aggy not so much bothered with the news Hughes might be going, but moreso with the factor of who and when the replacement would be coming in.

You have a good point.

I just feel the longer a new manager has to settle in the better the team will be for it. If we got another Hughes type character that had good connections to some big names it could mean some big signings.

Although its bad news that hughes looks like hes off. It might be the perfect time for someone to step in with the ability to take us even further.

Shearer as his assistant i would be delighted.

lol Shearer would love that!

Billic just signed a 2 year extension last week didn't he?

Think he fancies taking them to the World Cup.

Done a quick google news search and nothing popped up. Even if he has Hughes signed one in November so it hardly means anything thesedays.

Besides which it is on topic. One of the things I always liked about Hughes was that he seemed a decent bloke. Nobody is an angel but in football circles he appeared one of the straight ones who you felt might have some moral scuples. Going to work for Shinawatra suggests that he is prepared to sacrifice any scruples he might have in the face of promised transfer funds, wherever they came from. I just want this all over and done with quickly and efficiently, although where I stand on our taking the Thai's money in return for our management team I don't know. If Hughes is going then let it be now not in 10 days time so we have all the longer to look around and find a suitable replacement.

I'm surprised that so many are backing Bilic. What exactly has he done as a manager?

I think its because he has a take no nonsense kind of attitude, alot like hughes.

He speaks the truth.

Plus hes in a rockband.

whats not to like?!

More than Hughes had done at the same stage of his career. :)

The manner in which Croatia qualified was excellent, just look at the commitment they put in to that final game against us even though they had already qualified. For me though, it's more how he comes over in interviews and so on. Like Hughes when he was with Wales, he just seems to have that special something about him, everything he says is generally spot-on and the confidence and authority with which he says them will surely inspire players.

Ah, but there is no topic in this thread. One of the pitfalls of having an "everything goes" thread.

Football sub-forum, football topic. :P

What had Hughes done before we took him?

McClown has been mentioned a lot and he outdid him for a start, but that's not a massive achievement I know.

nicko: Any noises from rovers today in relation to what they expect to happen? or how quickly they would want to find a new manager should sparky depart?

OK, own up, who's backing Sparky for Chelsea in the past few minutes...?

out of interest for the betting market. hughes is obivously clear favourite for the man city job. but who would be the outsider for man city? there are some very good prices at the moment. alot of money to be made (or probably lost).

Hmmm...I'm just starting to wonder whether we could have an even bigger problem on our hands. If City don't agree a fee with Rovers for Hughes, or Hughes decides he doesn't fancy the move, and Chelsea appoint someone else we're suddenly left with a manager who's clearly disillusioned with life at Rovers and would rather be elsewhere.

What do we do then? Sack him? That means we'd have to pay him off I presume. Keep him? Doesn't send a great message to the players does it? Plus we'd just be in limbo waiting for the next big job to come along that Hughes gets linked with.

I think it may be bteer for all concerned now if Hughes just goes. I'm not bothered where.
