Presty On Tour Posted June 12, 2008 Author Posted June 12, 2008 Turkey really pulled it out of the bag tonight, the first team in this years tournament to win from being behind.

Sydney Rovers Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Portugal's set piece defence was embarassing and Ricardo must be the Portuguese David James as he worries me a lot. At least they're through just hope that they finish top so they possibly avoid Germany till at least the semis because then they can have the inevitable brain explosion.
Dunnfc Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Croatia vs Germany granted its only 8 minutes in but zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 German back four all over the place because of that left back Jansen. I think if they want to get anything from this game they will have to move Lahm at left back and put Friedrich on at right back.
speeeeeeedie Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 The Germans now have to play in their last game, I think they'll be OK but the Austrians will give them a fright. Should be a great game. Croatia deserved it. Schweinsteiger changed the game when he came on, then got sent off for a schoolyard push. The Croat made it look worse though.
American Rover12 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Even after missing that 1v1, the Austrians are playing great yet still not finishing.
gumboots Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Big nostalgia moment for me and husband there. They played Focus in their preview to Holland's game. When I first met him they were his favourite group. Many's the night we've sat listening to them and................

Also leading to the closed captioning guy typing his name as Swine Tiger the first time!
RoyRover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I thought that Croatia played very well and deserved their win. They could have been out of sight at half time, carving out a couple of great chances after their goal. Modric showed what a class player he is and I was also impressed by Rakitic and Pranjic. Germany looked far stronger with Lahm at left back instead of Jansen who had a shocker. Croatia should progress as group winners now. The first half of the Poland and Austria game was surprisingly good. If hadn't been for Boruc and poor finishing, Austria would have been two or three up. They deserved a draw, although I think that penalty was a bit soft. France and Holland could be a great game tonight.
herbergeehh Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I enjoyed watching Austria, and Andreas Ivanschitz is a good player. Wonder what someone like that would cost? .. Big guy with flair and technique in midfield, not wrong alongside Johann Vogel methinks. Croatia is a really good side, who I hope can go through. Too bad Spurs have signed Modric, as this will only add to his price, but their football is very well played. I also like the striker Olic, a lot of pace and incredible work ethic. As mentioned in another thread, Bilic does himself some favours in this tournament.
Dunnfc Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Holland vs France what a second half! Brilliant once touch attacking play.
Iceman Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Robbens goal was sublime.im supporting the dutch,as we speak basicaly the same language.we speak afrikaans.lovely piece of work from RVN as wel.
brian_gallagher85 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 ....and then there's France :S ...bye bye €5
Blue n White Rover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 An absolute cracking game! Would be interesting to see how the dutch will react if they fall a goal behind like Shearer pointed out. The Euros haven't been a let down...YET
philipl Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 So long as the Dutch don't pick Engelaard again they'll be alright. Italian commentators again rhapsodising about Ooijer. Last two games in that Group will be interesting with nobody knocked out yet. Romania just don't have the technically gifted players to score against the dutch but it could get tasty and physical with a red card or two. There have to be decent odds on Italy and France bashing each other to a draw and both going out as I doubt the Dutch will achieve a hattrick of three goal winning margins. The Italian defense has fallen apart or otherwise I would tip their ability to dominate in the air in their opponents penalty box to see them home against a relative small French defense.
Bobby G Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Holland are guaranteed first spot so will surely rest quite a few players. Could be the opening for Romania to sneak a win and knock out both WC finalists.

Could be the opening for Romania to sneak a win and knock out both WC finalists. Do you reckon Holland will field a weaker team on purpose so there 2 main rivals get knocked out and make there route to the final easier? Would be a clever tactic in my point of view but im sure others would disagree?
Bobby G Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I dont think it will be intentionally to knock out those two BUT the Dutch will want to rest Ruud, Sneijder, VDV, and probably give a run out to van Persie, Robben, Bouma and others...At the same time the fringe players will be out to impress van Basten. Im sure Donadoni will be on the phone to Marco in the morning... Somehow I can see Italy and France drawing though...
Rovermatt Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Awesome performance from the Dutch. But my God, the French blow. Domenech's failings as a coach are becoming more pronounced in the absence of Zidane's genius.
Blue n White Rover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 If the Dutch beat Romania 3-0 and France and Italy draw 0-0 who would go through? They have all scored the same amount of goals and conceded the same amount, also the head to head will be the same. So what would happen then? I heard the new rules about penalties being taken but surely 3 teams cant play for a shoot out
Lurid Coat Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Having seen all the matches so far, I think it's safe to say that Holland - France has been the best one. What an amazing display of talent and skill by the Dutch side! Somehow I doubt that they'll be able to continue in this manner, though, but here's hoping they will! Funny to see how Ooijer has had Toni and Henry in his back pocket during the EC, but had to warm the bench for large parts of the 2007/08 season. Always rated Andre, and I'm adamant that he's our best defender.
speeeeeeedie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Again, the Dutch were class. I hope they keep it up. Makelele is a dirty sh!te.

Like the entire dutch side he played well tonight, the Dutch look superb at the moment the question is whether they can mantain this high level. Still wondering how Chelsea allowed Robben to leave and then replaced him with Malouda who I'm not convinced by at all.
