ihateburnley Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Just got my renewal notice from my car insurers........£1910 or £159.34 a month Needless to say I used Compare The Market and got it down to 'only' £900 a year which is similar to what I'm currently paying. Just wondered what sort of prices everyone else was paying?

LeftWinger Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I pay about £500ish for a 1.0 Saxo - that's with two of us on it and includes roadside recovery - with Quinn Insurance. I could have got it cheaper but the missus has made a claim in last 18 months and it was easier to stay with them. My first car was a 205 GTI 1.6 when I was 20 - and I paid £2500 to insure that TPFT. How old are you and what car if you don't mind me asking?
ihateburnley Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 I'm 22, driving a Vauhall Astra SXI 1.4. I also have had 2 accidents in just over a year, one of which was my fault. Of course, my age and accidents represent a risk to the insurer, but having been with them for four years and having two years no claims I thought they may be just a little more keen to keep hold of my custom. The strange thing is, that after using CTM, one of the results that came up was £1100 from my current insurers....£800 cheaper than my renewal quote.

Just wondered what sort of prices everyone else was paying? It's not relevent unless you know the age of the person and the type of car. BUT My daughter was searching for quotes on the internet a month ago for a Fiesta and she got quotes ranging from £1050 FC (endsleigh) up to £4500 (M&S). She then put my details in for an Audi 3.0tdi Quattro and the cheapest for me was said M&S at £525.00! There really is no rhyme nor reason to some of their thinking. Why should anyone have to pay for a 2nd vehicle other than for 'Fire and theft'? I have a second vehicle and try as I might I cannot drive two vehicles at the same time!
LeftWinger Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 They do that. After my first years insurance they sent me a renewal letter, saying it was going to cost me £2000 to renew with 1 years no claims. I got a quote through their website with the same details and it was £400 cheaper. I took that quote out, and then they were ringing me saying that I had to provide them with evidence of my no claims bonus from my last insurer. I just told them that if they posted me the evidence, I'd post it back to them. Muppets. I don't think you can the price comparison site for a quote to be honest.
Ste B Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 If your a young driver with claims, then its no surprise that you've got such a high quote. They tend to stay active for 5 years regardless of fault. Even if you arent at fault, they factor something in as you are "unlucky" You really need to find a specialist insurance broker who can get you a better quote. I've beat the comparison sites every time by ringing round a couple of decent brokers. Adrian Flux in Kings Lynn are excellent, they knew my last Astra had a thatcham immobiliser as standard and this saved me £150 quid on the last.
PAFELL Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Just got my renewal notice from my car insurers........£1910 or £159.34 a month Needless to say I used Compare The Market and got it down to 'only' £900 a year which is similar to what I'm currently paying. Just wondered what sort of prices everyone else was paying? I have just renewed my insurance for £257.00 with Hasting direct and used confused. com. I was first quoted £303.00. Although I have had a licence for over 20 years - I have only had insurance for 4 years. I had not driven for 20 years as I didn't need a car and used public transport. Things changed and needed a car. Even my first insurance was not £900.00 a year - (thats nearly £18.00 a week - sod that) often an insurance company will quote a high price when renewing, so must shop around. In the past 4 years I have had 4 different insurance companies. Try the quote me happy people. As I live near hastings direct offices I went in to see them and got £50.00 knocked off. I had a copy of my renewal and no claims bonus proof from my previous company did a bit of talking saying I wasn't happy and would use somebody else and they reduced it by £50.00. As they say shop around and keep looking you always have at least 30 days to look before your old policy runs out. Male young 46 years old 1.4 ford fusion 4000 mile on clock 4 years no claims £257.00
Rovers Air Force Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Male, aged 29 1.9l deisel estate - V reg (just broke the 100,000k) 2 previous accidents - both time rear-ended and not at fault 1 case of criminal damage 1 year ago - £2,500 worth of damage - and when I find 'em they will die a long and painfull death! £350 FC per year... Things will get better!
RoversFanUSA Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I hate the insurance here in california! This last friday i backed into a little sub compact car with my truck. So i call my insurance and they told me i wasnt covered. When i asked why they told me becasue it wasnt the car i had insured. I then told them that when i bought my policy i asked if i would be covered if i drove another car and they told me not to worry i was covered and so on. Needless to say i got screwed because i now have to pay for the ladys car repairs out of pocket. I told them that as soon as my policy term is up im moving to another company.

jim mk2 Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Drive a company car and get them (via other taxpayers) to pay for it. And your licence. And your repairs. And your new tyres. And your broken windscreen. And the cost of the new car every 12 months. Cue Four Bogs rant.

Completely incorrect too! Except to those who still living in some 1970's and 1980's situation.

Ricky Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 If anyone is due to get their insurance quote soon it may be worth looking at Quidco for some extra cashback. I got 120 quid back from prudential on my last policy. My ex did the same and ended up making her insurance 30 quid for a year including green flag cover.
Hughesy Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 24, 3 years no claims on a Audi A3 1.8 SE. I pay £850 a year. If you are a young driver i recommend the pass plus. When i passed I was paying £1400, 3 weeks later when I got my pass plus it dropped to £800 on a Peugeot 306
Presty On Tour Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 male 26 full no claims 9 points though i think it's down to 6 now black bmw e36 2.5 straight 6, 24v full m3 bodykit up to 5k modifications declared £474 with adrian flux i also done the pass plus in my first year of driving, only cost something like £80 and it knocked off hundreds with the insurance. If you already have no claims it's not worth doing as the insurance will take the no claims into account and ignore the pass plus.
Paul Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Had some tyres fitted the other day and the Kwikfit lady asked if they could quote for cover so I agreed. Got the phone call on Monday and reduced our premium from £299 to £172. We were with Norwich union and are now with Zurich via the Kwikfit organisation. den Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Did a search on moneysupermarket.com for an X-Trail. Cheapest quote was £182 from Post Office. Thing is, on top of that being the cheapest quote, they are doing £50 cashback as well! Don't know how long the cashback offer is on for.
whittle blue Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 The last time a biker tried to push past me on the M65 slip road he gave up at 165mph AND THAT'S WHY OUR PREMIUMS ARE SO BLOODY EXPENSIVE.
prestonblue Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 AND THAT'S WHY OUR PREMIUMS ARE SO BLOODY EXPENSIVE. Really cant see your logic that my driving style on this instant effects your insurance in any way bearing in mind ive never made a claim or had one made against me ????? Im just guessing kids going out and wrapping their cars and bodies around trees has a slightly bigger effect as is those who dont bother to get cover as is those that abuse the system of claiming for crash injuries etc

Was under the impression that dangerous drivers somehow affected insurance costs.
