I would much prefer Jewell to BFS.

Jewell hasn't won a game since he went to Derby has he?

I can't think of a worse suggestion off the top of my head, without turning to the other perennial failures on the managerial merry go round like Robson/Reid/ Souness.

How about Stanley Ternant then?

Utter rubbish Jewell is.

No charisma. And I dont want my manager having a fetish for freaky sex. How would he have the respect of the players!

When it comes to results in the Premier League, without doubt Allardyce is a better option than Jewell or even McLaren who with all that money never finished in the top half with his side.

Alan Shearer and Mike Newell.

Now that would be a dream ticket. I think they would work well together, bit like King Kenny and Ray Harford, they're young and could attract talent. A managerial job for Shearer to cut his teeth on.

Works for me

No thanks. I just couldn't stand all this again when Kev K gets the boot/leaves by mutual consent. Plus I can still remember the heartache of 96 when he left us first time around :angry2:

Great post.

But wouldn't Ince still have the kudos within the footballing fraternity to assemble an impressive backroom staff? I can't see why not.

Kudos yes, but my worry is he hasn't had the time to find his team. Hughes knew who he wanted with him. Kenny knew he wanted Harford. I'd be surprised if Ince knew who he wanted who could also impress the mutinous dogs in the dressing room. I shudder when I recall Kidd bringing in his mate McClair as first team coach. Ince's back up team would have to be great coaches and I don't see why great coaches would have yet aligned themselves with him.

Which is unfortunate, as I think we need that kind of manager rather than BFS or worse.

We could do with a kingmaker who could assemble such a team

'96 Is history. What ever manager we get, it wont be a job for life. We knew Sparky would move on, it was just a matter of when. But I don't regret his managing us.

Shearer & Newell. Its the future!

Christophe Daum of Cologne. Just got them promoted to the Bundesliga and did wonders at Leverkusen and was given the German national team job before the drugs scandal.

Looks like he's cleaned his act up and would be a lively appointment. Not that it'll happen mind you.

It has got to be someone who can bring quality players in, or we will find ourselves going backwards, and backwards quickly.

Whether you like him or not, Souey did actually bring in some decent players, and a lot of that was down to his profile and ambition (I know he had money to spend).

Ditto Hughes - certain players he brought in would not have come in unless he was manager.

The potential candidates are so bad, which in turn could mean we have to take a risk.

at the end of the day it will be allardyce because of these reasons:

1 - he is a proven premier league manager

2 - he is proven to be shrewed in the transfer market

3 - he proved already that he can take a 'small club' into europe

those 3 reasons are why williams will be looking at him at the top of the list as he has taken bolton into europe several times with nearly getting into champions league once.

i believe with the much better quality at blackburn currently and some key signings he is our best hope right now of making it back into europe.

i just hope sparky knows what he is giving up before he goes.

As for assistant manager i think that if mark bowen doesn't leave then he should still be or else i think it should be someone that knows the club like mike newell as he will help our new manager getting to know our fans abit more, also mike newell coming back will soften the blow of losing hughes and watching long ball all day :P

Big Fat Sam - No way, same goes for Jewell.

Paul Ince - don't like him as a person but has done well at MK Dons

…or...

Sven - but don't think that would happen.

Maybe get a poll going so that we can get an idea of who the fans would like.

FOOTBALL !

One day you have a good talented manager and a team achieving top 8 in the premiership and possibly more, the next day the big clubs fancy what we have and just decide to come in and take it away ! Whats it all about , is it worth bothering with ?

The small town club is doomed nowadays, without a rich benefactor we have had it, lets face it.

I admit that Sam may be a good appointment, despite our football becoming boring. However, perhaps a risk can also be taken on someone like Gary Johnson or Paul Ince. Obviously, an up and coming manager of that sort may not impress a player in Santa Cruz's position a year ago, but they may grow as we do. We'd need stability, and a manager that will not cock it up with crazy tactics etc.

My choices (in no order) are:

1. Billy Davies

2. Sam Allardyce

3. Cristoph Daum

4. Gary Johnson

5. Paul Ince

6. Louis Van Gaal (if he isn't in a better job)

Two of the mentioned names worry me. Paul Jewell has achieved nowt, and would be an admission that we are facing relegation, and have no ambition, whilst McClaren is too soggy, polite and mediocre.

P.S. I don't care if we get relegated-at least we'll not be stressing about profit margins, whinging prima donnas and what Ferguson calls Wenger etc. The Premiership is a tasteless, crass circus where football comes second.

BIG SAM, God No!

I think the season ticket will be going back if he takes over.

I for one wont be sitting watching his style of big boot football next season.

He would be a backwards step for Rovers.

P.s

Please don't leave us MR Hughes!
