AggyBlue Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Spurs fans are loving whats happening to us apparently. What's happening to us? We're going to get a new manager that's going to take us up to the next level.

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Just because BFS may come here doesn't mean we'll hoof it. We have better players than Bolton did or arguably Newcastle. I did notice us hoofing it ourselves in the latter half of the season so maybe BFS isn't too dissimilar to Hughesy in his tactics.
philipl Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 At the end of the day no approach will be made before and until Hughes resigns. The club won't even tip off an agent but that isn't to say agents who fancy their chances aren't out there looking for candidates. This is the 20th best paid club job in the world we are talking about. The club will certainly receive at least 100 expressions of interest of which 50ish will be worthwhile looking into. Only if those don't present enough of the sorts of profiles the club is looking for or there is a particular sort of candidate the Board particularly wants will they go out and look themselves. I would guess that some who want to be considered are non-obvious so they have/will make sure a price is quoted for themselves.
Billy Castell Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Does anyone have any odds on our next manager? Or do bookies only open the books once Hughes has officially left?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Does anyone have any odds on our next manager? Or do bookies only open the books once Hughes has officially left? There are some odds up but I think they are just copied off the other thread on this messageboard (Steve Cotterill and Billy Davies were joke entries but are on the odds)

USABlue Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Spurs fans are loving whats happening to us apparently. Calling us a small sh1t club, our manager finally going to a big club, us doing a Leeds and them doing a raid on our players. And they finished where last season?

Calling us a small sh1t club, our manager finally going to a big club, us doing a Leeds and them doing a raid on our players. If we're a small **** club we couldn't possibly have any players that would be of interest to them!
Billy Castell Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 They're just a bunch of ____s who think thy're massive because they won the league cup. Hopefully our new manager will be able to fight for our best players and not just let them leave.
roversmum Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 And just remind them who beat them to win the said League Cup a few years ago! Happy Day!

Not a direct quote ADB but was BFS the manager at Newcastle when they came to Ewood early December? I know we won 3-1 after two pieces of brilliance by Bents and a tap in for Tugs, but I thought they were unlucky and played us off the park if my memory serves me well. They played well, and exposed our weaknesses, their tactics that day were spot on, and though they were defensively dreadful, I thought we were lucky to come away with anything from the game !
waggy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 MY no1 would still be SHEARER and NEWELL INCE floats my boat BILIC is a name i'm warming too COLLINS could do the job sammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BlueMonday Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 MY no1 would still be SHEARER and NEWELL Posted the very same myself. That would get me looking forward to next season, because I'm feeling very 'glass half full' at the mo U.T.B.

My memory of that game is a little different. The first half we played their game and it was a dreary aerial battle from both sides. At half time we reckoned Rovers needed to keep it down and we'd paste them - which is exactly what we did. There's no denying that the gum-chewing arse-faced winker's football can be effective at times but would you want to watch it every other weekend?
James No. 7 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 This is the 20th best paid club job in the world we are talking about. The club will certainly receive at least 100 expressions of interest of which 50ish will be worthwhile looking into. Not to mention the fact that BRFC is currently the seventh best club in England, whose top flight is easily the richest in the world. Which is why the board (or specifically whoever does the hiring) shouldn't be limited to British managers this time (may the best person available get the job, regardless of passport). It is also why the club shouldn't be looking at potential managers with no managerial experience (Shearer, but that doesn't rule out other assistant/coaching positions). The club should be able to attract and appoint a manager with a pedigree at European or international level. The team has more quality than the last time a manager was needed (particularly up front) and is not an unattractive proposition under the threat of relegation.

NEWELL & SHEARER - now your talking. NEWELLSHEARER when said out loud sounds like New Welsh Era - which is what I thought we had with Sparky.....Its Fate!!!! Please Rovers Board, dont sell this club short - I feel sick to the stomach that we could end up with one of the 'scrap heap' managers. One Love - Forever - BRFC
brfc_jonesy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 For me i'd love slaven bilic, i know it wont happen but one can dream, but id take big sam, over mclown and jewell any day of the week!!!

LeChuck Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 BIG SAM, God No! I think the season ticket will be going back if he takes over. I for one wont be sitting watching his style of big boot football next season. A lot people are making out that we've been playing wonderful football under Hughes. Well, we haven't. A lot of his early period was spent scrapping with 4-5-1, and I can't say it got a whole lot better (the Bellamy season was probably the most entertaining). Just because BFS may come here doesn't mean we'll hoof it. We have better players than Bolton did or arguably Newcastle. I did notice us hoofing it ourselves in the latter half of the season so maybe BFS isn't too dissimilar to Hughesy in his tactics. Agree with this. I remember Allardyce getting annoyed with people who were against him getting the England job because of his tactics. He was basically saying that he was just getting the best out of his Bolton side, whereas if he had better players he wouldn't play that style. Like you said, not too dissimilar to Hughes in that respect. There's no way players like Okocha and Diouf would have been successful it was all long ball anyway, they have to play a fair amount on the ground to get the best out of those players.

G Somerset Rover Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I haven't really given this much thought, but two contrasting and potentially interesting names that spring to mind are Bilic and Gary Johnson at Bristol City. However Bilic wouldn't leave until after the Euro's and Johnson hasn't even managed in the Premiership as of yet. Both look extremely talented managers though and deserve a crack at a Premiership club for different reasons.
pick32 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 i would like to see chris coleman and shearer, two former rovers, coleman has a good rekord at fulham with a small budget he stil got players like bullard, saha, boa morte and diop. He also got real sociedad promoted and then got sacked for reasons people dont no. and shearer because as a pundit he always come across like he knows a few things, and the fact he is obviously a fan favourite plus two fingers up at the barcodes aswel.
