After initially feeling gutted, now the appointment by City has finally been confirmed I'm not all that bothered. I'm even slightly excited which I haven't been as a Rovers fan since we were knocked out of Europe by Larissa at the start of the season. Anyone else feeling the same way?

Hughes did wonders for us, and I now money (or lack of it has contributed) but how much have we really progressed since the 2005/06 season?

Let's just makes sure we stay well clear of Mclaren. There's plenty of young and established managers out there who, with the right coaching staff and JW's excellent management of the club off the field, we'll be alright.

The Premier league is littered with clubs who are poorly managed, and with the golden tresure chest of the champions league only able to accommodate 4 , there'll be no shortage of clubs hiring/firing/imploding/giving up half way through a season when things aren't going their way. Not to mention the usual couple of clubs who come up and do a Derby (thanks for the cash, we'll go down and rebuild) which more and more will do in the forthcoming years.

And with that, Tugay for player manager anyone? What odds do you think I'll get?

It looks like we now have 3 realistic candiadates out there who most people would be happy with:

Bilic

Laudraup

Ince

Bilic is complicated in that the Euros are going to take up all of his attention and, as others pointed out, he has just signed a contract to 2010.

Laudraup is clearly the outstanding candidate. However his pedigree and success mean that bigger clubs than us are after him Panathanaikos who can offer Champions League football. Not sure how he would feel about a club like Rovers.

Ince on the other hand would obviously come like a shot but doesn't possess much in terms of managerial pedigree. But he does seem to have real impact wherever he goes.

Any of those three would get toungues wagiing and peoples imaginations would be fired.

Allerdyce on the other hand would not We have succeeded with Hughes so I think we will stick with that mould, not a journeyman.

Hi, I'm new to the messageboard but have been reading for quite a while now. Finally got arsed to register!

I think Ince would be a decent shout. He's got a grounding in management albeit at a low level (Martin O'Neill-esq) but he is someone with a decent reputation from playing at United, Liverpool and Inter so would hopefully be able to attract players.

As for Fat Sam... no thanks!

I don't think you can really call Pananthanaikos bigger than us. They do offer champions league football, but only because they are in a worse league. We'll match them on spending power and we'll offer him higher wages. If we really went for him, so long as he doesn't have personal reasons for not wanting to come I think we would get him.

Allardyce is by far the most appropriate candidate. I quite fancy him and Gary Speed as his assistant.

Steve Coppel would be my second choice, but I doubt he'd leave Reading just now. Seems like a pretty loyal guy.

My wildcard would be Alan Pardew. I liked his passion whilst at West Ham and was booted out unfairly.

You must be the only person in the world that fancies Sam Allardyce, except Mrs Allarydyce!

Well I hope you are right. He is the one name cropping up which I think would seriously impress the likes of Bentley and Cruz. We will definately approach and I think if he accepted it would be done and dusted.

If he came suddenly losing Hughes seems almost like a good thing.

Dechamps could be an interesting leftfield choice. Looks like Sam will get the job if you believe the odds. However, we have seen the odds of the Chelsea candidates changing so much we should not take anything for granted.

So Sam is the red hot favourite, but not with any Rovers fans.

To be fair he probably thinks of it this way.

1) He needs more money to make a serious impact on the league. City seem to have that money.

2) It is clearly an unstable club but Hughes prides his ability to "Manage Upwards" so probably thinks he can handle Frank and his staff and build a platform to work from.

3) Things at Rovers were getting stale.

4) Yes he will get more money.

To me it seems a bit daft as Eriksson is a talented manager yet didn't manage to placate Frank. However part of Hughes strength is his self belief so he will think he can succeed where Eriksson failed.

Look at the job advert.

Team finished 7th in the EPL last season – the strongest & richest league in the world.

Salary of around £1m a year. £10m to spend with further depending on what you sell – more than likely Bentley at £15m +.

A squad capable of finishing in the top 8 next season before you even develop it further.

A great chairman who will not interfere with your business – he runs the business – you run the team (which is more than City can say).

Future is bright – future is rovers. We will have many job applications don’t you worry!

Souness is surprisngly short odds considering how crap we were towards the end of his reign. And Houllier at 14/1? He'd be mad to ditch winning French titles and being at a respectable CL standard club to manage a team with no money.

Don't think we'd ever attract Billic. To many fancy clubs want him. And west Ham.

Houllier left Lyon a year ago and dont think he's attached to a club.

Lets get real, it's gonna be Allardyce!

Let's say Croatia do well this summer. Clubs like Weder Bremen, Valencia etc. may be in a position to offer him a job with CL prospects. Whilst I don't have a list of who's looking for a manager, some team of that standing may be able to offer employment later this year.

Didn't realise Houllier left. He might do OK.
