[Archived] Next Rovers Manager

Recommended Posts

There is STILL an overriding depth of despair going on with some members of this board/forum.

What we know is this :-

Rovers have a healthy list of applicants.

Shearer declined to go on the list.

Mourinho and Big Phil as well as Sven have all got new jobs.

That is a summary of ALL we know in all reality. The media hacks, Mr Nixon, Sky and whoever will ALL have an idea as to who is on lists, but, if you read ALL the newspapers and every bulletin on the internet, ALL of them have different names on their lists, ALL of them have different names as favourites and ALL of them have NO idea as to who and when is being interviewed.

In order to prevent another Bridgend, please can we have a weekend off the speculation and please can everyone calm down, have a blow out on the beer and bbq, take the wife shopping, watch the cricket and/or rugby and/or football and forget about everything BRFC for the time being.

I doubt very much that we will know anything before Monday.

Monday is an important day as the fixtures are out at 0900.

Enjoy

I'm not in despair, life would be boring without the managerial saga to fill this quiet period until the transfers really start to fly.

Definitely will be no news out of Ewood on the manager front until the end of next week. Patience is a virtue. The club are like a duck, serene on the surface but a lot of activity out of sight.

Anyway, choices left -

Allardyce - not all negatives but big issue with a lot of the fans.

Ten Cate - May be off to Greece if you believe Panathanaikos

Ince- Desperate to come, will he be able to get the right backroom staff?

Plus loads of other unreleased but gossiped about names.

More importantly John Williams is in place and we can trust him to do the best he can. The manager I want is the one he and the board selects. B)

Whilst we are managerless, it is at least sparing us from meaningful threats to take our players away. Everybody knows that Boards which have no financial reason to sell do not sell whilst a manager selection is proceding and then not before the new man and his team have settled in and taken a long hard look at what they have.

JW has set the tone and any enquiry will be met with not for sale.

Totally agree with that. JW is an excellent Chief Exec.

Seems Ince has the job. All candidates were a risk (as they always are - anyone can fail). A strong backroom staff, fitness are key issues coming form the League Two, but as a Prem player, he'll now what it takes over 90 minutes to win. I believe we overachieved this season vis a vis matchday performances. Though the performances were poor considering the squad, many players underperforming. On balance I would say Ince inherits a squad 7-10th. I think he can improve things as Pompey rely n clean sheets and are poor, Villa are selling Barry, West Ham have a poor coach, City a decent manager but off field problems.

One thing is for sure, Ince will wear 'Arte et Labour' on his sleeve and his management style has been one where he has embraced the fans unlike BFS!

Agreed, but the worrying thing is that we don't have the best choices to pick from in the first place. We got lucky with Hughes, I don't know if we can repeat that.

NO-ONE has the job until the CLUB makes an ANNOUNCEMENT

And as we've heard, even that might not mean they have the job.

I agree with the sentiment that whomever gets picked will be the right man for the job (especially now that Shearer is out of the running). I like the idea of a younger, hungrier manager (Ince, Martinez) best, but wouldn't mind having a proven Premiership manager (BFS or MacClaren).

For those who don't like the idea of Allardyce.....

If we poached O'Neill from Villa (not going to happen I know, but bear with me), i'm sure everyone would be happy.

So compare him to Sam.

Similar football style, both have Prem experience (Sam much more) and SA has got better results with similar resources. Allardyce has a better knowledge of the world game (in my opinion) and would probably be a more willing ally to the board.

I have said this before but anyone who thinks the footy was exiting and expansive under Hughes needs to get a few DVD's of some of the games from last season, many of which were dire by anyones standards, (especially at Ewood), and I didn't hear too many who were glad to see the back of him because of our style of play.

If anyone thinks the Newcastle job was easy then ask Kenny, Souey and Ruud and i'm sure they'll tell you different. That club is rotten.

So although my heart wants an exiting new manager my head says Sam is most sensible choice at present, until we have the resources to buy ourselves out of a hole that an "unknown quantity" may put us in.

Who the Hell has said we want O'Neill....Why pick Alardyce becuase he is the esasy option..Once he signs it will be for at least three years..I could not bear that...We hated him when he managed Bolton so how could we like him now..no nay never..

I'm just very worried things could go horribly wrong if we gamble.

Sam is not my favourite person in the world (that is John Bond) but i'm 99% sure he won't get us relegated in the next 2 or 3 years.

No doubt you wouldn't want Wenger or the old RFW either chocky?

I must say if you take away the Newcastle disaster (when through no fault of his own he was tainted in Ashley's new regime as a permanent reminder of the Shepherd era) then Allardyce is easily the best fit for our job.

I'm starting to think the same way pal,the clubs ongoing stability and remaining a member of the EPL is a priority that sits well ahead of any 'sexy football' and anything else.

Would not be good for the crowds but we appear stuck between a rock and a hard place at present.

And that attitude, in a nutshell, is one of the reasons why Hughes left. There are too many so-called fans who didn't share the Hughes desire to "get to the next level". It's all about "we have to stay in the division". Why? We were 7th last season. We lost a good manager through his own lack of common sense, and backing himself into a very unpleasant corner and suddenly we're relegation fodder? You really were all brainwashed by Souness weren't you?

I despair about you lot, I really do. You remind me of the guy who sits to my right at Ewood. When I was berating MGP for yet another missed pass he pulled a face. When I challenged him he said "don't you know we're lucky to have players of his calibre? We're punching above our weight and we should just be grateful to be in the division". That's a sickeningly mealy-mouthed attitude. Probably also an indicator of the state of Blackburn the town. Where's the ambition? The "get up and go?" It's got up and gone. So very, very sad.

Jan that's the best post on this yet...We are little Blackburn we don't are lucky to be in the premiership. let's have Alardyce because he will keep us in this division even though it means we will get no where...Pedersen was dire last season. No wonder we can't keep our best players and our best manager in ages..

Unfortunately it's about who will choose you. We found that out. And, if you've got Ince and Allardyce competing for the job, you're in a fortunate position. Make the most of it.

We all want to go to the ''next level'' but unfortunately the club finances will prevent that from happening, all and sundry realise that,Hughes realised that and was probably THE major factor in him moving to...... ''a club that could match his (financial) ambitions''.

Unless you have been on the moon these last 12+ months or so the club still has not recieved any serious concrete offers for it.

Brainwashed by Souness?......give us a break Jan!
