BBC have just reported that Porto's conviction for having bribed two refs on their way to the Portuguese title in 2003/4 has resulted in their ejection from the CL next season.

FC Porto was banned from all european competitions. Unlike AC Milan 2 years ago.

As a Benfica fan, I'm happy. Benfica will play the CL and Braga will get an Uefa spot.

They were condemned for trying to buy 2 referees 3 seasons ago.

The penalty was 6 points deduction which they didn't appeal since they had a big advantage in the Liga.

But they were outsmarted hehehehhe

I never got the straight of the whole affair. Juve were DEFINITELY bribing people and intimidating referees.

Same with Fiorentina and Parma (or whoever the other two were)

AC, on the other hand, I never heard what exactly they were accused of, or for - the were "implicated" in something but nothing was proved?. Wierd. Anyone care to shed light on this?

Also, I was sure I heard that the whole affair came out because Inter were tapping their opponents phonelines! Don't think i imagined that! Italy's a wierd place.

It seems that 2 years ago the Uefa regulations had no ban for teams condemned for corruption in their local league.

Now it has!
