[Archived] Are You Really A Rovers "fan"?

Recommended Posts

One thing that has really irritated me over the past few days is the number of "fans" who have said they will be sending their season tickets back should Fat Sam, McClaren, Osama Bin Laden, Garry Glitter etc get the Rovers job.

Now I particularly don't want any of the above, particularly Allardyce or McClaren, but Rovers is my club and through success or adversity I will support them. What I would like to propose is a register of those on here who say they will not be attending next season, unless conditions satisfactory to their support are met, and we can all have a look in August if you are true to your word or just shooting your mouths off.

If some of you guys had been in the trenches for us nearly a hundred years ago I dread to think what would have happened.

Anyone care to back their claim up? Just think what you could do with that cash and all those free Saturdays (stroke Monday, Tuesday nights or whenever games are played now!)

Well i will always be a rovers fan, simple as. I remember being in a pub when i was younger and this two bikers saw me with a rovers jersey on and they couldnt believe it (man utd fans) that anyone could support any other team apart from united and liverpool at that time (in ireland)

they were telling me how they were related to SAF(obviously i couldnt give a fiddlers fart) and that i would eventually change to be a united fan..........how wrong they were!!!

Well my ole Grandad was in the trenches and he's sent me a sign indicating he would have sent his ST back if BFS got the job

You're confusing 2 issues here. I have no intention of withdrawing my financial support from rovers. My season ticket is bought and paid for. what i cannot be forced to do is attend matches if allardyce is named as manager, therefore I have no intention of doing so. If he is appointed and remains as manager for this and next season then I have a real problem because I won't want to deliberately waste my money, but nor will I wish to stop giving Rovers my financial support. Here's hoping it doesn't come to that.

you'd be dead, quite probably. not a huge survival rate for anyone in there. i lost 8/10 great uncles, anyway.

and no I don't attend often. and know many who don't either, many of whom copped on to the fact that clubs collectively sought to exploit the "(insert team name here) til I die" mentality by increasing prices 225% in ten years.

bite me

I wouldn't stop being a fan but I would be very, very bitterly disappointed if one of those two got the job.

And if one of them is appointed and it happens that we are actually more successful than we have been recently, then what would your view be?

Ask most fans and they will trade attractive football for trophies. Hughes' team in the early days wasn't exactly that entertaining, just effective.

Exactly, if Allardyce or anyone else is appointed, and he has us riding high round about Christmas, all those who sent their season tickets back and who are sat at home watching Gardeners World on TV will really have had the last laugh won't they?

If we're up the top of the table I'd still not attend although I would be able to if I wanted. I've told you so many times. My ticket's not going back - it's just staying in the drawer. Look in the end it's up to individuals to do what they feel is right. If you want to carry on going that's fine. If we don't want to that should be equally fine with you, especially since I don't expect anything back from the club.

Well obviously it will change if they manage something incredible like that, but the point of the whole thing is that I really don't think they will.

Obviously it's up to you if you don't want to attend under a specific manager before a ball is kicked but I do find it a very strange point of view.

If someone took over and we were "doing a Derby" and/or the level of entertainment was dire and you made a conscious decision not to waste any more of your Saturday afternoons or midweek evenings at that point, I could find that a lot easier to understand.

Can I have it then? I'm proper skint.

;)

On a more serious note, here's an interesting article from a man who is such a fan of Man City that he's dumping them altogether. I'd say his reasoning and thoughts on why are fair and sound, even though his problem is more with the owner (not that he's happy with his new 'Red' manager'), the people who may take umbridge with our new choice of manager may empathise with him.

Where've you been? Not in my case if it's Allardyce for reasons I won't repeat here but are well documented elsewhere.

How pathetic are you?? I'm not Fat Sams number one fan either but it wont stop me going. At least its not Brian Kidd taking over then we would have something to worry about. Now please pick up your toys off the floor, place them back in your cot and come to pick your dummy up which has just hit me in my face!

At least the appointment of Allardyce would sort out the real fans of the club from the glory hunters who attach themselves to personalities. I wonder how some of those who are so against Allardyce would have coped with the club's fortunes in the early 1970s. Of course, they would have all cleared off to neighbouring Burnley who played a more creative game than the kick and rush found at Third Division Ewood Park. It was amazing how the thousands who deserted the club suddenly became true blue again when Jack, Kenny and Ray arrived.

Whoever is appointed manager the real supporters will get behind him and the team and those who don't - well they don't really matter in the long run.

So you believe to be a fan you have to back the manager? You can't just back the club and the players?

So people who have put thousands of pounds into the club over many years are suddenly "glory hunters" or not proper fans because they cannot stand the scumbag that is Sam Allardyce?

I was never a glory hunter. i started supporting rovers just before Kidd was appointed, stuck with them through the 2 years it took to get back to the Premiership, and have continued to support them since, attending all home games I can and as many away as I can afford. I work hard at persuading the children I teach that Rovers are a team worth supporting because I happen to believe that. That does not mean that I have to turn up every week to watch a team managed by Allardyce. I happen to believe that we deserve better.
