Pinch Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Yeah, I was sure Michael Bradley was playing in a def. mid. role when the US played Canada last year (and got a red card). For what it's worth wikipedia Bradley mentions that he plays a def. role for the nats and attacking mid for Herenveen. I haven't seen a lot of Bradley, but as long as he wasn't our "big" signing intended to bolster the midfield - I'd be happy to see him play the minutes that Reid might otherwise. Then again, maybe I'm just underwhelmed with the way Reid has looked since coming back from injury.

Craigman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Orr on his way to Rovers ? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...nt-striker.html

What a fine ending. He would be a helpful addition it must be said, but Landon Donovan would be a better option for who we are looking to replace.

Thanks Rebel, it's always nice to open up old wounds, ha. Yeah, that tackle at 9:13 by Bocanegra...wow! I couldn't remember who put that tackle on DeGuzman. Sorry guys...this thread has gone from Aston Villa - Fulham - Bumley - now we're talkin' CONCACAF?! Nicko, we need some news!
Fife Rover Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 have you never agreed to a contract and then learned that it was the wrong move? people should not be locked to a business just because a piece of paper says so. when bentley signed he was what? 21 years old? he was young, got his firstt real big contract and thought he was on the top of the world. now he have (at least in his eyes) developed to be the main force at rovers, and want to try himself at a higher level. I understand him 100%. you HAVE to be cynical with these things. And don't the players have well paid agents to scrutinize all aspects of a contract for them, and then to advise the player on what is best for his interests? Oh but wait a minute......that's what agents are supposed to do isn't it. But is it what they actually do? Or do these "advisors" act rather more in their own interests than those of their clients? Hmmmmm! now there's the million £ question, eh?
Hi Mack Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I don't know about Orr, is he any good? Looked ok at Bristol!= a big no no! signings like this could begin the big downfall!
they_think_its_all_rover Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I saw him a couple of times for Brizzle against Hull, one of those at Wembley (although he had to go off with a broken cheekbone)... he's a very committed player, gives 110%, I'll give him that... solid, no nonsense type of player. Also likes to nod the odd goal in too... weather he can make the step up though... who knows!?!
Baggio Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Would he be welcome at Blackburn after his stint in prison or is it just Barton that nobody wants?
Presty On Tour Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Just read his wiki and it just says "relating to an incident outside the popular Bristol nightclub Romeo Browns." So probably fighting then. Has he learned from his mistakes, he has also played for the Dingles! On the plus side he was named in the PFA's Championship team of the season 2007/08.
mode_m Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Samba (man city) and Bentley (???) out - Orr and ? in to fill their positions.
Blueandwhitemike Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Wit Orr's reported price of 350k, and Emerton's overall good performances at right back, Orr just might be the perfect cheap back up. Much better than Reid playing there... probably. Also, I think/hope Reid will come back after his first proper full pre season in a while, and be the player of old, not last season's disappointing version. Hopefully Ince won't ask him to play out of position at RB or defensive midfielder, he was much better when given a bit more freedom.
neophox Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 We should get Fredrik Stoor from Rosenborg instead. A much better right back than Orr.
neophox Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Nicko: any news on rovers targets after the meeting between Ince and Williams yesterday?
krislu Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 We should get Fredrik Stoor from Rosenborg instead. A much better right back than Orr. First, you dont know anything about this orr dude, second Stoor is crap.
Parsonblue Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Nicko, a question or two about the backroom staff. Do you know anything about the coaching methods that Archie Knox employs? Is he more of the old school approach or is he into the modern technology that Hughes and his staff were so keen on? Also do you know the background of Karl Robinson? I believe he was at Liverpool Academy and joined MK Dons at some stage last season. Finally, have you heard any whispers with regard to any other arrivals from the MK Dons backroom staff. I assume the fitness guy will be coming as he and Ince go back a long time.
hawkiiz Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 First, you dont know anything about this orr dude, second Stoor is crap. you do NOT want stoor at rovers. let fulham get him. like i said earlier, if we are to buy from the norwegian league, get Alanzinho or Tarik Elyounoussi. take a look: (alanzinho) http://youtube.com/watch?v=f_Mf_fgTGFk http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozrysnqaMmI Tarik (nevermind the quality of the clipping) These boys are at least equal, if not better than Gamst was when we first got him.
krislu Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 These boys are at least equal, if not better than Gamst was when we first got him. Just one correction Alanzinho is miles, and mean MILES, better than Gamst will ever be. If we are going to buy players from the norwegian league its either the two "hawkiiz" mention, or Veigar Páll Gunnarsson who is a fantastic player with "fabregas-like vision"...
vintageadidas Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Orr is JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH for us. Do you see West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Spurs and so on sniffing round him or anyone of that calibre?...................NO!
Majiball Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Well the whole Roque story seems to be gathering pace now, can see Arsenal getting shot of Adey now! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/ju...rleague.arsenal I'd be loath to see him go. Does anyone reckon McGeady at Celtic might be interested I think he has potential, and did well in last years champions league. He prefers a more central role has pace and can create, but would he be another ferguson?
Exiledfan Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Orr has had a decent season in the Championship, but I don't see him being top-half Prem standard.
Majiball Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Nicko, a question or two about the backroom staff. Do you know anything about the coaching methods that Archie Knox employs? I assume the fitness guy will be coming as he and Ince go back a long time. I read that when Knox was at Bolton some players felt his methods where dated, I'm surprised we are getting a new fitness guru I am told Roden is highly thought off. I had hoped Ince would get in someone European, to increase our appeal in this area, I know Knox has been there and bought the T-shirt, but was still expecting a foreigner to fill this role.
gumboots Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I read that when Knox was at Bolton some players felt his methods where dated, I'm surprised we are getting a new fitness guru I am told Roden is highly thought off. Surely the point of Knox is the premiership experience that is otherwise lacking in Ince's staff. Ince and others will provide the more modern thinking.
Majiball Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Surely the point of Knox is the premiership experience that is otherwise lacking in Ince's staff. Ince and others will provide the more modern thinking. Trouble is his prem experience is quite limited, bolton as Sammy's assistant was hardly a resounding sucess, he was at everton with Smith, which was OK, and united with Ferguson till 1991. So all in all its not as experienced as I'd hoped for, he was with Smith again at Rangers but SPL is not the EPL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archie_Knox Again I know its the Wiki but it still shows where he's been and what he achieved.
joey_big_nose Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Looks like Cruz to Arsenal has legs now. Nicko has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in him as a replacement. I am very suprised because he is nothing like Adebayor as a player. Well maybe the previously unflappable Wenger is actually panicking a bit. The one silver lining is that with 30m coming in for Adebayor we could justify a 20m price tag for Cruz which would hopefully scare them, and anyone else, off. Wth any luck Cruz might not be completely up for a move considering his time at Bayern and prefer another more stable year here. If he goes I would give him very close to a 0% chance of being in the first team at Arsenal at the start of the 2009/2010 season. a) he needs games to keep fitness and although undoubtably a brilliant player in his own way he just isn't outstanding enough in any department which suits the way Arsenal play.
