Orr has had a decent season in the Championship, but I don't see him being top-half Prem standard.

If we get him I am sure it will be as back up and for the future. We do need cover a RB, we have no "proper" RB (although I rate Emerton there), but I am sure we would only take on Orr with another player on top.

Although I suppose it is worth noting that both nelsen and Samba when they rocked up seemed like distinctly squad as opposed to first team material....

Finally, have you heard any whispers with regard to any other arrivals from the MK Dons backroom staff. I assume the fitness guy will be coming as he and Ince go back a long time.

'Go back a long tome'? So what? We are dealing with wildly expensive pedigree livestock here... not 4th Div knacker meat!

btw Has he any qualifications to his name?

Orr is JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH for us.

Do you see West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Spurs and so on sniffing round him or anyone of that calibre?...................NO!

A point made on a related subject but on another thread. :brfc:

Alex Ferguson knows when to let players and staff leave the club. They have either nothing more to offer United, not good enough or coming to the end of their careers.

A few examples would be Yorke, Cole, Smith, Curtis, Richardson, Kidd and so on.

Hence he let Knox go in 1991. I am not happy about him at all. Even Megson let him go. Yes, he may want his own staff but Tony managed to stay on through many a manager. Quality shows through!

Well the whole Roque story seems to be gathering pace now, can see Arsenal getting shot of Adey now!

I'd be loath to see him go.

Does anyone reckon McGeady at Celtic might be interested I think he has potential, and did well in last years champions league. He prefers a more central role has pace and can create, but would he be another ferguson?

Definately not. Celtic would want top dollar for this very poor man's Ronaldo. Highly rated by Celtic fan's only and I dont remember him particularly standing out in the CL. He's the footballing equivalent of a flat track bully, throwing in step overs against the likes of St Mirren and Falkirk whilst disappearing in Eurpoe and in Old Firm clashes. One to avoid.

Could be worse .... £30m for Adebayor, Ronaldo possibly leaving MU for £70m. Both sales setting the standard and the pair of em in a bidding war for our centre forward. The Walker trust would be mad to sell cheap.

Yeah, that David Beckham went onto do nothing in Spain.

Cole was useless when he helped keep us up and win a Cup and then have a couple decent seasons with us, Fulham and City.

Ince did nothing after he left United.

Staam was crap.

RvN hasn't scored a goal since he left.

Ferguson knows when it is right to get rid of a player because it is in the club's best interest, that doesn't mean that they have nothing to offer for other clubs, particularly smaller teams, it just means that Old Trafford is moving on.

Would he be welcome at Blackburn after his stint in prison or is it just Barton that nobody wants?

I suppose that's a fair enough point. (...and Orr is a Mickey Mouser) However, I saw him interviewed during the play offs and he came accross as quite intelligent and humble. I dont think he's been in bother since his spell inside so he appears to have learnt his lesson.

Not really something that can be said of your lad is it?

Yeah, that David Beckham went onto do nothing in Spain. HE WENT TO PLAY FOR REAL MADRID, THAT HELPS DOESNT IT. HE IS A GLOBAL MARKETING TOOL. HE DID NOT PLAY WELL FOR THEM. HE OFFERED THEM REVENUE.

Cole was useless when he helped keep us up and win a Cup and then have a couple decent seasons with us, Fulham and City. HE WAS PANTS A FULHAM AND CITY. STEAD CONTRIBUTED MORE AND IT IS A TEAM GAME. I THINK BRAD CONTRIBUTED MORE TO US WINNING THE CUP TO BE HONEST.

Ince did nothing after he left United. DID HE?

Staam was crap. CORRECT.

RvN hasn't scored a goal since he left. GOOD PLAYER BUT IN AN AWESOME TEAM.

TARGETS - Bradley Orr is an interesting one. There is a strong Scouse connection at the club now and they will know him from the Liverpool area where he was a top kid. Strong right back, may be a target. However I know that there are several others being studied on video - and probably in the flesh - before one is signed. I will name one of those on Sunday.

STAFF - Archie Knox was liked at Bolton, he knows the game and is respected. He may be similar to Ray Mathias in some ways, but with the additional benefit of Premier League experience last season. I think there are a few more to come - and leave - shortly. The fitness guy Roden is wanted by Sparky at Man City, the chief scout Mike Rigg may go too. I would presume Paul Ince has his own people in mind.

ROQUE - We shall know soon enough, although it is not certain that he is Arsenal's first choice if Adebayor is sold.

BENTLEY - Yawn...but I think things will kick off soon.

Looks like Cruz to Arsenal has legs now. Nicko has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in him as a replacement.

The one silver lining is that with 30m coming in for Adebayor we could justify a 20m price tag for Cruz which would hopefully scare them, and anyone else, off.

Wth any luck Cruz might not be completely up for a move considering his time at Bayern and prefer another more stable year here.

Alternatively as I have said many times this is the way forward for BRFC. We'll never win anything major and we'll never generate enough money through the turnstiles etc but if we can milk the big 4 cash cows by finding cheap talents like RSC, Bentley, Warnock and Samba and selling for top dollar whilst reinvesting in new ones (and don't worry they ARE out there) then we can be a huge success story. More than one way to skin a cat and we can regularly tap into and receive Champions league money without ever finishing in the top 4! :rover:

Unfortunately the only man capable of unearthing talent in that way has just gone for 5 measly bloody million.

How much input did this guy have into our transfers in or is chief scout just responsible for Academy kids?

If he wants more of our staff, surely City will have to cough up more money? If those two are integral to our club (and I imagine a chief scout is pretty integral) then the club should demand another large payout. Maybe it doesn't work that way, but it should.

:rover: can't understand anyone being upset by knox joining,he's been there got the t-shirt.incey needs someone with premier experince to give him the odd word in the ear,he has chose knox -good enough for me.as for orr,if hughes was intrested we would be wetting ourselves over another bargain.the season has yet to begin, close season has yet to begin, and we are asking questions off our manager :brfcsmilie:

There are times 'drog when I wonder if you used to spend time at Brockhall. The only way we can be a huge success story is if we win something major or make the Champions League.:rolleyes:

Regarding backroom staff.

Is there a likelihood of Friedel becoming the new player/goalkeeper coach? If not who is it going to be?

Also who was the fitness coach who left last season for Man Utd (I can't remember).

Rigg certainly played a part in Samba coming in - he set up the trial. However the agent also pushed that one very hard and probably takes the lion's share of the credit.

I don't know whether he is responsible/to blame for the Rigters move.

Roque was signed by the manager after a few calls and because he knew he must be good to play for Bayern Munich.

I can't think of too many more you could put down to Rigg. He was scouting around Europe a lot last season but not many have arrived...

Nicko, is there anything in these reports that Newcastle have held talks with a prospective new owner? Is Ashley activley looking to sell or just iopen to offer, and are the prices mentioned correct? Can he really expect top make a profit?!

EVERY club is for sale...it's just a matter of who is daft enough to pay what the owners want.

Ashley would sell if the price was right, but I can't see anyone buying at £420 million.

But he could disappear as quickly as he arrived.

With football clubs being taken over by non-fans and businessmen then this can happen all of the time.
