Eddie Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Well our bugdet is supposed to be at least 10 million, so technically it is.

alexanders Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 He is not that good and he's also a little bit light for the premiership.
Pinch Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I think we should let them decide who they want first...and I don't think they are at that stage yet. There are probably four or five options for both the right back position and the attacking midfield position. I think you should give us the four or five options now - thereby giving us time to lobby/facebook petition/influence media/place bets ... I'm kidding BTW.
Eddie Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 He is not that good and he's also a little bit light for the premiership. He's certainly 7 million good and certainly a very good player. Whether or not he'd make it in the premiership we'll never know unless he comes here.
EwoodGlory Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Aren't Newcastle and Everton in for Aimar? The Benfica deal has been on hold since last week, as he would prefer a move to the premier league.

joey_big_nose Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Pablo Aimar is on his way to Benfica for around 7m. It was rumored he was holding out for a move to the premiership with a few clubs interested in his services but none have come in and made an offer as yet. We all know we need an attacking central midfielder and this fella has quality. Is 7m in our budget? Without wishing to put a dampner on things there is now way we could use Aimar as an AM in a 442. He is tiny! Much like Arteta at Everton we would either need to play 5 in midfield or stick him on the wing. Whilst I have time for the fact we need an "attacking" central midfielder, it can only really be someone who can contribute defensively as well.
thenodrog Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Slightly less prestigious than the University of Life. Close ties with the School of Hard Knocks. Hmmmm the 'University of Fife' has a nice ring to it, or is there already one of those? Anyway whatever it's not a bad idea ... if only to keep him off the football threads for a bit.
daren Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I think that the toughness of these South American players is underestimated - whatever about the league is spain being (relatively) less physical than the English league, any South American internationals will have played in the Copa America. Having watched a few of those games (especially Argentina - Brazil) the players get kicked from one end of the park to the other. Their skill and agility is used to take them out of the way of outrageous fouls and heavy handed tactics. And they still manage to play well. I have no doubts that he'd be able to take the rough and tumble although it might take some adjustment. Aimar IS small, but with a strong defensive midfielder could very well work in a 4-4-2 My problems with him is that you might question his hunger, or whether he'd see Blackburn as a suitable club. And lastly, whether the pace that the premiership is played at might not suit his kind of game. Edit: Anyone else think that Mattias looks like Chris de Burgh? OH NO!
hawkiiz Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Just one correction Alanzinho is miles, and mean MILES, better than Gamst will ever be. If we are going to buy players from the norwegian league its either the two "hawkiiz" mention, or Veigar Páll Gunnarsson who is a fantastic player with "fabregas-like vision"... absolutely tarik im not that sure about but he is at least the same quality sa gamst was. i think rovers were linked with alanzinho earlier this summer and i actually hope we go get him. what a player. tiny, but can open up most teams i think.

In the norwegian premiership yes. In the premiership? He'd probably struggle. I mean he's talented, by all means, but the average defender in the premiership is miles and miles better than the average norwegian defender. I'd say that Tarik has more on offer than Gamst though. More technically gifted, good movement, good finishing ability and has a knack to be where the action is infront of goal.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Yes, indeed. But Kewell will sign in all probability...as it said in the always-reliable Daily Mirror today. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...89520-20630991/ Have you moved from the Mail to the Mirror? or from the People?

REMEMBER THAT MIKEL ALSO PLAYD IN NORWAY AND ALANSINHO IS THE SAME CALIBRE AS HE
doctorryan Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 No it isn't. For a club of our background playing in europe regularly whilst staying in the black or even turning a significant profit would be one hell of a huge success story imo. You must have a banner in your home somewhere celebrating all the times we've finished 6th.

Tarik was linked with tottenham and chelsea earlier. i think rovers were scouting them both aswell. hopefully they'll take another look and grab one of them.
roverfanuk Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Nicko, just heard from a friend that we might be showing interest in Turkish left midfielder Arda Turan? Could you check that one out please...?

Not much would beat Pedersen's attacking game at the moment, but when we consider replacements we do need to consider the defensive side. He works hard and allows Warnock to get forward. If we get a purely attack minded individual down the left it will upset that balance. Maybe Warnock could adapt to being more defensive but I don't think it is a given. Horses for courses I suppose. If we signe a workhorse to partner Vogel in central mdifield the wingers could probably afford to be pushed up more, but if we sign a Aimar then it will be important that we maintain the defensive side on the wings. We need to keep the balance.
thenodrog Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 We need to keep the balance. There's lots of talk about who we need / buy etc but REM we don't even know what formation Ince will play. It makes a huge difference to the personell that we will need.
Shevchenko Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 REMEMBER THAT MIKEL ALSO PLAYD IN NORWAY AND ALANSINHO IS THE SAME CALIBRE AS HE Yeah...no. They are very different players. Both are midfielders yes, but their skillset and style is vastly different. Mikel was also an important part of the Nigerian international sides, U - 21's and what not, at the time he came to Norway. Has Alanzinho been similarly involved internationally for Brazil?
Manchester Blue Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I can;t believe Alanzinho is an actual player!! I had to do a google to satisfy my curiosity. It sounds like something out of that rubbish Brazilian name generator email that kept doing the rounds and was barely funny once.

There are 13 clubs in the FA that have won each of the 3 "major" English club competitions at least once. There are 9 clubs in the FA that have won 10 or more major trophies including UEFA competitions. There are 7 clubs on both lists. Name them, and then come back to me with this we're a small town, boo-hoo bulls**t. The goal is the same every year: go as far as you can in each cup and go as high as you can in the table, with 4th being the lowest (for now) position worth feeling good about. Those who believe 5th place is something to aspire to should bugger off and go help form LancashireU.
