I can;t believe Alanzinho is an actual player!! I had to do a google to satisfy my curiosity. It sounds like something out of that rubbish Brazilian name generator email that kept doing the rounds and was barely funny once.

It's got to be an elaborate wind up. Next we'll be linked with Colindinho or Garyrinncha.

There are 13 clubs in the FA that have won each of the 3 "major" English club competitions at least once. There are 9 clubs in the FA that have won 10 or more major trophies including UEFA competitions. There are 7 clubs on both lists. Name them, and then come back to me with this we're a small town, boo-hoo bulls**t. The goal is the same every year: go as far as you can in each cup and go as high as you can in the table, with 4th being the lowest (for now) position worth feeling good about. Those who believe 5th place is something to aspire to should bugger off and go help form LancashireU.

Heroic.

Though a big pile of sh*te all the same.

I really struggle to see how someone can have such little insight. How the hell do our achievements in the 1920s have ANY bearing on our current state? I bet those Uruguayans will be pretty miffed not to have won the last World Cup.

Does the concept of money not mean anything to you?! I can't even believe I need to explain this to someone but here goes. The best teams have the best players. The best players require MONEY to buy them and to pay their wages. Similarly, the best managers will only really come if there's money available, both to them and in the way of transfers...unless we get lucky like we did with Hughes and catch them early in their career. There's four clubs currently occupying the top four places who have far more money than we could ever even dream of having. They have the resources to buy the best players in Europe. We don't, every so often we'll pull off a gem like RSC, Bentley or Samba but most of the time there'll be clubs offering better wages and more money.

It's not even those 4 clubs now. It's City, Everton, Spurs, Newcastle, Villa, Portsmouth and even Middlesbrough and Sunderland with much, much more money to spend than we can dream of right now.

I have a Queens Park Rangers supporting friend who last night told me that they were signing Jason Roberts and it was a done deal subject to a medical. Personally I'm not buying it mainly due to the fact he has a reputation for listening to rumours and stating them as fact but he is adamant about this one. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is it would seem like a very logical deal with QPR being one of the only teams that would have the finances for him (wages + fee etc) if what Nicko says is right about him not being cheap and he would be a very good signing for them. Care to shed any light on the situation nicko

haha. his real name is Alan Carlos Gomes da Costa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alanzinho

Of course he is a totally different player than mikel, but he is no doubt equally good, but in a different way.

He have not played for Brazil, but to be fair there is a huge difference between playing Nigeria and Brazil. anyway... he is a great player no matter how many caps hes got.. would not mind seeing him, or Tarik at all. although i agree about the balance aspect, there is always nice to have opportunities. right now we dont really have that on the left. Also Tarik can play striker.

You must have a banner in your home somewhere celebrating all the times we've finished 6th.

I was in the away end at White Hart Lane when we finished 6th and let me tell you it was fantastic!

You should read Ozzie's "nearly year" thread to see the club a lot of us grew up with and why so many of us would be delighted with finishing 6th again.

Newcastle United want £9 million for Milner.

Aston Villa willing to pay £7 million.

I don't see Rovers topping that...or going close to what the Toon want.

Nicko, is their any truth in us being interested in Turkish left midfielder Arda Turan?

Was told yesterday that Ince had been impressed by him during the Euro's and that he wanted to make him his primary signing this summer?

If thats true than we should be worried. Never liked managers who buy a player based on a few decent games in a international tournament.

Turan is good but very expensive. I heard it was the left winger Boral who they liked more.

There's lots of talk about who we need / buy etc but REM we don't even know what formation Ince will play. It makes a huge difference to the personell that we will need.

Exactly, until the first pre-season game its all pie in the sky, even then he may experiment. Still think he'll play a 451 type formation.

Quality player and someone who I think would improve our team. £4 million is a very fair price from Fulham.

Good player if true perhaps Nicko could shed some light on the subject, but he's not the attacking midfielder type I thought we would go for.

I'm off to church to pray for this!

7m is already too much for him. Surely we wouldn't go any higher...and surely they'll take 7?

Stevie Davis...good little passer of the ball but fades away over a season.

ANDY JOHNSON...Everton will sell at the right price and once they have a replacement...there will be a story on this in the People tomorrow...Rovers not mentioned anywhere in it.

JASON ROBERTS...If QPR have £3 million plus £28,000-a-week wages that could happen...but don't hold your breath.

DAVID BENTLEY...Very interesting new club keen on him...that will have to keep for 24 hours.

JAMES MILNER...To repeat...Villa offering 7, Newcastle wanting 9.

STEVE DAVIS...Sounds like an agent revving it up, but I would not dismiss it totally as a prospect.
