gumboots Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think it's quite good that a few players will be late back. it will force Ince to look more closely at the whole squad and give game time in the early friendlies to people that he may not have done had all the players been available. No Cruz or Roberts will mean that game time will be given to both Rigters and Derbyshire for example. If Roberts and Cruz were available from the start I think both those (especially Rigters) would probably end up with bit part sub roles. Bring on pre-season!! Not Rigters surely. He is poor, poor poor. Derbyshire I agree and he probably needs to start playing regularly since his operation to get his fitness and sharpness up to scratch but if rigters gets a start I'll begin to wonder if we should have gone for allardyce and you all know my opinion of him.

thenodrog Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Did JW even know for sure then? The whole badges thing caused issues and they were still interviewing. But with rovers always going British it was hardly a shock, Ince or Fat Sam.... I think the badges stuff was sorted by then wasn't it modes? Rem it was the weekend that the Laudrup interest was revealed when I preferred to think that we had the wherewithall to appoint him. Two weeks on and with all the info thats coming out it appears that we simply went for the cheapest option. btw Allardyce might just seem like Rinus Michells by easter.

American Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 If anyone spots a trialist at training today feel free to let me know. I think there is an interesting 'face' coming in - not a name but a good pedigree - so if anyone sees him or bumps into them at the local hotel... Maradonna's son again!?
thenodrog Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I actually asked you why a 37 year old keeper would move because of a goalkeeping coach, you didn't really answer that. Maybe they are best friends or something, I don't know, so it would really need for you to come up with a good reason why Friedel would have to follow a coach he has known for a relatively short period of his career. Good grief! Eddie! If I had asked then I'd maybe I'd have a reason to give you! For the umpteenth time the info did not come from me only via me so don't shoot the messanger! Capiche?

I've not seen enough of Rigters to make my mind up, and neither has Ince. If he turns out to be of no use then fine - but the only way to really test that is to see him in first team action. Better to do that during pre-season. plus I would like to see the guy given a chance and he won't get that when the entire squad are together. You never know, he might shock you
thenodrog Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 You never know, he might shock you Can't see it myself, but if he does suprise us it's just another reason to have nailed Hughes's feet firmly to the Ewood floor.

You never know, he might shock you I haven't seen a lot but when I have seen him in reserve games he has been probably the worst player on the pitch apart from 2 mins each game perhaps when he's looked to have potential. I'm all for giving chances but I think he's more than used his up so unless Ince really does find a revolutionary formation that allows for poor players to play for just a minute and make a positive difference to the game then I'd like to see him shipped out as soon as possible, even if it's only on loan.

But we can't afford to carry passengers and if you don't even show the required work ethic in reserve games when you know the boss is watching and you have to impress, then you don't deserve any more chances. When I've seen him he looks lazy, slow and unwilling to work for the team. there are other far more stand out players in the reserves who look like they want to grab a chance if given one.

When I've seen him he looks lazy, slow and unwilling to work for the team. there are other far more stand out players in the reserves who look like they want to grab a chance if given one. You have a point, but, if I had been taken from first team football to come to another country and then left in the reserves, given the odd appearance and refused the opportunity to go out on loan when it was clear I was getting no chance of playing first team football here - I think i'd have a rather lacklustre approach to reserve football as well. I'm not saying he shouldn't grit his teeth and do his best, but I can see why he wouldn't. If under the new management he doesn't improve in this area then I agree we should ship him out. But I'm willing to at least wait and see if he gets the chance first. Reserve football is a pointless marker for first team football. they play something like 10 games a season? A few reserve players have (by the reports we get) done very well last season - but how often did Hughes risk them? The argument for not doing so would be that you don't know how they'd cope with first team football and so why risk effecting the first team results? You have to take a chance and Hughes never did - so I can understand if some of our reserve players felt jaded by the situation. I just want to see everybody given a fair go under Ince - especially during pre-season. I fully expect them to as well, he wouldn't be much of a manager if he just ignored the squad and stuck with the previous managers views and opinions on the squad.
gumboots Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 As i said there are good reserve players I'd hope the manager would give a chance in the pre season games. there are even one or two who look like they might make it. rigters so far does not appear to be one. It's not like he's a young kid coming over here when you could understand him being a bit unsettled in a new country. My own kids have all gone abroad in far less supportive environments than he's in and at a younger age and thrived in what they were doing. He just doesn't look willing and I think that's what annoys me more than anything. didn't his going out on loan come from him and his agent as much as from rovers?
b12_simon Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Dont forget the Wally I disagree. I'd like to forget that he and that other stunt were ever linked to our club.

Rigters had a poor record prior to his U21 golden boot. Was it 5 in 61 at NAC Breda at 350K he was worth a punt. It doesn't matter what game your playing in reserves, U18's you do your best to impress.
nicko Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Burnley making signing number four as we speak...the Dutchman.

I think there is an interesting 'face' coming in - not a name but a good pedigree - so if anyone sees him or bumps into them at the local hotel... just back from my dip in the dunk, there has been a dutch guy there but i think he;s going to the other enf off the m65
socngill Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 just back from my dip in the dunk, there has been a dutch guy there but i think he;s going to the other enf off the m65 I think you should hook up the security cameras in that hotel to a feed on this site!! Don't our training sessions normally happen behind closed doors? I thought we had a policy of keeping the public out. Will be interesting to find out who the trialist is though.

den Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Specialist defensive coach appointment being mooted. Lot's of ins and outs at Ewood.
modes98 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Can't say that's not overdue. We just need a specialist corner coach now.
socngill Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Good news. I always thought football should be like rugby and have coaches specialised to certain positions. it allows the manager to have expertise around him to help with all aspects of coaching, training etc. Not overly bothered about the loss of Hodges to be honest.
waggy Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 listened to a guy on talksport sat night, and he reckoned santa cruz was arsenal no1 target if adebayor moves on.i reckon if bentley is sold, and arsenal do have a clause in his contract santa cruz fee may be very low.
