Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Manchester City's move for Brad Friedel, the Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper. If a transfer takes place, Blackburn would require a replacement and Tottenham would probably be willing to offer Paul Robinson as part of a deal to sign David Bentley, the Blackburn winger. To add to the complexity, Villa, who are vying to sign Bentley, have expressed interest in Robinson, but have yet to make an offer.

Wouldnt anyone else rather we looked for a pacey decent right midfielder abroad if we sell Bentley. Id be really disappointed if we only looked at Pennant and Lennon, their are allot better out there for the money!

Wonder how much of the money we get for Bentley will go to Arsenal, and then how much will be given back to Ince for transfers.

Im hoping Ince gets around £25 million (£15 million for Bentley and original £10 million kitty). But im guessing about 20%-30% will go to Arsenal and Ince will end up with about £8 million of Bentley's money to respend...

Not seen anything in the news about this - last thing I heard Hughes had left Hodges behind. Where have they gone and what has been said?

This tread is far too long to trawl back through.

The only mentions the LT made of it were:

"The Rovers boss was dealt a setback after losing reserve team manager Glyn Hodges and fitness coach Damien Roden."

Then later on in the article:

After exiting Rovers it is believed that Hodges and Roden will join the exodus  of staff following former Blackburn  boss Hughes to Manchester City."

apparently Spurs are ready to offer Robinson and Bent for Bentley, maybe a bit of cash too. says also that they have a few differnet make weight combinations that they will put towards us including Anthony Gardner.

Also read we're in for Vukcevic and Ricardo Osorio.

Would be very happy with Osorio, could get him for about 1.5million and he's a top right back. Article i read said he is looking like being Ince's first signing and might be a done deal by the end of the week

sorry if this is old news

I may be able to see Bent because, you can never have to much strike force but, why would we want Robinson. Unless this is future planning. Robinson will only be 29 in October but, he won't want to sit on the bench. Unless Brad is on the go. Seems silly!

No wait this all makes sense unless.....i'm Homer Simpson. Doooh!!!

Could it be this?

(Bentley to Spurs for Robinson + Bent + Cash!)

Remind me again. Why do we want Robinson when we have Brad.

The same Robinson who cant handle set pieces!

I for one would be very angry if we 'gave away' one of our better players, for someone who we don't need.

Wouldnt mind too much if we got Bent, but only if we got a decent amount of cash with him.

I have been behind Ince totally since his appointment, but if he gets rid of our best goalkeeper (ever!) and replaces him with someone like Robinson, then he has lost my respect and interest quite frankly...

Edit: Just been thinking. I wonder if Ince is looking at the sell on clause, and thinking it better value for money if we exchange for players?

Trust me though, out of all the players we could be offered by Spurs, Robinson isnt the guy we need.

If we get Robinson and Bent from Spurs, thats going to add 2 players to positions we already have decent players in, and would mean we had to spend what little we had remaining on a new RM, CM and RB...

My worst nightmare is for us to sell Friedel to Man City, bring in Robinson and Bent in exchange for Bentley, and then be forced into buying a poor RB, Keith Andrews and a cheap RM option...

The Bent + Cash deal could start to roll if Adebeyor leaves the Emirates ...

There's another rumour floating around that Arsenal have turned their attentions on landing Huntelaar if Adebayor decides to leave which would be good news for us I guess.

spurs is a team we are supposed to compete with. i hardly see the positive for us if we give them our best player, and we get two of their rejects. :angry2:

why dont we offer roberts and Peter for gareth bale or something.

Why would a swap be utter rubbish philipl?if we get 8mill + Bent + another player ie lennon, then we get in an extra striker, another right sided midfielder without spending any money, apart from wages.with the money, you could pick up davis or sum attacking midfielder and a right back as wel.that sounds good to me,altho i stil think that when you sell a quality player.that you replace him, with quality.anyway philipl,i get where you coming from, because many teams prefer straight cash deals.

I think the Bentley business is about to kick off in a big way.

Full story - as I know it - in tomorrow's Daily Mirror.

Any bits cut out or needing explained will be provided after it lands on your doorstep.

Can;t find it in the mirror online! Do we have to buy the actual paper? :(

Swap deals are far too complicated to happen in real life any longer.

Even deals presented as swaps usually are two separate deals and there have been very few deals recently involving Prem clubs where two players have gone in opposite directions at roughly the same time.

So swap stories are usually complete rubbish.
